1993 Bmw 850ci Base Coupe 2-door 5.0l on 2040-cars
Bristol, Rhode Island, United States
This 850 car is an absolute gem!!! Clean 2 owner car fax and never in any accidents. There aren't many cars
from the early 90s that could compete with the 850 in terms of performance or
style, and the 850 still looks contemporary. The long hood and short deck
emphasize the big V12 under the hood, and with folding headlights, the
shark-like profile definitely looks the part of the king of the street. With a
cost approaching six figures in 1993, you got paint that was far beyond basic
assembly line and it was definitely worth it, because this coupe still looks
fantastic. The exterior is diamond
black with gray leather. BMW's reputation for being performance-oriented
doesn't come by accident, and the sporting buckets are both supportive and
all-day comfortable, designed to hammer from Paris to Munich at triple-digit
speeds. Everything was standard, including power seats, windows, and locks,
climate control, a trip computer, and a powerful stereo that still impresses
today, it's a joy to run it through the gears. MSRP in 1993 was 87,250.
Everything on this car works and even came equipped with tear gas sensors (which
is pretty cool). I have all documents pertaining to the service that was
performed to the vehicle. The suspension was changed to Bilstein coils and
struts along with Eibach springs for better handling, computer chip was changed
to push 390 horsepower and the exhaust was customized for a deeper tone. Other
than that the vehicle is 100% stock. Below is a list of just
a few services performed on the 850:
Full engine tune, replaced fuel filter, new cabin filter, new spark plugs, valve adjustment, new 02 sensors, 2 new batteries, transmission fluid flush, valve cover replacement (gaskets), oil pan replaced, 2 new batteries and 4 brand new Dunlap tires. You will not find an 850 in better condition than my 1993 850ci. I pride myself on keeping up with all maintenance and preserving the condition of this car because of how special of a vehicle it is. This car is 100% in pristine condition both mechanically and cosmetically. |

BMW Concept X5 eDrive plug-in hybrid headed to Frankfurt
Thu, 22 Aug 2013With six confirmed public debuts scheduled for the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show, BMW is definitely going to have its hands full. While we've already driven models like the 4 Series and the i3, one of the more interesting introductions is a "concept" plug-in hybrid version of the new F15 BMW X5 called the BMW Concept X5 eDrive.
As the second concept to wear the eDrive name, this X5 combines a 95-horsepower electric motor with a turbocharged four-cylinder engine to balance performance and efficiency. On the green side of things, BMW says that the eDrive system allows the X5 to reach speeds of 75 miles per hour and a range of 19 miles (although we're guessing not at the same time) under electric power only, to go with fuel consumption of about 62 miles per gallon US (3.8 liters per 100 kilometers). For performance, this plug-in can still accelerate from 0-60 in under seven seconds, and drivers can select from three PHEV modes: one that operates the system automatically, an all-electric mode and a Save Battery mode to preserve the battery's current state of charge.
Aside from the obvious plug port on the left front fender, the X5 eDrive is differentiated from the 2014 X5 with slightly restyled front and rear fascias, subtle blue accents tying in with the BMW i line and lightweight, aero-tuned 21-inch alloy wheels. There is no definitive word on whether the Concept X5 eDrive will make it to production, but judging by BMW's recent commitment to plug-in vehicles, we wouldn't be surprised to see an X5 PHEV on the roads within the next couple of years. We'll see the Concept X5 in just a few weeks in Frankfurt, but until then, scroll down for the official press release.
2013 BMW X1
Tue, 23 Apr 2013A Tasty Bit Of Old School For The New School
Against the backdrop of fervent hand-wringing from brand purists, BMW is on the cusp of finally offering front-wheel-drive vehicles. While that's a shock to the constitution, many are pointing to the company's fine-handling Mini offerings as an article of faith that it can get this drivetrain paradigm shift right. That may be true, but there's an even more important lesson that Mini has taught the decision-makers in Munich: how to make real money on small cars.
Before Mini came along, BMW - along with seemingly every other premium European automaker - never really figured out how to coax big dollars out of American wallets without developing cars that had large footprints, at least those other than sports cars. While the automaker really got rolling in America on the strength of little bantamweights like the 2002, it veered away from small cars sometime in the '80s. BMW subsequently crashed and burned with the cut-and-shut 318ti built off its E36 3 Series and, good as it is, the 1 Series hasn't given the company meaty volume or profits, either. Among other brands, the Audi A3 has never rung up big numbers, and the less said about the painful sales figures of the Volvo C30, the better. But Mini has beat the odds, blazing a more affordable and evidently compelling trail. As of late, the company's Countryman softroader has been a massive hit worldwide. No surprise then that BMW has reconsidered bringing over its smallest softroader, the X1, to the US.
2014 BMW Z4 offers minor refinements with a majorly orange wrapper
Mon, 14 Jan 2013The redesigned BMW Z4 was rolled out onto the show floor at the Detroit Auto Show, with the example in question being an sDrive35is variant, with the just-less-than-screaming Hyper Orange Package. The exclusive colorway includes the metallic orange paintjob, as well as trim-specific seats, stitching and accents for the interior. More importantly, the 35is driveline means that you'll find a high-output version of the turbocharged 3.0-liter N54 engine, here outputting 335 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque, and a 7-speed DCT gearbox.
Two slightly less ferociously powered versions of the Z4 will be available for the new model year, too (both familiar). The Z4 sDrive35i is good for 300 hp and 300 lb-ft, while the still-potent sDrive28i features a 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder making 240 hp and 260 lb-ft.
You'll fine some more details about the 2014 BMW Z4 in our original news story about the model here, or by scrolling down to read the full BMW press release.
