Summer's coming up and life is short.... drive a convertible!

This is a physician-owned, immaculate, always-garaged, great-running (fast!), loaded Alpine white BMW 650i convertible with black leather seats and black top. Automatic transmission. Cold weather package (heated seats). Back-up sensor option makes for easy parking. 19" BMW sport alloy wheel upgrade (MUCH nicer than standard 6-series wheels- see insert pic). Bluetooth. 8.8" Navigation Screen w/ iDrive.  Lit side door panels with BMW logo.  Owner's manual and BMW-flashlight included.  Only aftermarket upgrade was $500 tasteful carbon fiber mirror backings (see photo) which can be removed to reveal perfect condition factory white mirrors.  Impeccable body and interior, with only minor imperfections as detailed above and in as much as possible in close-up photos. NEVER even seen the smallest of accidents. No active codes / check-engine lights. CLEAN Carfax showing its clean title (screen shots attached, and I can email full PDF to interested parties).

First owner paid $90k + tax and used it four years from it's mid-'06 production, putting 70k SoCal highway miles on it.  Then my wife and I purchased it for $41k in 2010 and babied it with 7k mi per year since = 98k total. The sport tires are nearly new- changed 7k mi ago at cost of $1200 (have records). Rear brakes 50% remaining and front brakes 70% remaining.

We are expecting our first baby next month and will need an SUV for all the stuff that having a new addition entails! So rather than get low-balled at a dealership, I figured it'd be painless enough to try a quick week-long run on Ebay and see if a few hours labor can get me a much fairer price from an interested local individual, cutting out the middleman for both of us.  No trades though, we will be buying our SUV new.

*** THE RESERVE PRICE ON THIS BEAUTIFUL, LOADED CAR IS WAY LESS THAN IT'S KBB VALUE ***

Last thing, regarding me the current owner. I am a physician (google me: Shanon Peter) and have a good reputation to maintain.  I've not used Ebay Motors before, but am putting it in writing right here that I will go above and beyond the usual Ebay Motors policies to stand by this car. By that I mean: IF you are the winning bidder, please come to my Culver City house at a time we both agree on within three days of the auction's end, take the car for a test drive with me, and if you'd like, take it for inspection to any local mechanic or BMW dealer for an inspection (at your cost) or for free to Superperformance (my specialist BMW technicians, three miles away in Beverly Hills).  If, after this, you feel that anything has been misrepresented or your mechanic finds a flaw not listed, I will gladly cancel the sale.

Happy bidding!  Contact me with any questions: shanon.peter@post.harvard.edu.

BMW i5 could be a new kind of i PHEV

Tue, Apr 14 2015

Just this month BMW North America CEO Ludwig Willisch made a point of saying "Not any time soon" to AutoblogGreen's question about the arrival of a BMW i5 - and that came after he clarified, in case we didn't know it, that no such model exists. But the rumors of its eventual appearance were swelled again by a report in Autobild that sticks more details and numbers on what could be the next offering in for the i brand. In February, Car magazine laid the i5 out as having a 245-horsepower four-cylinder engine in front, assisted by a 204-hp e-motor in the bow and a 90-hp e-motor in the stern, for about 544 total horsepower. Autobild claims the gas engine will have 218 hp, the front e-motor will have 150 hp and the rear will have 272 hp, for roughly 640 total horsepower. Where the two reports agree is that it - maybe called i5, maybe i7 - will be based on the China-market long-wheelbase 5 Series platform, it will incorporate cues from both the 7 Series and 6 Series Gran Coupe, and it will not be cheap: 100,000 euros ($105,686 US) is the estimate. The i8 starts at 130,000 euros in Germany. Weight for the i5 is figured to be around 3,300 pounds. Green Car Reports says what's important about the i5's drivetrain is that it's being maximized for electric running. Its evolution of the company's eDrive mechanicals will crank the ICE over only above 36 miles per hour, and even then, only in cases of "maximum power demand." Electric-only driving would offer a range of 78 miles, company officials suggesting that it could remain in that mode for "fully two-thirds of its usage cycle." Whenever a vehicle like this arrives, that is, which Autobild says could be in 2019.

Official pics of BMW M235i surface ahead of coupe's debut

Thu, 24 Oct 2013

BMW isn't supposed to debut the 2 Series until tomorrow, according to Carscoops, but that hasn't stopped these photos of the 1 Series Coupe replacement from leaking onto the web. First picked up by a BMW 2 Series enthusiast site, the photos eventually found their way around the web, and complement the spy images we showed you of the uncovered 2 Series from almost six months ago.
This particular car is the M235i, and will serve as the range-topping 2 Series. As the number "35" is affixed to this car's tail, there's no question that the engine powering this example is BMW's turbocharged, 3.0-liter six-cylinder. As we reported earlier this month, power for the M235i should sit around 320 horsepower, blessing the 3,240-pound coupe with a 4.8-second sprint to 60 miles per hour when equipped with an eight-speed automatic (a six-speed manual is also available, but drops the time down to an even five seconds).
While this isn't a full-bore M car like the 1 Series M Coupe, it has been touched by the company's in-house tuning division, which means it sports a racier body kit, blacked out grilles and M-labeled interior items, like the steering wheel.

Rinspeed Budii Concept is a rolling smorgasbord of future tech [w/video]

Wed, Mar 4 2015

There's a strange dichotomy going on inside the Rinspeed Budii Concept. Actually, there's a slew of seemingly mismatched ideas, but that seems par for the course when it comes to the mind of Frank Rinderknecht, no? For instance, there's a manual-wind Manero PowerReserve watch embedded in the cabin, which seems quaint, considering the high-tech nature of the car's design and intent. A high-resolution camera apparently "recognizes" when the watch is getting low on power, and a robotic arm "uses ingenious motions to wind the movement" of the watch. Seriously. The aforementioned robotic arm is a seven-axis unit that can "reach out" to the driver or passenger so that they can take over driving duties from the autonomous car. In this way, the occupants can choose to put their lives under the control of the "cognitive and intuitive autopilot" provided by a telescoping laser scanner and a high-res camera that map the car's surroundings, or to make their own "ethical" driving decisions. We kind of assume that refers to the current autonomous-driving question of the times: whether or not to save the lives inside the car our outside of it in case of emergency. If all of that sounds suitably high-tech, you should also know that the "feel-good lounge atmosphere" of the interior features removable plexiglass work surfaces inside, folding blinds for privacy that are custom printed with user-selectable designs, air outlets with ambient lighting, a "wellness shower in the headliner" (whatever that means) and a center console with – you guessed it – cup holders. The platform on which all of this is based is the all-electric BMW i3 hatchback. If all of that sounds intriguing, we suggest you read all about it in the press release below and take it all in via the included image galleries. Rinspeed "Budii" redefines human-machine interaction Reach out to robots The vision of autonomous driving will soon become reality and will fundamentally change the interaction of man and automobiles. While the research centers of the automotive industry are still feverishly working on the technical solutions, progressive thinkers such as the Swiss idea factory Rinspeed are already giving concrete thought to how automated private transport will transform the car and the man-machine system. Besides fundamental conceptual changes, this will also have to involve issues of ethics and society. In the past, the robots in the factories of this world merely assembled cars for people.
