1979 Bmw 633csi Base Coupe 2-door 3.2l on 2040-cars
Ivins, Utah, United States
Manufactured from 1979 through 1984, the top-of-the-line BMW 6 series received a fuel-injected engine for the first time. It developed 197 horsepower in a 2.8 liter straight 6 cylinder power plant with ZF steering box (with power assist) and independent four-wheel coil spring suspension. This car has the 4-speed synchronized transmission. Most historical service receipts and repair orders come with the car in addition to the original owner's manual and trunk-loaded tool kit. I purchased this fine teutonic ultimate driving machine from its original owner last year. He purchased the car new in New England in late 1978 -- in fact it was one of the first 633's imported to North America -- and he used it there and shipped it to Florida when he spent winters there. In 35 years he put only approximately 3,400 miles a year on the odometer. Always well-maintained and garaged, only when he was well into his seventies did his wife prevail upon him to part with his "baby". Out of his Florida garage it came to live with me in dry Southern Utah. Fond of these top-of-the-line Beemers, I have had considerable long-term experience with this model. I owned a '79 in '79, bought it new and kept it for 10 years until I traded it for an '88 BMW 635. They are fantastic grand touring cars! Being a big fan of these underrated cars, I had this car mechanically gone through to correct some of its old age ailments and get the running quality up to par. Not a lot to do but change the fluids, detail the cosmetics, sort the electricals, charge the A/C system and get some cranky switches working to make this beauty sing again on the highway and turn heads everywhere you drive it. It's amazing how the beautiful design holds up and attracts attention from those too young to remember it was a major flagship German car of the highest order in it's day. Now comes the time to let it go as my collection has grown and I must thin the herd for storage purposes. I have nearly $11,000 into this automobile and price guides indicate that market value of one that is "average" is in the $6,000 to $9,000 range. I will let the eBay community decide its fate because this BMW will be sold at NO RESERVE to the highest bidder. The current marketplace will either establish its true value or someone will get a steal of a deal. The car is not for sale elsewhere so bid with confidence to WIN this listing. I will not accept bids from zero feedback bidders. If you have any qualms about the car's condition, PLEASE either inspect it yourself or hire a qualified appraiser or local mechanic to look at the car in person prior to the close of bidding. THIS CAR IS SOLD "AS IS" AND WITHOUT A WARRANTY OF ANY KIND. |

Watch the trailer for Locke, a movie that takes place entirely in BMW's X5
Fri, 21 Feb 2014It's no surprise that driving can be incredibly stressful. You're basically trapped in a metal box, and until fairly recently, your ability to communicate with the outside world beyond the toot of a horn or a rolled-down window was all but nonexistent. Locke, a new film starring actor Tom Hardy (best known for his role as Bane in the Batman movie Dark Knight Rises), capitalizes on that feeling of isolation and stress by setting the entire movie in a BMW X5.
Locke is written and directed by Steven Knight, author of Eastern Promises, and the trailer shows Hardy's character being put under increasingly intense emotional stress as he drives along in his Bimmer. We don't know much more than that, as the 90-second trailer really doesn't give away much.
The film premiered at last year's Venice Film Festival, and reviews are available that tell more about the story, but we don't believe in spoilers. It's poised to hit theaters in the UK on April 18 and the US on April 25. The trailer reminds us of a far more artistic take on Steven Spielberg's 1971 movie, Duel and has our interest piqued. Scroll down to watch the trailer, but consider yourself warned, there's a brief moment of profanity.
BMW's new strategy: Electric everything
Mon, Sep 12 2016Mercedes isn't the only car maker determined to beat Tesla before it gets huge. Sources speaking to German business daily Handelsblatt claim that BMW is in the midst of planning an executive shuffle that will also include a big shift in its electric vehicle strategy. While the company would still offer ground-up EV designs like the i3, the new strategy would greenlight electric versions of some of BMW's most important vehicles, including the 3-series sedan, X4 crossover, and iconic Mini. If the leak is accurate, management is likely to approve the change at the end of September. We've asked BMW for its take on the report, although it declined to comment to Handelsblatt. It wouldn't be shocking to see the Munich crew change tack, though. While Tesla has received hundreds of thousands of Model 3 pre-orders, i3 sales dropped in 2016 – the upscale (if oddly-shaped) EV just isn't as hot as it once was. If BMW electrifies some of its most popular cars, you wouldn't have to choose between a super-efficient, eco-friendly EV and the familiar designs of the brand's mainstream driving machines. The story originally appeared on Engadget, your guide to this connected life.Related Video: Featured Gallery Mini Vision Next 100 Concept View 38 Photos Green BMW MINI Electric Hybrid engadget
BMW raises pricing on many models
Wed, 02 Oct 2013Buyers interested in a new BMW will start paying a bit more for their Ultimate Driving Machines, beginning yesterday. The Munich, Germany-based manufacturer has announced price hikes across nearly its entire range, covering model years 2013 and 2014, that will sting higher-end customers in particular.
Price increases are enough to get any consumer riled up, but the incremental nature of BMW's increase makes it a bit easier to swallow. All 1 Series and remaining 3 Series Convertibles (including the M3 Convertible) will see a $300 increase in price. All current-generation F30 3 Series, 5 Series GT and X3 crossovers will get their price bumped by $200. $500 increases are coming for the 6 Series range (not including the M6), while the diminutive X1 gets just a $100 increase.
Cars on the losing end of the price hikes include the newest M cars, the M5 and M6 Coupe, Convertible and Gran Coupe, which are being bumped $2,000. BMW is adding $1,000 to the sticker of all Z4s and the entire X6 range, including the X6M.
