I'm selling this car only because a new job takes me to Wisconsin where I will need an all-wheel drive vehicle. I have owned this car since 2008 and 26,000 miles and had intended to drive it until the wheels fall off. I searched high and low, ultimately flying to Philadelphia to get this vehicle. Specific reasons I purchased it:
- It's the last 5 Series BMW with a spare tire in the trunk. What this means is no need for loud and expensive run flat tires. - It's a 545i complete with a 325HP engine with boatloads of torque but also gets 27+ MPG on the highway and rear wheel drive (The ultimate driving machine) - It's a manual transmission with the sports package, so the 'fun to drive' factor is maximized. -Space Grey Exterior with Grey Leather interior. I can fit four grown men and four sets of golf clubs or my wife along with the three kids and baggage for a long weekend. It's an incredibly versatile car. Full options: -Leather Seating -18" Alloy Wheels -Headlamp washers -Moonroof -Logic 7 Premium Sound with subwoofers -Full power (seats, locks, mirrors, windows) -Satellite Radio -Dynamic Stability Control traction control -BMW rubber floor mats (like new original carpet mats included also) -Navigation (with updated 2012 Map) -Keyless entry -Heated seats -Park distance control -Owners manual and two keys included Custom Options: - Custom installed discreet Escort radar detector mount with the mute button hidden in the ashtray. -Aux input connector in the ashtray -1 1/4" trailer hitch (used for bike trailer only) 105k mostly highway miles from commuting to work. I drive the car daily so mileage will increase. I also have an OEM BMW roof mounted rack with two bike trays that I will include ($450 value) The car has never been smoked in and is in excellent condition. Brakes first replaced at 70k and have at least 25k remaining life. Battery was replaced in 2010 and tensioner pulley was replaced this summer. High performance Yokohama all season tires replaced recently and have 70% tread remaining. I have followed the 'old school' maintenance plan with oil changes at 2x the interval as recommended by BMW. Non smoker. Exterior is in excellent condition with only minor road markings that are well below what would be expected. Come see for yourself....everyone is shocked when they realize the car is 9 years old. Clean title in hand. I am pricing this at $10,500, which is $1,000 below the Kelley Blue Book market value but also am throwing in the roof rack and radar detector so effectively this is nearly $1,750 below market value. |

Car subscription services: A slow, expensive start — but the potential is huge
Wed, Dec 26 2018Americans are used to paying for subscriptions — to magazines and cable television, for instance — but experience shows they'll cancel when the price of admission gets too high, or there are more tempting alternatives. Cord cutters ditched nearly 1.5 million pay-TV subscriptions in 2017, according to a survey by Leichtman Research Group. Cable TV started out cheap with basic offerings, and then got expensive. The auto industry's subscription offerings are new, but they're starting out costly, and not price-competitive with traditional leasing. The upside is that they take the hassle out of car ownership for busy people by letting the service take care of maintenance, insurance, licensing and taxes. And they give consumers choice, often allowing relatively painless switches between different cars in the automakers' lineup. Subscription services also point the way toward an ownership-free auto experience, and offer an easy transition to a potential world where ride- and car-sharing will be dominant. Subscriptions are here to stay, but consumers may take a while to "get" them. Lincoln's subscription service for lightly used 2015 to 2017 models, offered through the Ford-owned Canvas beginning this year, got off to a slow start. Many early subscribers canceled. Last month, Cadillac announced it would " temporarily pause" its $1,800-per-month Book subscription service for "adjustments" as of December 1. According to the Wall Street Journal, "Snags with the back-end technology used to support the service made some customer-service functions tedious and time-consuming, adding costs for the company." The challenge for automakers is to come up with a strategy that offers consumers a compelling, affordable option to regular ownership, and one that can also make a profit. I think they'll find that sweet spot, but they're not there yet. Jack Nerad, former executive editorial director at Kelley Blue Book and author of " The Complete Idiot's Guide to Buying or Leasing a Car," points out that "A lot of people expected that subscriptions would be very valuable for people who wanted inexpensive transportation, but the reality is quite the opposite. Subscriptions are offering more choices for the wealthy.
Xcar celebrates 100-year anniversary with Model T tribute
Fri, Jan 9 2015Never mind the fact that XCar hasn't been making videos for the last 100 years, the British duo have gone all silent-moving-pictures in order to make their centenary case for the Ford Model T, a car that was already seven years old in 1915. It's not a review, but a mostly sepia-tinged look at the car that started the mass-market adventure by taking that biblical advice to be fruitful and multiply and populate the Earth abundantly. Since it looks like Xcar is celebrating some kind of milestone, we've also included another video below of the first Xcar review we could find, covering the BMW M1, from the much more recent past - circa 2012.
BMW-Toyota sports car heading towards Tokyo debut
Mon, 20 May 2013Earlier this year, BMW and Toyota confirmed a four-part joint venture mostly focusing on increasing improving vehicle efficiency using fuel cells, lightweight materials and better battery technology. Also tucked into the announcement was a "feasibility study" for a shared platform to underpin a future midsize "sports vehicle."
In terms of the latter, it seems that things have stepped up from the feasibility stage to the conceptual stage, as Motor Trend reports we could see a pair of new sports car concepts debut later this year in at the Tokyo Motor Show. There isn't much information about the new program, but the article suggests the sports cars could be all-wheel drive hybrids, with electric motors powering the front wheels and a gas engine powering the rear wheels. While a partnership between Toyota and BMW might not lend itself to a catchy portmanteau like "Toyobaru," here's hoping it will bear fruit that is as exciting as the ones produced by the Toyota/Subaru tie up.
