2005 BMW 545i loaded with every option available.

I bought this car 4 years ago after a diligent search.  My requirements were:  6 speed manual, CPO, history with NO Idrive faults, no wrecks, immaculate condition, all options and Titanium Grey with grey leather.  I would love to keep it and drive it forever but sadly I am having knee problems and it is uncomfortable to drive this beast in town.

Besides routine maintenance, a water pump and an idler pulley replacement this has been a very low maintenance vehicle for almost 70,000 miles I have owned it.  Most of my miles are highway.
Nice simple description why this car is awesome:
  • After market CORSA Exhaust.  Does not drone at all on the highway and sounds unbelievable when you get on it.  At normal driving is not to loud....but just enough to know that there is something different.
  • Brand new Continental tires.  Less than 500 miles.  $900!!!
  • Factory short throw shit linkage and new ZHP shit weighted shift knob.  Shifts like a brand new car!
  • Paint and interior look unbelievable for the age of the car.  Please look at all of the pictures
  • Non-smoker, no eating and drinking rule in the car and no pets ever rode in it.
  • Sports package, navigation, logic 7 sound.  Loaded!
  • There is no way you car for the money than this one.
  • I am a perfectionist.  The first person that sees this car will buy it.
  • Crazy acceleration and handling with a wonderful ride.
  • Amazing enough it gets great gas mileage.  My record is 29 MPG on the highway!!!
  • $57,000 original MSRP!!!
  • Check out the review from car and driver if you just discovered this awesome car.
So much good but just a little bad:
  • It has been in a very minor accident that may or may not show up on car fax.  The day after I bought the car I had another car brush against the driver side of the car lightly.  There was no frame damage and I actually drove the car back 500+ miles to get home.  The total repair was $1,700.  I have a copy of the repair estimate if you would like to review it.  I took it to the local Mercedes dealership that has the best body shop in town.  The paint matches perfectly, there is no overspray or tape lines.  You would have to be a used car dealership manager or body shop manager to see that it has ever been in an accident.
  • The power steering has a very slow seep.  Every once in a while you will get an active steering fault in the winter or when it is really cold out.  It rarely does it when it is warm.  If the fault will clear when you eventually stop and restart the car.  You should be able to have this fixed at 100% for $500-$700.   (Think about free brand new tires that you did not pay for!)  :)
This is an awesome car and is up on its service and in fantastic condition.  Please call me if you have any questions.  865  three eight 4 7 four 2 5

Happy Bidding!!!

Car companies may need to start curbing model proliferation

Mon, 17 Nov 2014

Looking at the current automotive landscape, especially from German makers, you quickly get the impression that less definitely isn't more. BMW alone offers its 3 Series platform in practically every segment possible, including the regular sedan and 4 Series Gran Coupe, which would seem to be direct competitors. Porsche might be the winner, though, with 20 different variants of the 911 listed for sale on its US website. However, some of this model madness might be reaching an end as companies begin cutting back spending or shifting money to other priorities.
According to Yahoo Finance, the offerings from the German automakers are up 25 percent over the past three years to over 200 models in Europe. The peak is expected to come around 2018 at 230 separate vehicles, according to consulting company PwC.
Amazingly, BMW, which is among the poster children for this model explosion, might be changing its tune. "I'm sure there will be points in the future where we look at certain cars and say, 'Maybe we need to think differently now,'" said head of sales Ian Robertson in an interview, according to Yahoo Finance. The statement certainly sounds shocking coming from a company rumored to have 23 front-wheel-drive vehicles all using a single platform on the way.

Thanks to smaller engines, vehicle dependability falls for first time in 16 years

Fri, Feb 14 2014

As automakers have made engines smaller and smaller to improve fuel economy, problems in those vehicles have gotten bigger and bigger. That's the synopsis of a J.D. Power vehicle-dependability study, which found that dependability dropped for the first time in 16 years, largely because the proliferation of four-cylinder engines is causing the vehicles to be less reliable. Specifically, the number of problems per 100 vehicles (or what J.D. Power calls PP100) during the past 12 months for 2011 model-year vehicles rose six percent from the year-earlier figures for 2010 model-year cars. Singling out four-cylinder vehicles revealed about a 10-percent increase in problems during the past year. This issues largely related to engine hesitation, rough transmission shifting and lack of power, signaling the inability of vehicle makers to iron out some of the problems in their smaller engines as they strove for better fuel economy. Six- and five-cylinder engines proved far more reliable. Among car brands, BMW's Mini sub-brand came out as least reliable, with 185 problems per 100 vehicles during the past year. Toyota's Lexus badge was easily the most reliable, with just 68 problems per 100 vehicles. Coming in second place was Mercedes-Benz. The overall average was 133. Check out J.D. Power's press release below. J.D. Power Reports: Increased Engine and Transmission Problems Contribute to Decline in Vehicle Dependability for The First Time in More Than 15 Years General Motors Company Receives Eight Segment Awards, While Toyota Motor Corporation Garners Seven and Honda Motor Company Earns Six WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif.: o Owners of 3-year-old vehicles (2011 model year) report more problems than did owners of 3-year-old vehicles last year, according to the J.D. Power 2014 U.S. Vehicle Dependability StudySM (VDS) released today. The study, now in its 25th year, examines problems experienced during the past 12 months by original owners of 2011 model-year vehicles. Overall dependability is determined by the number of problems experienced per 100 vehicles (PP100), with a lower score reflecting higher quality. The study finds that overall vehicle dependability averages 133 PP100, a 6 percent increase in problems from 126 PP100 in 2013. This marks the first time since the 1998 study that the average number of problems has increased. "Until this year, we have seen a continual improvement in vehicle dependability," said David Sargent, vice president of global automotive at J.D.

Alpina Edition 50 models boast 204-mph top speed, company's most-powerful V8 ever

Fri, Mar 27 2015

The folks at Alpina bridge the gap between a full factory outfit and traditional tuners. It currently only builds around 1,700 cars a year, but you're not going to find any massive rear wings or garish paint from the company. Instead, the business has been perfecting how to make BMWs better for the last 50 years and has decided to celebrate with its most powerful road model yet. For the Edition 50 models, Alpina is crafting 50 sedans or wagons and 50 coupes for European buyers based around its B5 Bi-Turbo and the B6 Bi-Turbo, respectively. The real birthday present is the upgraded, twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 under the hood. It makes 591 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque, a bump of 59 hp and 52 lb-ft from the regular versions. The extra grunt comes thanks to additions like an optimized intake, water-cooled intercoolers near the turbos, lightweight pistons and a titanium exhaust. Alpina claims that these celebratory vehicles can get to 62 miles per hour in 4.2 seconds and a top speed of 204 miles per hour. Beyond just the major improvement in power, these special vehicles wear Alpina's more aggressive, though still understated body kit. They also ride on an updated version of the company's famous wheels that feature added side cuts on the multiple spokes to reduce weight. These exclusive cars are only available in Alpina's own shades of green and blue, plus a special color called Edition 50 Sepia from BMW Individual. There are also special logos on the seatbacks and center console to further promote the models' limited nature. Celebrating the brand's birthday in one of these high-speed vehicles retails for 86,850 pounds ($130,000) for buyers in the UK. NEW 204 MPH SUPERSALOON CELEBRATES 50 YEARS OF ALPINA ENGINEERING EXCELLENCE 26/03/15 Extensively revised V8 is the most powerful roadcar engine in the company's history Nottingham - Bespoke car manufacturer ALPINA will create 50 remarkable saloons (or estates) and 50 similar coupes to celebrate the company's half century this year. Based on the B5 Bi-Turbo and the B6 Bi-Turbo respectively, each vehicle will include hand-crafted Edition 50 body and trim features and a remarkable, heavily revised V8 that will propel the luxury five seater from 0-100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.2 seconds and on to a top speed of 204 mph. ALPINA's fifty year heritage includes the creation of some of Europe's most highly-regarded luxury performance road cars and iconic race cars including the legendary BMW 3.0 CSL.
