Condition
This car is in excellent condition. The interior and exterior are very nearly pristine. There is some very minor wear & tear: inside, the gear selector has a scratch on the knob, and there is some light scuffing in the areas where people put their feet, but otherwise, the luxurious leather interior is both extremely comfortable and in terrific condition. Further, no one has smoked in the car, so for non-smokers, you do not need to worry about that, or other lingering smells. Outside, the original silver coating virtually shines like new and the black trim is great shape; the front right bumper, though, has a few scratches. The car has two new tires and both windshield wipers have been replaced in the last 8 months. The windshield on the passenger side has a very small (millimeters long or 1/4 of a dime-sized) surface ding that has been there since the car was purchased from the original owner in 2012 and it has not grown; it has been looked at by The Glass Doctor (an AutoGlass Repair Company) as well as by Performance BMW in Chapel Hill, where the car has received up-to-date servicing and maintenance. In May 2014, the car received a clean bill of health at its last service appointment at Performance BMW in Chapel Hill, N.C.

Features
Luxurious leather seats (heated seats for both passenger and driver); window shades for the rear passenger windows; automatic sunroof. Built-in navigation system with voice activated phone; on-board computer that provides information about the car, for example, low tire pressure indicator.

History
The car was purchased from the original owner in 2012. It has been driven lightly, especially for its age. It has never been in an accident.

BMW 3 Series eDrive plug-in hybrid spotted in development

Thu, 06 Feb 2014

BMW has shown its commitment to the development of hybrid and electric powertrains in recent years, with vehicles in its ActiveHybrid range, electrics like its BMW ActiveE and range-extended EVs like the i3 and i8. Plug-in hybrid-electric vehicles are clearly top-of-mind for the German automaker. We saw spy shots of the PHEV BMW X5 eDrive prototypes about a year ago, and now our shooters have come through with a 3 Series-bodied version of the technology, as well.
In addition to the obvious "Hybrid Test Vehicle" designation you see on the bodysides of this 3er, we also note that a second 'fuel cap' - presumably hiding the electric charge point - is in evidence. It's a fairly safe assumption that this 3 Series is making use of the same turbocharged four-cylinder engine and electric motor configuration that the X5 eDrive used. In the case of the X5, that meant a top electric-only speed of 75 miles per hour, with a range of just under 20 miles, and 0-62 mph in under 7 seconds. With considerably lighter, compact sedan bodywork clothing the PHEV drivetrain, we'd guess that the 3 Series eDrive could improve on each of those numbers.

BMW discussing new plant with Mexican authorities

Mon, 19 Aug 2013

Drawn in by low wages and manufacturing costs, BMW could be the next automaker to set up a manufacturing facility in Mexico. Automotive News is reporting that the German automaker has had discussions with local Mexican governments regarding a possible assembly plant, but there is no word as to when a decision may come down. Last we heard, BMW was reportedly looking to build the 3 Series in Mexico.
A key determining factor for this new plant is a free-trade agreement between the US and Europe, which according to the article, would give BMW better "flexibility and cost structure" to open another plant in North America. In terms of luxury automakers, Audi is currently building a new plant in Mexico and Mercedes-Benz is considering opening one in conjunction with Nissan for the CLA-Class, and in the bigger picture, Honda and Mazda are also preparing to kick off vehicle production in Mexico.

2015 BMW M3 Sedan

Tue, 20 May 2014

BMW's all-new M3 Sedan is dynamically nearly identical to its two-door M4 Coupe sibling: a stopwatch reveals that both are sub-four-second cars to 60 miles per hour, a racetrack proves that the mechanical twins are equally as adept on a road course and a full afternoon of driving on public roads demonstrates that each possesses talented everyday adaptability.
Yet after driving both BMW models back-to-back over two full days in Portugal, it's clear there are a few noticeable differences, both objective and subjective, that don't require instrument testing to reveal. All it takes is a few hours behind the wheel of both cars to conclude that one is slightly more agile, and the other a bit more twitchy. One has better outward visibility, while its counterpart is unquestionably more convenient.
It is the little things - subtleties attained through seat-of-the-pants observations - that eventually allow me to choose a favorite.
