This vehicle was purchased new in NW Arkansas and traded hands a few times before I bought it in early 2012. I am needing something different at this time and so sadly it has to go.  I haven't owned it too terribly long, but I will do my best to honestly describe everything I know about the car.

It is a 2003 BMW 530i with the 5 speed manual transmission and Sport package. 110,xxx miles with clean Oklahoma title. Black exterior, with tan leather interior and dark wood accents. Cold air-conditioning, power windows, central lock, heated power driver and passenger seats, cruise control, AM/FM stereo, 6 Disc CD Changer, Bluetooth wireless business phone, 17 inch BMW sport wheels, automatic rear sunshade with roll up side shades, sunroof (no leaks), dual front and side air-bags. It gets fantastic fuel economy, without giving up the fun factor. I average between 20-23 mpg in town and around 29-31 on the highway.

The Good:

The car drives like a typical BMW. If you have driven one, you know what I am talking about. If not, you are missing out. They are exciting cars to drive, even just to and from work. The car drives extremely well for one of this age and mileage, and handles well. There are no unusual noises from the engine, brakes, suspension, ect. It is very quiet on the highway and tracks true. The paint was recently polished and waxed and shines quite well, however, there are a few minor chips. The interior is nice with no rips in the leather. No smoke or poopy smells.

I have recently done the following maintenance on the car, some of which is suggested by BMW as part of the 100k maintenance, some of which I chose to do just to keep it running and driving as well as possible. I am anal about keeping my vehicles in tip-top shape machanically and wanted to do the same with this one.

-Complete cooling system overhaul refilled with Evan's NPG Coolant (June '12)
-Water pump replaced (June '12)
-Timing belt replaced (June'12)
-Z3 Short throw shifter (July '12)
-New battery as of 1/10/13
-4 new tires as of 1/14/13
-Complete front suspension overhaul (December '12) using all new OEM parts which includes all control arms, links and new      struts (Have all new matching parts for the rear, however, not currently installed.)
-New ECS cross-drilled front brake rotors (~1500 miles, December '12) with Hawk ceramic pads (Also have all matching parts    for the rear, but currently not installed. Rear rotors are not cross-drilled.)
-Recent oil change with Mobil 1 synthetic (will have it done again prior to sale)
-Recent detail inside and out. (polish, wax, carpet shampooed)
-All exterior bulbs replaced. (January '12)

I have reciepts for most of the maintenance during my ownership, but have misplaced a few.

The Bad:

-There is a paint blemish on the top of the rear bumper, near the trunk. Not noticeable from 15-20 feet, but it is there.
-Typical of many E39 5 Series, some of the pixels on the radio display do not work. I have not yet replaced it, but have heard it    is a very simple fix with the right part.
-The front cupholder is broken. I will have it replaced prior to sale.
-Check engine light came on after the cooling system was replaced last summer. I had it checked by the local BMW dealership    and it shows code P1113 which I was told is the code for the coolant level sensor. After my research, I found that this check      engine code is a result of the type coolant used after the maintenance. I am far from being an expert, but I found that cooling    system failures are common to the 5 Series around the 100k mark due to the higher pressures of the BMW system. To ensure    that this did not happen, I replaced all components of the cooling system with OEM parts along with adding Evan's NPG          coolant, which has a much higher boiling point than typical coolant. This allows the system to run with zero pressure,                significantly reducing the chance of a failure. The vehicle has no issues as a result of the coolant change other than the CEL      being on. If it bothers you, the part can be had from Turner Motorsports for $28.95, or from any BMW dealership, however,      I have not checked their price.

Overall, I personally believe that it is a very good car that should last a long time. I wish I could keep it, but I need to move on. I have tried my best to decribe everything I can think about, as honestly as I can.  If you have questions about anything I missed, feel free to contact me and I will be happy to answer those. Thanks for looking!

The car is also for sale locally, and I reserve the right to end the auction early.

Updated with better pictures.

Cars we're thankful we drove in 2019

Thu, Nov 28 2019

We drove a lot of cars in 2019, and there's still a month to go. We drove them in our home office in Michigan, at our remote offices in Seattle, Portland, Ore., and Columbus, Ohio, and throughout the globe on myriad press launches. We could count them, but hey, that seems boastful.  Instead, we want to be thankful. Not only for the opportunity to do this wonderful task some might describe as a "job," but for the new, shiny cars that brighten our days (and most hopefully yours). We asked our fellow editors which car they were most thankful to drive in 2019 ... here are our answers. 2019 Hyundai Veloster N Performance Senior Editor Alex Kierstein Every once in a while a car comes along that changes the narrative on a company or its segment, and everyone scrambles to experience it for themselves. This year, for me, that car’s the Veloster N Performance, perhaps the most transformative car the companyÂ’s ever built. Everyone whoÂ’s driven it, here and elsewhere, says it captures all those intangibles that make great driving hatchbacks great. And IÂ’m thankful that I got a go in it before all of them left the fleet, because it does. It upends the segment long dominated by the GTI, a car that nails its brief. The N is rowdy and loud, sure, but it also has some of the most deftly tuned suspension IÂ’ve come across in a front driver. My advice: if youÂ’re in the market for something fun and unique, go test drive a Veloster N. I think youÂ’ll be thankful you did. 2019 Hyundai Veloster N View 47 Photos 2019 Audi E-Tron Senior Editor, Green, John Beltz Snyder IÂ’m pleased that I got to drive the Audi E-Tron. ThatÂ’s high praise for a year in which I also drove the stellar Jaguar I-Pace. The E-Tron, while not as sporty as the Jaguar, is excellently executed, and feels like a more refined, polished offering. ItÂ’s quick, whisper-quiet, comfortable, stylish inside and out, and incredibly sturdy. Some may lament that it doesnÂ’t do much to stand out from ICE vehicles, but I donÂ’t think it needs to. What it does need to do is win over the electro-skeptical, and I think Audi put its best foot forward with a crossover that can do just that, and more. So, yeah, not only am I thankful that I got to drive it, IÂ’m glad that itÂ’s compelling enough that itÂ’ll hopefully make potential customers feel the same. 2020 Audi E-Tron View 13 Photos 2013 Peugeot 508 West Coast Editor James Riswick My choice totally sucks.

More details emerge on hotter BMW i8S coming next year

Thu, Nov 27 2014

The BMW i8 recently won the Autoblog Technology of the Year award, and it's going to get even better. In October, Automobile magazine reported that BMW's i brand is working on an i8S that would be stiffer and more powerful, and celebrate the marque's centenary in 2016. At the time, one of two power unit combinations was suggested, either one of them good for more than 500 horsepower. Car magazine has added more info on the coupe said to be called Project M100, saying that in addition to being a birthday gift for BMW, it will also be a going-away statement to current chairman Norbert Reithofer, who is expected to retire in 2016 or 2017. It will also be so thoroughly reworked that there will be plenty of daylight between it and the standard i8: a more integrated carbon fiber and aluminum chassis, a wider range of materials used in the build, a larger luggage bay due to the omission of rear seats, a more aggressive suspension supporting heartier brakes and wider tires, and - perhaps - a different aero and ground-effects package to be visually different and make the most of the alterations. As for that power unit, Car says that the two options mentioned by Automobile are still under consideration, being either a 2.0-liter twin-turbo four-cylinder with 320 horsepower and a 204-hp electric motor, or a 3.0-liter straight six with 480 hp and an electric motor with 109 hp. Either choice gets an integrated starter motor good for another 27 hp, and a total torque number of roughly 520 pound-feet, 100 additional lb-ft than the current car. Word is that it will be shown for the centenary in 2016 then go on sale by the end of 2017.

Alex Zanardi back in the driver's seat with BMW

Tue, 21 Jan 2014

If there's ever been an inspirational story in the pantheon of motor racing history, surely it's that of Alessandro Zanardi. The Italian driver worked his way up the motor racing ladder, making it into Formula One and winning two CART championships for Chip Ganassi Racing back before the series re-merged into IndyCars. Tragedy struck in 2001 when he lost both his legs in a crash at the Lausitzring in Germany, but rather than accept his fate, Alex pushed on. Fitted with prosthetic limbs, he learned to drive a racing car with hand controls and got back in the driver's seat.
Zanardi drove for BMW in the European Touring Car Championship and then in the World Touring Car Championship that replaced it, landing on the podium several times despite his physical disadvantage. He left racing in 2009 to train for the Paralympics, winning two gold medals in London, but Alex apparently couldn't shake the racing bug. BMW modified one of its M3 DTM racers with hand controls for him to test later that year. And now he's returning to motor racing full time.
BMW has just announced that Zanardi will be driving a Z4 GT3 in the Blancpain Sprint Series, the successor to the FIA GT Series and short-distance counterpart to the Blancpain Endurance Series. The car has been modified with the hand controls the Bavarian automaker's racing department fitted to the aforementioned M3 DTM and will be fielded by the ROAL Motorsport team with which Alex challenged for the European Touring Car Championship last decade.
