Bmw 2002, 1975, Sahara, Factory Sunroof, 4spd, Recaros, Clean! on 2040-cars
Mancos, Colorado, United States
This auction is for a 1975 BMW 2002. Exterior color is Sahara (TAN), interior is tan.
Exterior; Body has an older paint re-spray which I would rate as average, 10+ years old. There are scratches and minor pits, two minor dents in trunk lid and hood. No major dents or prior accident damage that I can see anywhere. Car is very straight, with amazing fit lines for its age. All panels are original. I cannot say "rust free" as it has been driven in the elements for 38 years, but the only signs that I can see are the bottom of the left fender below the rocker trim and possibly the lower right of the nose. neither of these spots has perforation. Car has a factory (Golde) sunroof which functions as it should and has new seals. Windshield has minor scratches, but is original, and has a new seal. Remaining glass is very good. Door seals, trunk seal are good. Left headlight is cracked otherwise lights are very good and all function properly. Bumpers are very nice with very little oxidation, a few minor scratches, rubber trims are very good. Trunk is very clean, minor surface rust spots in spare tire well, wheel houses are solid. Jack and lug wrench are present, no tool roll. Trunk panel boards are average. Pan and frame rails are very straight and rust free. Minor surface rust, however never re-sprayed or undercoated. Car has spent its life in New Mexico/Colorado. Wheels are alloys, tires are good, 50% tread. Suspension/Brakes; Bilstein HD shocks all around with Eibach sport springs, lowers car about 2". Front brake pads and rotors within last 5000 mi, rear brakes 70%, braided stainless flex lines. Stock bars. New center steering link, outer tie rods very good, no boot tears. New front track rod bushings. Engine/Trans/Diff; Engine is not original to car, earlier block with 121 cylinder head. Two barrel Weber carb with electric choke. Exhaust header, not sure of brand. Exhaust system solid. All hoses very good. Runs cool. Smokes a bit on deceleration. No smog bits. Runs very well, appears that cyl head has been rebuilt as it has an 87 date cast. No bad noises. Recent tune, valve adjustment. Transmission is a four speed, shifts well, no noise or 2nd gear grinding. new trans mount. Driveshaft coupling (guibo) and center support bearing very good. Differential is an open 3:64. Halfshaft boots good. Interior; Dash has one crack, right side of instrument binnacle. Grant wood rimmed wheel. Headliner is good, some dirt and minor staining. Seats have slip on covers, fronts are e21 Recaros, gray cloth, minor wear spots. Rear seat has lost horsehair and upholstery is fair. Door panels have speakers but are otherwise nice. Originally appears to have had A/C but was gone when I purchased it. Regular non-A/C console. Carpet is faded and shows marks from the original A/C console. Heater box recently rebuilt, reinforced valve mount, works properly, fan works with no squeaks. This is a very straight, minor rust 2002. Very presentable driver with a sunroof. Nice suspension upgrades without being overboard. Runs, shifts and drives very well. Speedometers were atrocious, so exact mileage is unknown, but I think it is pretty close. Best sport sedans for 2022 and 2023
Thu, Nov 11 2021SUVs dominate the car industry at every size and price level, but some people still prefer the looks, and more importantly, the performance and comfort, of the traditional sedan. With a lower ride height, lighter weight and generally smaller size, they often are much more fun to drive, and can even be more comfortable. Sport sedans of course lean harder on the performance side of things, and are among the best options for sheer speed and fun, thanks to those inherent characteristics. We've rounded up the ones in the segment that do the sporty dance better than any others in 2024 to give you a handy guide when you're shopping for one of your own. You'll find a wide array of cars here including gas, electric and hybrid powertrains. They'll have manual and automatic transmissions and drive the front, rear or all four wheels. Technically a few hatchbacks have slipped in, but they're close enough in look and feel that we wanted to include them. And excluding them means you might miss out on some of the best-driving options available. You wouldn't want that, would you? Alfa Romeo Giulia Why it stands out: Punchy four-cylinder; astounding power from Quadrifoglio; light and nimble character; awesome shift paddlesCould be better: Clunky infotainment; sub-par switchgear Read our Alfa Romeo Giulia review We start this list with one of the most predictable inclusions: the Alfa Romeo Giulia. Yes, it's a stereotype that the Italian sport sedan is fun to drive, but the fact is, well, it is. The Giulia comes standard with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder making 280 horsepower, making it one of the most powerful four-cylinders in the segment. It's paired with a snappy and smooth eight-speed transmission and either rear-wheel or all-wheel drive. The engine is lively and torquey, if a little short of revs, and the chassis feels super-light. The steering is eager and the car jumps into corners. We also highly recommend getting a version with the enormous and superb aluminum paddle shifters that make clicking through gears much more entertaining. And on the topic of the interior, it's attractive, but the various switches and knobs feels a little cheap, and the infotainment system is clunky. Of course there's also the incredible Giulia Quadrifoglio at the high end. It gets a Ferrari-derived twin-turbo 2.9-liter V6 making 505 hp, and it's rear-wheel drive only.
BMW dishes on 'lightweight' 2014 M4
Mon, 15 Jul 2013BMW's M cars are not what we'd call featherweights. Sure, the big, bruising twin-turbocharged V8s deliver a lot of power, but the fact of the matter is that more weight often equates to less fun.
Which is why we're so excited over a recent sit-down the blokes at Top Gear had with BMW's product manager for small and medium cars, Matt Collins. The chat led to talk of the M3 Coupe replacing M4. Collins confirmed that, yes, the new M4 would be turbocharged. The new engine will also be a six-cylinder, which should make purists happy.
"What we'd like is more focus on lightweight engineering." -Matt Collins
BMW crushing ActiveE EVs, saving all batteries
Sat, May 24 2014It's unlikely to spark a movement and a movie, the way a certain EV1 did a decade ago, but anyone who's seen Who Killed The Electric Car? will likely cringe at this bit of news. Despite the fact that crushing and recycling old vehicles is standard operating procedure in the auto industry, when EVs are involved, it's always a touchy subject. The next phase will see "all of the lithium-ion batteries being repurposed for Battery Second Life research projects." So, what's the news? Well, the image you see above, which comes from the spotting of 16 smashed BMW ActiveE EVs on flatbed trailers on California Route 91 near Los Angeles, CA. EV advocate Chelsea Sexton told Green Car Reports, "It's all very deja vu, right down to [BMW's] DriveNow promotion as a don't-look-behind-the-curtain distraction – recall GM touting EV1s being donated to museums and universities? – and VINs spray painted on the sides, allowing former drivers to identify their own cars." BMW's take on this is that the ActiveEs were always meant to have a limited lifespan, and their time has come. As spokesman Dave Buchko tells AutoblogGreen, "The learning begun with the ActiveE will transition to the next phase with all of the lithium-ion batteries being repurposed for Battery Second Life research projects." (You can read his full statement below.) Originally, there were 700 ActiveEs leased to Electronauts (give or take). Yahoo! Autos points out that the ActiveEs were originally imported into the US as "pre-production" cars, which means they can't be sold, they can only be used for carsharing projects or re-leased. Eighty of those ActiveEs recently found a second life as vehicles in BMW's DriveNow carsharing fleet in San Francisco (bringing the total of ActiveEs in the program to 150) and "some have also been returned to Munich for additional research markets," Buchko said. The big picture here is that no one should be sad to see these cars go. Yes, they may have had some life left in them, but the rules say their time is done and everything is being done to crush responsibly in accordance with the law. Like Plug In Cars says, we're in a completely different era now than we were when GM crushed all those EV1s a decade ago. Instead of marking the end of a plug-in vehicle program, sending the ActiveEs away to be recycled is a symbol of the evolution and growth of BMW's i Project.
