 Classic 1976 BMW 2002
Here's a link for a video of the car http://youtu.be/ELciI86sUlI

Up for action is my 1976 BMW 2002. This BMW 2002 is a beautiful example of an 02 that's been tastefully redone. The car is an original California blue plate and last year was the first time in its history that it was registered outside of California. I purchased this car in the San Francisco Bay Area at the beginning of 2008 and have been restoring ever since. The car has been garaged, covered and babied during my ownership of it. I've put very little miles on it, mostly to and from my office on sunny days. It's a perfect example of an 02 centered to the great BMW tradition while including some tasteful upgrades.

EXTERIOR: The body is straight and in great shape (as you can see) the paint is in fantastic shape and has a gorgeous shade of red that has to be seen in person to be full appreciated. Very little dents or scratches on the body and virtually no signs of rust. The body was fully redone in 2010 and looks amazing. All rubber gaskets around windows have been replaced and are new. Shortened bumpers on both front/back.

INTERIOR: The interior was completely redone in 2012 including new seats, new back bench, new door panels (front and rear), new carpet and a beautiful gray headliner. New carpet installation in the trunk floor and trunk panels. The gray/black combination with the exterior red color make for a gorgeous combination.

MECHANICAL: The M10 engine has always ran beautifully.  New Weber 32/36 carb with an ITG air filter. New Bosch starter. New Thermostat. New fuel lines and fuel pump. New Clutch slave/master cylinder. New shifter, shifter coupling and shifter boot. Rebuilt shifter linkage. New ignition points. The actual mileage is unknown, currently the odometer lists 39,000 miles.

LOOKS GREAT WHAT'S WRONG WITH IT?: The known issues on the 02 are the sunroof is off slightly off it's track. This happened when the interior was done and fixable problem, just needs to be realigned. It needs a new seal around the sunroof OEM $50-$70. The heater fan is seized (somewhat common problem with the 02's) and can be freed up with some work. Small rust spot on the lower driver side door and in the spare tire holder in the trunk. There are a few imperfections in the paint close up.

EXTRA GOODIES: I have detailed every transaction or purchase made on the car since my ownership. I've collected and will pass on all my BMW 2002 books, manuals, diagrams etc. I have an extra set of taillights, the original air filter, and California SMOG motor. The car is fully equipped with all California SMOG equipment and passed in 2012. I have removed the SMOG pump currently but it would be fully passable in California as a 1976 car. Also, I will include a fully detailed original service manual used by BMW authorized dealerships in the service department for the BMW 2002's.

I've loved this car and have a passion for these 02's. There is no community better or more helpful than the BMW 2002 community. Let me know if you have any questions.

**Buyer is responsible for shipping. Car is sold as is where is and Sale is Final, No warranty, nor is any implied in the auction. Thank you so much and happy bidding!!!

Recharge Wrap-up: Nissan Leaf in Puerto Rico, BMW i3 REx tax-free in NJ, BC2BC cancelled [UPDATE]

Tue, Jul 22 2014

*UPDATE: Nissan has released a video of the Leaf in Puerto Rico, so we've embedded it below. Envia Systems will develop battery technology for United States Advanced Battery Consortium (USABC), a subsidiary of the United States Council for Automotive Research (USCAR). The $7.7 million contract, co-funded by the US Department of Energy (DOE), involves a 36-month development program focusing on high-energy cathode and anode material for lithium-ion batteries and pouch cells for electric vehicles. The goal, of course, is to create better energy storage for less money in an effort to make commercial EVs more efficient and affordable. For the DOE, this also equates to energy security, energy independence and national security. Read more in the press release at the bottom of the page. The US and China have agreed to work together more closely on EVs, energy and climate issues. US Secretary of Energy Ernest Moniz went to Beijing for the sixth US-China Strategic and Economic Dialogue to meet with leaders. While there, Moniz and Wu Xinxiong of China's National Energy Administration (NEA) signed a memorandum of understanding allowing the DOE and NEA to share information regarding oil reserves. The groups will meet yearly to learn more about how each other manages petroleum stockpiles and policy. Moniz also met with Minister Miao Wei of the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and signed an MOU to cooperate on electric vehicles and "related technologies," including the "inter-operability of electric vehicles." Read more at the Energy Department website. August's BC2BC all-electric vehicle rally, billed as the largest gathering of electric vehicles, has been cancelled. The event, which was to include a drive up the entire coast from Mexico to British Columbia with smaller events along the route, failed to bring in the needed sponsorship to hold the rally for its third year. A Facebook post from organizer Tony Williams also cited loss of venue and lack of support from automakers - "particularly Nissan and Tesla" - as hardships. The event was scheduled to take place August 9 through 17, with only battery electric vehicles invited to take part - no plug-in hybrids or range-extended vehicles. Williams said he'd only try a similar event in the future if sponsorship were provided up front. Read more at Green Car Reports. The Nissan Leaf will finally go on sale in Puerto Rico.

BMW maintenance plan no longer transferrable to 2nd owner

Tue, 12 Aug 2014

One of the best innovations in car buying in recent years is the rise of no-cost scheduled maintenance programs. Many people feel really anxious about taking their car in for service, and these deals help mitigate that somewhat. Obviously, it's not free for automakers to implement the offers, and now BMW is altering the way its four-year, 50,000-mile Maintenance Program works for some owners. "To keep such an offer sustainable we had to make a change," said Kenn Sparks, Manager of Business Communications at BMW North America, to Autoblog via email.
The original person to buy or lease the model isn't going to see any difference, but the program is no longer transferable to a second owner, unless that person is in the owners household. Those people include includes parents, siblings, grandparents and grandchildren, in addition to someone like a spouse or children. The original owner just has to advise BMW of new user. "The program change will affect 2nd owners and for them BMW is introducing an optional full-maintenance product that covers the vehicle up to 100,000 miles," said Sparks. BMW i8 fully revealed ahead of Frankfurt debut

Tue, 10 Sep 2013

It may be early in the morning here in the US, but in Germany, the first day of the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show is in full swing. BMW took advantage of the early start and showed off its long-awaited i8 plug-in hybrid sportscar, a two-plus-two, swan-wing-doored coupe, to the Frankfurt crowd.
We drove a BMW i8 prototype back in August, so many of the things we're reading today are clarifications on our initial suspicions or speculations. Underhood sits a 1.5-liter, turbocharged, three-cylinder engine. On its own, it churns out a respectable 231 horsepower and 236 pound-feet of torque, which is then channeled to the rear wheels by way of a six-speed automatic transmission. An electric motor, meanwhile, sends 131 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque through a two-speed automatic to the front wheels.
With all-wheel drive at its disposal, the total system power sits at 362 hp and 320 lb-ft of torque, and allows the i8 to scamper to 62 miles per hour in just 4.4 seconds. That excellent performance is offset by an estimated fuel economy figure of 94 miles per gallon, though, making this a fast and efficient vehicle. Charging is impressively fast on the i8, with a full charge coming from a 110-volt outlet in under four hours. A BMW Charging Station will trim the charge time down to 1.5 hours.
