I'm selling a very nice 1976 2002 that I built for my personal enjoyment. Unfortunately the car did not have any smog equipment and I have decided that it isn't worth the hassle of dealing with the smog headaches here in California. The car is not smog legal in California. Vehicle was painted in it's original chamonix color about two years ago. it was re-assembled with new front and rear window seals, door seals and trunk seal. The bumpers were tucked into the body and the side covers trimmed to fit for a clean, stock look. I installed two new side mirrors and gaskets, restored the wheels (E30 bottle caps) and installed new tires. I also painted the bottom rocker panels with black under coating. The interior was also cleaned up with professionally re-upholstered front seats. The dash is in good shape with a couple of minor cracks, center counsel is in good shape, gauges work, switches, wipers, blower, heater, windshield squirter nozzles, interior dome light all works correctly, door panels are very nice, rear seat has a couple of small tears but overall nice, headliner is in good shape. One key operates all locks including trunk. Has new stereo with CD and ipod port. Car looks really great and gets a lot of attention wherever I go.

Mechanically the car is exceptionally good. The engine is a fresh rebuild utilizing new wiseco forged pistons, new bearings, timing chain and guides, re-built rods, bearings, new oil pump, valve job etc. Installed a new clutch system with engine. Transmission is a standard four speed that shifts perfectly with a rebuilt shift mechanism. Differential is quiet, bearings are smooth and quiet, brakes stop straight and true (new front pads). Didn't need to do much with the suspension as it is in good shape. I added front and rear stress bars and relocated the battery to the trunk with a new interstate battery. Engine also has a new alternator and water pump, coolant hoses, fuel pump/filter/lines, good weber 32/36 carburetor, new cap/rotor/points.  All work was performed over the last 14 months and less than 1k miles have been driven since completion. I can't say enough about how nice this car runs and drives. It is important to emphasize that I did not perform a show quality "restoration" but built a very nice driver that turns heads and looks great. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have.

Playboy reveals its 2013 Cars of the Year

Thu, 20 Dec 2012

Vaunted men's magazine Playboy knows that its readers are nearly as interested in cars as they are in the female anatomy... sorry, we thought we could write that with a straight face. Anyway, the buff-book does occasionally fill some of its spreads with sexy metal, to accent all the rest of the sexiness.
To wit, the magazine has unveiled its feature on the 2013 Cars of the Year. Without giving us much in the way of criteria for the awards, nor a clear framing of the categories ("Responsible Ride" is a particularly challenging concept, especially when you consider that the Mazdaspeed3 was the winner), Playboy has nevertheless highlighted what we assume to be it's favorite 12 or 13 (depending on how you count) cars from the 2013 model year.
Headlining the class is the Porsche 911, which Playboy writers single out for having "remarkable electronic voodoo." BMW M5 is named "Slickest Sports Sedan" though the Cadillac ATS then follows on because "we couldn't resist giving the new Caddy a shout-out." The rest of the picks are pretty conventional (save, perhaps, the Honda Fit EV as "Ace Electric"), even if the categories and methodology are fairly wonky. Cruise through or gallery for a taste or check out the full list, here. The site is safe for work, and you can legitimately (this time) say that you were reading it for the articles.

BMW offers xDrive on 2015 2 Series

Fri, 06 Jun 2014

BMW has released its mile-long list of model changes for 2015. It's mostly comprised of tiny tweaks to options packages, pricing or trim colors, but there are a few interesting new features in there too. One thing all buyers will notice is that as of July 1, the company's destination charge increases by $25, to $950 for all of its models.
The 2 Series gets two really useful upgrades for 2015. We already knew that BMW's xDrive all-wheel drive system would be offered on the M235i this summer. However, it won't be the only 2 capable of spinning all four wheels. The 228i model will also be available with the system for $34,850 (after destination), $1,800 more than the standard model.
The other big addition brings a sportier ride to the 228i (with or without xDrive) for those who don't want to spring for the M235i. BMW is adding a Track Handling Package (pictured above) that lowers the suspension 10mm and includes the Adaptive M Suspension, Variable Sport Steering, M Sport Brakes and 18-inch wheels with Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires. It's available on manual or automatic models at $1,600 for cars ordered with the M Sport or Sport Line trims or $2,200 without it.

BMW X4 order guide sneaks onto the web

Thu, 03 Apr 2014

Much like we gave you an early look at the ordering guide for the BMW M3 and M4 (you can now configure those two, as well), yet another list of BMW options has leaked out. This time, the upcoming X4 is the target. We told you last month that prices for the X3-sized, X6-shaped vehicle started at $45,625, and now, we can confirm everything else for the newest Bimmer.
Only two trim lines will be available when the X4 arrives - M Sport and xLine. The former starts at $2,300 for the xDrive28i model and $1,900 for the xDrive35i, and includes as standard, 19-inch wheels (or optional 20s for $950), sport seats, an M steering wheel, a more aggressive body kit, a black headliner and the option of brushed aluminum interior trim. The xLine is $1,500 for the 28i and $1,000 for the 35i, and is made up exclusively of 19-inch Y-spoke wheels and dark copper interior trim.
Metallic colors dominate the pallet, with just a pair of gloss options available alongside the $550 metal-flake colors. BMW offers a pair of SensaTec leatherette options, along side a wide variety of $1,450 leather trims.
