1975 Bmw 2002 Turbo on 2040-cars
Tampa, Florida, United States
Up for auction is my 75 2002 Turbo. I drove a 2002 to high school and have owned many of them over the years. I always dreamed of owning a turbo, but I have to pass this one along. The car is 100% original with the exception of an exterior repaint and a stereo. The mileage shown is original and correct. These are RARE cars and one with mileage this low is like finding the hope diamond on the sidewalk. Every single little piece and part that makes a turbo unique is original and intact. The biggest need the car has is to be repainted. The hood, right front fender and trunk lid have rust. The sale includes a new OEM fender. The other pieces are easy to get. There are a few bubbles at the top of the rear window and a couple tiny bubbles on the right door. Not enough to cause any serious concern. The underside of the car is clean as can be, as is the trunk. These are the areas that usually rust on 2002s. The tight rear fender suffered a dent when it was being shipped to Florida from the Netherlands 14 years ago. The body is otherwise clean and straight. The paint is about 20 years old, so anything that was "hidden" would be apparent by now. The car runs/ drives/ makes boost/ and stops. It had been sitting for 3 years, so we went through the fuel system and replaced the rear wheel cylinders. The brake booster is no longer working, and it needs ether to start when its cold. The transmission & limited slip diff work like new. The interior is nothing short of remarkable. There is a tiny crack in the dash. Unfortunately someone drilled a hole in the dash to install a radar detector. There is one split in the heel pad. And someone put speakers in the doors. I have done my best to list all of the things about the car that need attention. All of these things cross with a standard 2002. They are cheap and readily available. I used to do high end restorations for a living. Finding a good solid complete original car was always the best place to start. I never intended to restore this car as an unrestored "survivor"is far more appealing to me. I hope the description and photos tell the whole story. If not, email me. The reserve is reasonable. The latest issue of Sports Car Market has an article on 2002 Turbos as "the next big thing" What you pay for this car now will be a joke in one year. Look no further than early 911 prices. DO NOT email me asking about an offline BUY IT NOW. This is an auction. If I don't get what I want for it, it goes back under the cover until I feel like working on it. And yes, the plastic model kit is included with the purchase. Thanks for looking and happy bidding!

The valance is from a carbureted 2002 (the air inlet over the radiator should not be there) and the spoiler should only have one round opening as opposed to two. This work was done VERY well as there is no sign of crash damage anywhere on the car and it was described to me as having been accident free. BMW bringing X3 diesel, X5 PHEV concept to New York
Sat, Apr 5 2014We've seen the i3 and i8 plug-in vehicles at plenty of BMW auto show stands these past few years. At the upcoming New York International Auto Show, the automaker will spread out a bit by showing off both new diesel and plug-in hybrid SUVs. Bimmer will showcase its diesel-powered X3 vehicle, which starts sales this spring as a 2015 model, and a concept plug-in hybrid X5 SUV. There are lots of figures to digest for what will be called the X3 xDrive28d. The vehicle will be powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder twin-turbodiesel engine that will deliver 180 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque. Propelled in part by an eight-speed automatic transmission, the SUV will be able to go from 0 to 60 miles per hour in about eight seconds. It will be priced with an MSRP of $42,825, which is represents a $3,500 premium over the base X3. BMW hasn't made fuel efficiency figures available, but they should be a nice improvement over the base X3's 24 mile per gallon fuel-efficiency rating in the US. Bimmer is also supposed to bring the X5 eDrive concept plug-in hybrid stateside. We saw it in Frankfurt last fall and then in some on-the-road spy shots more recently. The SUV pairs a 245-horsepower four-cylinder gasoline engine with a 95-horsepower electric motor, and will be able to go as fast as 75 mph and as far as 20 miles on electric power alone. BMW says fuel efficiency will be about 62 miles per gallon, per the more lenient European Union test cycle. That's more than double the current diesel powered X5's 26 combined mpg rating handed out by the EPA. And the model's 0-60 time is less than seven seconds. If you'd like to know more, you can take the better part of the day and check out Bimmer's mighty long press release below. BMW V8-powered Ford Model A is the definition of Hot Rod
Thu, 20 Jun 2013Today, hotrodding has a pretty staid definition. Take one classic American car, add one classic American V8, sprinkle with tire smoke and you pretty much have every hot rod to roll out of a shop in the last 40 years. Mike Borroughs knows it wasn't always this way. Once upon a time, getting your bucket to go faster meant grabbing whatever parts were lazing about the yard, bolting them together with a bit of ingenuity and laughing your way down the quarter mile. It's in that spirit that Burroughs built his 1928 Ford Model A.
Rather than turn to the tired flathead or the common Chevrolet small block, Burroughs plucked a 4.0-liter V8 from a 1995 BMW 7 Series. With 300 horsepower and 300 pound-feet of torque, the engine has no trouble shuffling the old A around town. He had to build a custom chassis to get everything to cooperate, but the result is a 1,500-pound heathen that looks built to harass dry lake beds. You can check it out in the video below. Be warned, the soundtrack by Hanni el Khatib may not be safe for work - awesomeness of this caliber rarely is.
BMW invests in carbon fiber for use beyond i and M models
Tue, 13 May 2014The immense amount of resources BMW has poured into its i brand program hasn't stopped, and recent developments indicate it's likely to pay off for BMW and BMW buyers outside the i brand. The i8 has already sold out its first year run, the i3 racked up 10,000 orders before it even went on sale and is already the subject of public discussion about being stretched into an i5, and a new investment in carbon fiber production has the automaker talking about CFRP use in non-i and non-M models.
BMW and SGL Group got together to form SGL Automotive Carbon Fibers (ACF), and the joint venture produces all of the CFRP for the i3 and i8 on two production lines at its plant in Moses Lake, Washington. After already investing $100 million to increase capacity, BMW has announced that another $200 million will add four more production lines, tripling production from 3,000 tons per year to 9,000 tons. When the expansion is complete in 2015, BMW says the Moses Lake facility will be the world's largest carbon fiber plant.
That's a lot of weave and the long view is that it will find its way into core models, with BMW exec Dr. Klaus Draeger saying, "As part of an intelligent mix of materials, we will apply carbon also beyond our BMW i and BMW M models in the future," and be able to do so "at competitive costs and in large quantities."
