1974 Bmw Baur 2002… Rare…rare..rare on 2040-cars
Walnut Creek, California, United States
I have for sale a very rare 1974 2002 Baur, only fewer than 2000 of these 2002s were ever converted by Baur and they were all intended for European market. This one was imported new in 1974 to East Coast and ended up in Florida, in 1981 the original owner sold it to his sister, she has owned it up to a month ago! I bought it from her and had intended to give it the TLC it so deserves but my fianc? is not having any of it! We are moving locally to her house and she wants me to sell my old cars. So, here is your chance to own a piece of BMW/Baur history.
Here is the list of what's good; - The car is not perfect but is in good overall condition, it was repainted about 7 to 10 years ago, paint still has a nice shine. - Body has very good integrity, it's very original, both Targa top and rear soft top are in serviceable condition. - Interior is good condition, front seats don't have any issues, rear seat is good with exception of three holes, dash has the usual cracks, door panels are in good condition. - Glasses seem to be original. - Mechanically it's very sound, original carb and choke are intact, engine runs very smooth and strong, transmission is solid and goes through gears with ease. - It was featured on the cover of the June 1981 issue of BMW CCA Roudel magazine, how cool is that? - It's in very original condition with minimal rust. - The steering wheel is a vintage three piece sport signed MOMO, this alone is worth between $700 to $1000. - Lights, wipers, horn, heater even cigaret lighter work. The bad, - There are a few paint bubbles on the hood. - The rust I could see is under driver's side floor board. - Turn signals do not work, probably a relay. - Tires are bad and should be replaced. Please don't hesitate to ask any questions, I have many more photos and will be happy to send them. Thank you. Ken Block and friends race light in silly-beautiful Castrol commercial
Wed, 28 May 2014How does one make fast, loud, drifting cars better? Well, you can add more fast, loud, drifting cars or you can add lasers. Either or, really. In this case, Castrol did the right thing and added both, creating a highly stylized commercial for its Edge Titanium motor oil starring South African racer Adrian Zaugg, BMW factory driver Augusto Farfus, Audi DTM and Le Mans staple Mike Rockenfeller and some bloke named Ken Block.
Their cars? No surprise, but Block is in his Ford Fiesta GRC, while Zaugg samples a Lamborghini Aventador and Farfus and Rockenfeller drive along party lines, with a BMW M4 and an Audi R8, respectively. And those cars look good, too, thanks to the creative light and laser work on display.
Take a look below for the video from Castrol.
BMW preparing two concepts for Villa d'Este
Thu, 20 Mar 2014Every spring, the finest automobiles ever to grace tarmac gather on the shores of Lake Como for the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este. It's a chance for the most beautiful classics to compete for awards and for automakers and design studios to show off their concept cars under the soft light of the Italian sun. But while most of the vehicles old and new that show up for the concours are ones we've seen before, BMW takes things a step further.
As patron of the concorso d'eleganza for the past ten years, BMW regularly cooks up something new for the glamorous extravaganza. Last year it teamed up with Pininfarina for the Gran Lusso Coupé and revealed it alongside the Concept 90 motorcycle. The year before that came the BMW Zagato Coupe, preceded by the 328 Hommage and the M1 Hommage (pictured above) before it.
The theme for this year's event is the Roaring Twenties. BMW may not have been known back then on the same level as Bugatti or Duesenberg, but Rolls-Royce sure was.
BMW to launch loaner program to avoid range anxiety on i models
Tue, 12 Mar 2013BMW is looking to stave off electric vehicle range anxiety with a new program that offers buyers a free gasoline loaner with every i3 purchase. Ward's Auto reports BMW is confident that the EV will give buyers the kind of transportation they need for 90 percent of their trips. The loaners, meanwhile, will be available for those few occasions when drivers need to cover more ground than the machine's batteries will allow. The i3 gets around with help from a 180-horsepower electric motor paired with a lithium-ion battery pack.
The combo is good for trips of between 80 and 100 miles depending on driving habits and weather conditions, though BMW also plans to offer a model with a small two-cylinder range-extending gasoline engine as well. That option will likely set you back an additional $4,000. When the machine bows in 2014, it will likely come with a charge time of four to six hours when suckling from a 220-volt outlet.
As far as the conventionally powered loaner car goes, the cost of the program is included in the i3's purchase price, though BMW has yet to figure out how many free loans will be offered, or what happens after that threshold is reached.
