1974 Bmw 2002tii Original Sahara Beige Paint, 5 Speed, A/c, Looks & Runs Great! on 2040-cars
Paso Robles, California, United States
I looked for a long time for a nice 2002 before acquiring this car. This beautiful 1974 2002 Tii has been carefully maintained and upgraded by several enthusiasts over the last 40 years.
The first owner was a dentist who purchased it for his daughter, and after realizing she didn't like manual transmissions, sold it to Bob, owner number two, who is a long time BMWCCA member. Bob kept and enjoyed the car for 25 years, driving it through many US states, as well as an extended vacation in Europe one year. He upgraded the transmission to a BMW 5speed and also added a BMW limited slip differential (both imported from Germany)and last kept it in Arizona, where, after his long term ownership, he sold it to a friend in Arizona. Jim, owner number three, had a performance engine rebuild done on the original block by Top End Performance in North Hollywood, CA. Also added around that time were rear disc brakes, front and rear shock tower bracing by Top End Performance, a performance header for the exhaust, open air intake, and larger front and rear sway bars. Two more Arizona enthusiasts owned it after Jim, and then I purchased it not quite two years ago and drove it non stop from Phoenix to just northwest of Los Angeles, where it now resides. Over the last two years, I've had the car tuned up to run more optimally, fixed a few small annoying issues (loose shifter, noisy door hinge, small paint touch up, etc.) Although the engine only has about 12000 miles on it, I had a compression check done, and the readings were all between 180 and 192. The car starts right up whether it's been parked for two months or two minutes. The combination of the higher engine horsepower, 5 speed, four wheel disc brakes, and handling upgrades make it very fun to drive, whether on the freeway or a twisty back road. It supposedly has about 10-15% more power than stock, and I can say with certainty that it is faster than an MGA, but slower than a Tiger or GT500! The Behr air conditioner blows cold, and the older Blaupunkt stereo sounds good, and has hidden speakers (notice no speaker holes in the interior door panels or rear package shelf). The stereo also has a cassette deck and Sony CD stacker mounted in the trunk with remote, but I have only listened to the radio. A box full of receipts and maintenance records is included with the car, along with the owner's manual, BMWCCA tech manual, Volumes 1 & 2 of the BMW 2002 shop manual, and an extensive assortment of spare parts, as pictured. CONDITION: BODY...Aside from a few very professionally done minor touch ups, I believe that this has all original paint, as stated by prior owner and also professional body shop owner who inspected it for me. All chrome and glass are in great condition, stainless trim is great with exception of one ding on driver's side behind door, despite my efforts to park it far away from the crowds! All lenses are good except front left corner light has a small hole in the front edge of the plastic. I have a used replacement light for this. Chassis, except for a few small areas of surface rust (it's original, never been repainted) is straight and corrosion free, as shown in photos. All gaps are good, doors, trunk and hood open and shut properly. One key operates both doors, ignition and locking gas cap, a second key operates the trunk. INTERIOR...Front seats as shown are upgraded from a newer BMW and are very comfortable. Rear seat, side panels, headliner and carpet all appear to be original and in good to excellent condition. The driver's side door panel has a pencil-eraser sized flaw above the arm rest and the headliner has a small 1/4-1/2" slit above the passenger sun visor; these are the only significant flaws I've noticed. It has a Momo Prototipo steering wheel, as well as a three gauge cluster which resides where the original Tii clock was located (which is included)..The Baupunkt radio sounds good, the speakers are hidden (notice no speaker holes in the door panels or rear package shelf). It has a Sony CD stacker in the trunk with a remote control, but I haven't used that or the cassette deck. The Behr Air Conditioner works well and blows cold, which came in handy in Arizona! I believe the headliner and sun visors are original and very clean, aside from the one tiny slit noted. The front corner windows open and shut, the door windows roll up and down easily, and the rears pop out. The carpet is protected by older Coco floor mats, which are in good shape, except for the driver's mat which has worn where your heal rests. It also has competition belts sitting on the rear floor which connect into the stock belts, but I haven't used them. TRUNK...Has the jack, tool kit, spare rim (bottle cap style with an older unused Mojave radial spare tire), original floor panels. Top End Performance rear shock tower brace/battery holder have been added. No rust or damage as shown, even in spare tire well. Nice original paint on panels and inside of trunk lid. ENGINE...Compartment holds performance rebuilt original engine, with upgraded header, air cleaner, MSD ignition/coil set up. Original air cleaner, coils and exhaust manifold included. Aftermarket horns added, original BMW stickers are in place. Insulation added under hood. In December, 2012 I had the spark plugs and wires replaced, valves adjusted, the air filter serviced and the fuel injection serviced and adjusted, and had the compression checked at that time (192, 185, 185, 180). I've put about 554 miles on the car since then. It runs very strong and smooth, and starts up easily whether it's been sitting for two minutes or two months. When not in use, it is kept covered in a garage and on a battery tender. I try to drive it at least once every one to two months for at least 20-30 minutes. MISCELLANEOUS...The tires are Michelin Pilot Exalto AS 195/60 R14 with very low miles and in my opinion look and handle very well on the mesh style rims. The brakes stop well and straight, and the car handles great...driving this, you can see why the 2002, especially the Tii, really put BMW on the map! SUMMARY...While I don't profess to be a BMW expert, I believe this is one of the best original paint 2002 Tii's you'll find anywhere. While it absolutely isn't stock or restored, it's very enjoyable to drive, looks great, and all non-original parts are bolted on. When I purchased it in September, 2012, I drove it the roughly 450 miles from Phoenix to Ventura without a hitch, but thought it could run stronger, and it now does. So, I wouldn't hesitate to drive it anywhere, but with that said, it's 40 years old and is for sale without warranty expressed or implied, and is for sale as is. I have acquired a few other older cars since this one, and reluctantly must sell something, so this is it...I'm sure I'll regret it once it's gone, but that's the way it goes! This is an auction with what I believe to be a fair reserve. I don't have to sell it, and it is being advertised elsewhere, so I reserve the right to end the auction if it sells elsewhere. I'm also not interested in playing scam games like sending it out with a bogus check to cover costs, etc., so please don't try. I am willing to hold it for up to three weeks at no charge after the auction if paid in full. If you have less than 15 Ebay feedbacks you must contact me before bidding or I will cancel the bid. I can make it available for a shipper to pick up after all funds have been cleared by my bank, but shipping costs and arrangements are up to the buyer. Any inspections must be arranged with me prior to the end of the auction. The car is kept in secure storage in the 93004 zip code, Ventura, California. I require a $1000 non refundable deposit to my Paypal account within 24 hours of the auction end by buyer, and the remaining purchase funds to be in my possession within five business days, by cash or certified check. The car will not leave my premises until all funds clear my bank. For questions, you can write through Ebay, or call or leave a message at (80five) 21eight-550three. Thank you for your time and interest! |

Reverse-engineering i3 shows BMW profits after 20,000 sales
Tue, Jan 6 2015"This is, without a question of a doubt, the most advanced vehicle on the planet. It's as revolutionary as the Model T was when it came out." That is exceptionally high praise, and it's not even being heaped on one of the million-dollar hybrid hypercars from Ferrari or McLaren. It's not even being attributed to a particularly zealous Tesla fan. Nope, it's coming from a mustachioed man in suburban Detroit, and he's discussing a $42,400 BMW hatchback with Forbes. Of course, said hatchback is the revolutionary i3, and Sandy Munro's statements carry some degree of authority, as his company is tearing apart and analyzing every little nut, washer and bolt on the four-seat EV. Munro's eponymous company performs reverse-engineering analysis, meaning they rip apart brand new cars and sell the information to the world's automakers, saving OEM's both time and money. The most interesting thing it has discovered thus far? That even with the high costs of two of the i3's most important elements – carbon-fiber-reinforced plastic and lithium-ion batteries – his company's analysis shows that BMW need only sell about 20,000 units a year to turn a profit, Forbes reports. While Munro's company is often contracted by automakers, he's gone it alone on the i3 project, dropping about $1 million into in-depth analysis. That's a lot of money, but the company should be able to turn around and sell its findings for about $500,000, with a batch of Chinese automakers already queued up and ready to buy. Analysis of individual i3 components will also be available from a sort of a la carte menu. To see what it is about the i3 that has Munro speaking so highly of it, head over to the Forbes website and check out the feature article and video on the reverse-engineering process. BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe spotted wearing minimal camo, M Sport pack
Mon, 14 Oct 2013The new BMW 4 Series is essentially the coupe version of the latest 3 Series. So it would stand to reason that the four-door version of the 4 Series, in turn, would be the 3 Series - right? Well, yes and no.
Just as BMW offers both a 5 Series sedan and a four-door version of the 6 Series called the Gran Coupe, so, too, will its 4-Series family expand. So following the release of the new 4 Series Convertible, here we have the latest batch of spy shots showing the upcoming 4 Series Gran Coupe - which in turn should not be confused with the hunchbacked 3 Series Gran Turismo, which is more of a sporty wagon than a four-door coupe.
The nearly ready test vehicle pictured here is wearing only minimal camouflage to hide some last few details, but also appears to be wearing the M Sport package that will bridge the gap (at least, visually speaking) between the base models and the M4 Gran Coupe that is all but certain to follow.
Alpina B3 Bi-Turbo burns all the midnight oil
Wed, 11 Sep 2013We've got good news and bad news for you, boys and girls, from the floor of the Frankfurt Motor Show. The good news is that the BMW M3 has come early, with a diesel, in wagon form - albeit with a different name. The bad news is that it will in all likelihood never make it to America. Which is a shame, because it's awesome.
What we're talking about, of course, is the new Alpina D3 Bi-Turbo. BMW's wickedly talented but lesser know stepchild has created a 3 Series with a 3.0-liter twin-turbo diesel six packing 345 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque. You - and by "you," we mean overseas buyers - can choose between sedan or wagon, as well as rear- or all-wheel drive. But the bottom line is a 4.6-second 0-62 time and a 173-mph top speed... from a diesel.
We scoped out the rear-drive wagon Alpina brought to the show, decked out in its signature blue. And you can, too, in the gallery of live shots above, along with the freshly assembled stock photos of both sedan and wagon versions in the gallery below.
