If you’re reading this ad, I don’t need to explain to you what a 2002 tii is.  What you’re looking at here is a 20 year old restoration of a 40 year old car.  We are the 4th owner and the car has been in California its entire life.  I want this car to go to someone who knows what they are getting, so if you have any questions after reading this posting, please let me know.

Like all abandon restoration projects, this one has a story.  My son and I bought this car about 3 years ago as a father/son project.  The first year, we got the car running well, did a ton of work on all the safety related stuff, and just went after fixing all the little things that needed immediate attention. We also started sourcing parts for the build.  About that time, my son got more interested in girls, so we never got around to doing the body and interior.  He recently left the country and is serving his military duty overseas for the next two years, so we have jointly decided to sell the car. His only request was that we find a good home for it who will love it as much as we have.

The body is very solid with only the surface rust and a minor paint bubbling in a few spots.  This was originally a Polaris silver car.  When restored, the car was painted an off -white color which is pretty hazy and faded, but because it was professionally prepped when the car was restored, it's held up pretty well.  The texture you may notice under the rear bumper is actually undercoating that the previous owner had applied when they re-sprayed the car.  This has protected the undercarriage nicely, and the critical points (rockers, fenders, and shock towers) are all solid and rust free.  Note the interior panels were replaced behind rear seat, package shelf, and front kick panels by a restoration shop that is known for their work with older cars. This was done to cover holes left behind by the massive sound system installation that the previous owner had put in the car.

The car starts easy and runs strong.  The engine has good compression and makes great power, but does have a minor oil pan leak.  In its current condition, the car could be used as a reliable daily driver as it sits.  However, it’s in a condition that makes it worthy of investing in.  It would not take much to get the minor problems corrected, and it would be a great candidate for a full original resto, or resto-mod.

Porsche 911 Turbo and Nissan GT-R Nismo star in World's Greatest Drag Race 4

Fri, 26 Sep 2014

We love Motor Trend's annual World's Greatest Drag Race video. Now back for its fourth appearance, the idea of lining some of the world's fastest cars up for a ten-wide, straight-line, full-throttle run is, well... it's pretty freaking badass.
The lineup this year boasts some impressively fast cars to be sure. The group of ten includes the following darlings: Alfa Romeo 4C, BMW i8, BMW M4, Chevrolet Camaro Z/28, Ford Fiesta ST, Jaguar F-Type R Coupe, Nissan GT-R Nismo, Porsche 911 Turbo S, Subaru WRX STI and, last but not least, the Volkswagen GTI. Give us any one of those for the weekend, and we're happy to take the keys.
It must be said though, that for a publication that draws as much water as Motor Trend does, there are some big cars that we might expect to be here instead. The Lamborghini Huracán or Ferrari 458 Speciale would have added some exotic flare to the list, and the omissions of the Chevy Corvette Stingray (for the second year in a row) and the Dodge Challenger Hellcat are real head-scratchers.

Cars with the worst resale value after 5 years

Tue, Nov 7 2023

While the old saying that cars lose a massive chunk of their value as soon as they’re driven off the dealerÂ’s lot might not be entirely true these days, most new vehicles steadily lose value as they age and are used. iSeeCars recently released its latest study on depreciation, finding the models that lose value the fastest, and the list is packed with high-end nameplates. The vehicles that lost value the fastest over five years include: Maserati Quattroporte: 64.5% depreciation BMW 7 Series: 61.8% Maserati Ghibli: 61.3% BMW 5 Series Hybrid: 58.8% Cadillac Escalade ESV: 58.5% BMW X5: 58.2% Infiniti QX80: 58.1% Maserati Levante: 57.8% Jaguar XF: 57.6% Audi A7: 57.2% While sports cars, hybrids, and trucks dominated the list of slowest-depreciating vehicles, luxury brands accounted for all of the top ten fastest-depreciating models. iSeeCars executive analyst Karl Brauer also pointed out EVsÂ’ lack of representation on the slow-depreciating vehicles list, saying that thereÂ’s a disconnect between what automakers are building and what people actually want. The average five-year depreciation for all vehicles in the iSeeCars study was 38.8 percent. ThatÂ’s an almost 11% improvement over 2019Â’s figures, but some vehicle types perform worse than others. EVs depreciated 49.1 percent over five years, while SUVs dropped 41.2%. Trucks only fell 34.8% and hybrids 37.4%. Brauer noted that all vehicles depreciate slower than they did five years ago. Even so, EVs are not the best choice if youÂ’re looking for a vehicle that wonÂ’t feel like a ripoff when itÂ’s time to trade in. On the flip side, used EVs can present a stellar value, saving thousands over their new counterparts. Charging times and availability remain concerns for buyers in large parts of the country, but a heavily depreciated EV could be the used car value youÂ’ve been looking for. The same wisdom applies to used luxury vehicles, as the list above indicates. While new-car buyers shopping for luxury cars are set to see big depreciation during their ownership, that means the used car market is flooded with inexpensive used luxury cars. High repair costs and costly maintenance schedules are real issues that used luxury models face, however. Green Audi BMW Cadillac Infiniti Jaguar Maserati Car Buying Used Car Buying

2014 BMW 2 Series earns IIHS Top Safety Pick+ [w/video]

Thu, 26 Jun 2014

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has just certified its latest Top Safety Pick+, honoring the all-new BMW 2 Series with the coveted rating.
IIHS cited the 2 Series' crash test ratings, which were rated as "Good" in the small overlap, moderate overlap, side and rollover. In the tricky small overlap test, the crash test dummy was at a "low risk of any significant injury."
The Institute was also complimentary of the 2 Series' head restraint system and its collision prevention system, including forward collision warning and City Braking.
