1972 BMW 2002, Verona Red (original color) with many desireable upgrades. The car is nearly rust free (I'd never claim zero rust), but was a west coast car until I shipped it here 4 years ago. I've never driven it in salty conditions. The car looks great, is straight, no obvious accidents, and fairly well sorted out. It is agile and peppy to drive and has been completely reliable. I'm retiring and going travelling, so it doesn't make sense to keep the car. There are many desireable upgrades, but none that are irreversible. Here are descriptions: Drive train & exhaust-5 speed transmission; smooth synchros and good clutch. No oil leaks. 3 series radiator. Weber DCOE 40 dual carbs. (Original Weber 2 BBL available-both setups run great). Header and complete Turbo exhaust (orig. manifold included). 3 series radiator (no cooling issues). Suspension & brakes-tii front struts & brakes. Aardvark rear (VW) disc brake conversion. Car stops well. F & R sway bars. F & R strut braces, incl. battery in trunk. Front tie rods, ball joints, and bushings replaced (rears not yet installed). H & R (lowered) spring all around. Wheels & Tires-Falken ZE-912 195/50-15 performance tires on Rota rims. Only a few hundred miles on the tires. Body & Interior-Recaro vinyl front seats with Schroth AutoControl II 4 point belts (comfortable and electrically lockable with dash switch for track use, etc.) 6er leather rear buckets (who knew they fit on the exisiting mounting tabs and fit great?) Fresh carpet with sound deadening undlayment. Coco mats. Doors and windows operate. Heater, wipers, and lights work. Glass is good. Mirrors are good. The undercarriage is clean without any obvious damage. There is some scraping on the rails where the car was jacked up. Shock towers, spare tire well, rockers, door & trunk edges are not rusty. Trim is all present; there are a few dings. Bumpers are good. Electrical-Hella H4 headlamps and 160 driving lights. All lights operated thru relays. Euro turn signals. Alpine stereo with 6 X 9 speakers and tweeters. 3-gauge set (oil pressure, coolant temp, volts.) Condition issues-The car was repainted by the PO and it's an OK job. It needs to be rubbed out. The interior is the weakest point of the car. The door panels need some trim pieces, the LH door pull is the wrong color, the dash is cracked (of course), the underdash panels are not present. The headliner is ratty; a new one is included. There is a small paint flaw on the roof just above the RH side windshield pillar (was there when I bought the car and hasn't changed) as well as some small bubbles at the rear window line (see photos.) The gas gauge is inoperable (ground?) and the coolant temp gauge is erratic (ground?) Speedo and odomoters work. I've posted a video of the engine running and a short blast thru my neighborhood at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qqBNSkTvOiM&feature=youtu.be The car is where is, as is, of course. I will deliver the car for local shipping, but will not arrange it. Cash on delivery. Downpayment is NOT refundable unless I have made a substantial error or misrepresentation here. I would consider a trade + cash for an interesting older BMW (older than 1990 or so) or 13-18' Boston Whaler. If you have questions, I'll answer them promptly. The car has a clean, unencumbered MN title. Final payment in cash (at my bank) or wire transfer. Subject to local sale. The car is not perfect, but I feel my reserve price is fair in today's market. The car is very useable as is, but with some more effort, it can be stunning.

2015 BMW X3 arrives with tweaked styling, diesel option

Wed, 05 Feb 2014

The luxury crossover market has been a huge success for BMW, having sold over a million X3 models worldwide since the CUV first went on sale in 2003, not to mention all of the momentum its had with the larger X5. At the Chicago Auto Show, BMW is unveiling the refreshed 2015 X3, featuring an improved design, a new diesel engine option, and a rear-wheel drive variant.
The X3 is getting some handsome upgrades to the exterior. The twin, circular headlights now extend to touch the slightly widened, chrome kidney grille, to bring the styling in line with the 3 Series and 4 Series. (LED headlights are now optional, as well.) The front bumper gets reshaped brake cooling ducts, and the rear bumper gets a touch of additional metal trim at the bottom. BMW has also added standard LED turn signals in the side mirrors.
BMW has enhanced the interior with added chrome trim, high-gloss black trim around the center console, sliding covers for the cup holders and new interior upholstery designs. The X3 is also getting a major boost in optional technology - there's a new Parking Assistant, as well as an Active Driving Assistant with adaptive cruise control, Lane Departure Warning, Frontal Collision Warning, Pedestrian Warning, and City Collision Mitigation.

Next-gen BMW 7 Series options include 'Sky Lounge' roof, leather engine cover

Sun, Jan 4 2015

When it comes to luxury and technology, the theme of the next-generation BMW 7 Series appears to be 'everything, everywhere.' Two of the new options joining what will be an extensive list are the Sky Lounge panoramic glass roof, said to be a nod going all the way back to the Concept 5 Series Gran Turismo showed off at the 2009 Geneva Motor Show. That is clearly about the light, but what about the leather? That's going to cover everything it seems, should the buyer choose. Auto Evolution says it's been told about a 3CM option code, which equates to a Leather Engine Cover. If it's offered, though, it won't be the first time BMW has done it, of a sort: the $10,800 Pure Impulse package on the BMW i8 wraps the engine cover in leather, but in the i8 the engine is in the rear, under the trunk floor, so we're really talking about a leather-floored cargo bay. No one knows yet what it would look like atop a conventional engine, and no one appears to have any clue, frankly, as to why it's even an option. The 7 Series will pack a bunch more besides within its new aluminum and carbon fibre platform and redrawn bodywork, the sedan is reportedly targeting a curb weight that's less than the current 5 Series. There'll be four sculpted seats in the cabin, with rear seats apparently offering the range of options available on the front seats, a redesigned iDrive system with a touchscreen LCD that reads gestures, wireless smartphone charging, Bowers & Wilkins audio instead of Harman Kardon, heads-up data sharing between passenger and driver via swipes, laser headlights and an i8-like key fob with limited self-parking functions. That's a serious goody bag of tech, which we expect to get our hands in at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Looking back at 84 years of BMW roadsters

Tue, 01 Oct 2013

Today BMW is a top player in the luxury vehicle market, but it wasn't always so. With origins as an airplane engine builder early in the 20th Century, it broke into the automotive industry when it bought Automobilwerk Eisenach in 1928. That German manufacturer was licensed to build the Austin Seven under the name Dixi DA-1, which could be had in a roadster body style. In 1929, BMW dropped the Dixi name, and by 1936, it was building a car it designed in-house, the 326 sedan. That was followed by the company's first roadster of its own design, the swoopy two-door 327 of 1937.
XCAR picks up there, and gives a history of BMW's iconic roadsters starting with the 327, ending with today's Z4, and covering everything in between - including the beautiful post-war 507 of 1957 and the funky, plastic-bodied 1989 Z1.
The video, which we've included below, is a good history lesson and a great chance to see a bunch of classic BMWs, spanning 84 years, all driven back to back within the safe confines of a racetrack. When you have a spare 20 minutes, go ahead and take some time to watch it.
