1972 BMW 2002 Baur Targa,-- Rare European Model. VIN# 2795512 matching/engine/ chassis . Number 512 of 1963 Baur Targa Cabriolets produced by Baur. Manufactured on June 13th 1972 and was delivered to Italy. http://classicandvintagebmw.tumblr.com/02targa (check this site for more info on Baur Targa) Car was imported into the USA in April of 2007. Mileage at the date of sale was 92,250. Prior to purchase, the engine ,suspension and brakes were rebuilt by Jaymic in England. I have many of the old receipts (new clutch, brake calipers, etc.) from Jaymic as well the original owner’s manuals, etc. These repairs were made at round the 85k mileage mark and are documented in repair log. The interior was professionally re-done and a new German square weave carpet kit was installed by the new owner in Los Gatos,CA. During the installation of the carpet , he located a 1962 Italian Lira(coin) under the old carpet kit. That helped to confirm that the car spent its early days in Italy. The coin has been drilled and is attached to the vintage BMW leather key chain along with the original keys and aftermarket gas cap key. The car was re-painted some time in England by the previous owner, the paint still looks good. Only on the hood I can see small bubble paint. The car has some small micro scratches. A new Apline CDA-9883 in-dash w/removable face CD/MP3 receiver(xm/Sirius satellite ready) with iPod connection along with Alpine under dash speakers were installed in September 2007. Door panels and rear passenger panels were not cut. Routine lube, oil & filer changes have been made every 3k miles. Weber carburetor (replaced the Solex) and Pertonix electronic ignition were installed in 08/2010 mileage 98,075. Current mileage is 99,923. Tires are 80% good. Car has a Nardi steering wheel and Cosmic wheels. Dome light too. All lights, turn signals, brake lights, fog lights and rear bumper mounted brake light work. Windshield and all windows are clean/clear and Sonneland rear window on the convertible Targa top is clean/clear as well. I also have an extra windshield that has been wrapped in bubble wrap. Most recent service by Import Doctors in Seattle- 01/2013. Lube, synthetic oil & filter, new water pump and coolant. Mileage at service-99,463. You are welcome to do pre-purchase inspection before the auction ends. I had described the car in best of my knowledge, please ask any questions. I trust this car to go cross-country but the car is sold “AS IS” without any warranty. This vehicle will only go up in value. This is the only one the I come across. |

On Location in California with BMW and Mini
Thu, Feb 25 2016A mid-winter escape from frigid Michigan to drive a trio of new BMW and Mini products? It'd be a busy couple of days, but you can't argue with Southern California in February. The temperatures in LA, where we drove the Mini Cooper S Convertible, hovered in the mid-80s, and it was solidly in the 70s further north, at Monterey, where we drove the M2 and X4 M40i. The highlight of the trip was Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, which is a rewarding track to drive in a street car. The M2 was a blast there. The canyon roads above Malibu in the Mini were a close second, but even the lazy drive down the PCH to Big Sur was a blast. More important is the California state of mind we were in when driving all three of these cars. I've spent a lot of time in this state, and it has a complicated relationship with the car – and there's also a huge difference in attitude between the greater Bay Area and Southern California. Ample sun and twisty roads clash with image-consciousness, eco-consciousness, and brutal urban gridlock, and each BMW dealt with that paradox admirably, in its own way. Take a quick jaunt to California with me and check out the locations and experiences that helped form our impressions of these vehicles: the 2016 BMW M2 First Drive, the 2016 Mini Cooper S Convertible First Drive, and the 2016 BMW X4 M40i Quick Spin.
Buy this Munro report, get a free BMW i3
Tue, Jan 13 2015Here's an offer we've never heard of: if you buy the Master- or OEM-level version of a detailed production and cost report on the BMW i3, the engineering firm that produced the report will give you a 'free' i3. Bangle urges auto design shakeup, says industry not innovating
Fri, 30 Aug 2013Controversial designer Chris Bangle, the man behind the notorious E65 BMW 7-Series "Bangle Butt," has some rather sharp criticism for the current crop of automotive designers in an upcoming full-length interview with Automotive News Europe. The preview, posted on Automotive News, details parts of the interview, with the always vocal Bangle lamenting the state of modern automotive design.
"Even concept cars today simply anticipate the next production model coming down the line. Is this innovation? No. And at the end of the day this is what's preventing car design from moving into a new era." Controversial as Bangle's design philosophy may be, we can't help but think he has a point. His so-called "flame surfacing" at BMW and other stylistic elements had a huge influence on modern automotive design, although as the years have passed, there hasn't been much innovation on the same scale.
Interestingly, Bangle also mentions that he's been courted by a few manufacturers that wanted to install the American as the head of their design teams. He's flatly rejected them, telling ANE, "It's not something you can do part time, you have to do it with all your heart and soul or you're going to get it wrong."
