Wow Low mile all Original roundie 2002 - No modifications - just like it was in 1972 in Granada Red and black interior
This car was in the same family until the fall of 2012. It was sold by the son of the original owner to settle an estate. The original owners son was going to college in California and working part time at a Cadillac /BMW dealer. His parents had just bought a retirement home in Carmel California and his mother wanted to support him. Her request was red outside and black interior. When it arrived to the dealer the chrome grill guards / bumper overiders were installed. This BMW became her favorite car and was never to be sold even though they normally got a new car every 3 years. When acquired, the car it still had the vanity license plates that were put on the car in 1972 with her name. The car was always stored in the garage unless it was driven. I have receipts and documents going back many years to prove the low miles.
I have had several 2002 BMW's and this is the cleanest and most original one I have seen. I drove it a short while and soon realized although it was very low miles it was still 40 years old and needed some mechanical maintenance. So into the shop it went and was serviced as needed to be reliable as an extra car for me to drive. I spent the money with out any idea of ever selling, but have fallen in love with another vintage car, so some one will be getting a gem. I have receipts for all the work with over 7k spent to put it back using quality German parts to put it into like new driving condition.
The car was repainted about ten years ago and looks good. The stainless is very good, with only one piece on the trunk that is damaged. There is a new N.O.S. BMW piece that goes with the car. The windshield seal is cracked and a new BMW seal is included. The chrome is very nice, with only a light dent and pitting to the rear bumper center section. The interior is next to mint. The driver seat lower cushion had a spit seam and was recovered to match. There is a very small crack on the dash ( hard to see) on the corner were the speedo surround comes to the flat part of the dash. The carpets are original and in great shape with some wear in the drivers area. The headliner is mint. The original windows are in great shape. Steering wheel is perfect. Most that see the interior think is has been restored.
The running gear is were the big investment was made. The transmission had a noise in 3 gear, the struts were original and soft and the heater cables were stuck. It still had a set of 1980's Michelin's tires on the car. Here is a list of some of the items that were rebuilt.
- Transmission rebuilt- all new bearings & seals ( 4 speed manual)
- Clutch and throw out bearing replaced
- Clutch master and slave cylinders replaced
- Brake master replaced
- Rear brakes, machined drums, replaced wheel cylinders
- Front brakes, flex hoses, calipers, rotors
- Exhaust hangers replaced ( pipes and muffler solid)
- Complete heater box removed and rebuilt ( all conrols are very smooth)
- New heater core
- Front suspension rebuilt, all new bushings, ball joints, control arms
- All 5 wheels were sent out for powder coating in the original silver metallic color
- New set of 5 all season radial tires, new valve stems
- Alignment
- Belts, Battery, Oil change, and tune up
- All gear oils changed to Red Line synthetic
- Front struts in KYB gas
- Rear shocks in KYB gas
- Radiator serviced and flushed
This car is a blast to drive. All the lights works, gauges, heater, defroster and has a am/fm stereo. The windows roll up & down very smooth. It turns heads and everyone talks about the one they had just like it. It was a challenge to keep it stock as I have several ones that were modified. But they are only original once and so hard to find a unmolested one anymore. The rear panels were taken out above the fuel tank for an inspection and absolutely no rust was found. On the hoist the car is just as solid underneath. There is signs of rust in the rear corner of the right front fender were a patch of mud was found. And the drivers door has a few pimple, but no holes. Overall a very solid car you can drive anywhere anytime.
I have sold several classic cars on e-bay in the last few years from my collection and for friends. All the buyers have been happy.
Road test, phone calls are encouraged and very welcome. Steve Fisher 206-755-3420

I was asked about undercarriage pictures, Just added 4 of them. You can see how dry this car is underneath.
I had to put a rag over the front plate because of reflection in the camera.
Thanks for the questions. Steve

Someone's willing to pay $16,000 for a hollow, non-working BMW i8
Tue, Aug 26 2014There is an unusual BMW i8 for sale on eBay right now. Unlike your average – and by that we mean "working" – i8, this one pretty much just sits there, looking pretty. See, the i8 in question is just a promotional body shell. It's fullsize and being sold (we think) by a legit BMW dealer (Laurel BMW of Westmont), so it's got strong ties to the real thing, but there's nothing inside. In fact, you can't open the doors or windows and the wheels don't move, unless you count the tiny rolling castors that are a part of the prop. There is no fancy plug-in hybrid powertrain – no powertrain of any sort, in fact – and it was "professionally crafted just for BMW dealers." The headlights do turn on, though, so that's something. What's most impressive, though, is that there are 50 bids for this non-working BMW. In fact, the bidding has climbed up to $16,000. For a car that can't fulfill its mission as a car, that's pretty impressive. Oh, and those bids have not yet hit the reserve price, so the dealer is obviously hoping it can get more money for this hollow BMW. The official base MSRP for a working i8 is $135,700. The first i8 delivered in the US, a special edition for Pebble Beach, just sold for $825,000.
BMW begins restoring Elvis Presley's 507 [w/video]
Thu, 24 Jul 2014Imagine the King of Rock n' Roll driving a car and you'll likely picture a pink Cadillac or a yellow De Tomaso shot full of holes. But Elvis also owned a 1957 BMW 507 roadster, and now that roadster is returning home to BMW headquarters.
The 507 was a rare bird, of which only 254 examples were ever made. They were sold mostly to celebrities and royalty, but Elvis Presley was a GI when he bought it while stationed in Germany. The example that he bought had been displayed at the Frankfurt Motor Show, used as a press car and raced by Hans Stuck (which is how Elvis came to see it in the first place), so when he took delivery of it second-hand, the dealership had a new engine installed. It was originally white, but legend has it that Elvis got tired of women writing their phone numbers on the side of it in lipstick that he had it repainted in red.
Stories differ on what exactly happened to it next, with some saying that he returned it once the lease was up and other saying that the army shipped it back to him in the States after his tour was over. But what we do know is that the car sat for many years, neglected but sheltered from the elements. Now it's heading to the the BMW Museum in Munich, where it will be on display until August 10, after which the BMW Group Classic department will undertake a comprehensive restoration of the star-studded roadster that's expected to take two years of work.
BMW i8 pitted against M4 in sibling rivalry track battle
Wed, Jan 7 2015We recently watched Auto Bild challenge the BMW i8 against the M4 in a German drag race of decide the quicker of the inter-brand rivals. The hybrid took a commanding victory in that fight. However, Autocar now has a new battle for the two coupes. The siblings are together again on the Castle Combe Circuit to find out which of them offers the more enjoyable experience at the track. Unfortunately, we don't ever get a perfect point of comparison in the video because host Steve Sutcliffe never does a full lap in anger with either of them to set a time. Instead, he focuses more on how the BMWs feel behind the wheel. Sutcliffe also admits midway through the clip that the i8's electric motor is out of juice to power the front axle's electric motor. That only leaves the hybrid with its 228-horsepower and 236-pound-feet-of-torque turbocharged three-cylinder to spin the rear wheels. Still, Sutcliffe spends ample time explaining the benefits and downfalls of driving these coupes. See where his opinion falls between the M4 as the traditional German sports coupe and the i8 as the new-school hybrid in the video, above.
