Here for sale is a solid, driving 1970 BMW 2002. This car needs work, but comes with my stash of parts. I used to drive it daily, but now I drive a different car, and I don't have a place to store it inside, so I think it is time to let someone else take care of it.

Car was stripped to race at some point, so it has minimal trim, no interior panels, etc. I left it that way even though this is not a race car. I just wanted an aggressive street car.

Body is solid overall. There is some rust bubbling under the paint in a couple of places. The only rust-through is a small spot in the passenger-rear floor. Trunk floor was replaced at some point (still needs seams finished). Obviously the paint doesn't match, and there are some primer spots to help combat some of the surface rust. Body work would be required to make this a nice car, but with a little work it would make a sweet driver.

Engine runs well, burns some oil and leaks some oil. Has a Weber 32/36 DGV (manual choke) carburetor. It runs off of a Ford EDIS distributor-less ignition with a MegaJolt controller. Runs very well and has given me no problems. Distributor is in place only to seal the hole. Spare engine (spun bearing) included for parts, has nice high-compression pistons in it.

Transmission is functional, but has no synchro in 2nd (typical 2002 issue). Spare transmission included in similar condition. I planned to rebuild and swap. Both are standard 4-speeds. Shift linkage is sloppy, could use a rebuild as well. Clutch is near new, with only a few thousand miles on it. Pedal missing one return spring.

Exhaust is straight through with two glasspacks inline. It is quite loud.

Driveshaft support bearing whines, needs replaced. Rear diff seeps.

Has Bilstein HD shocks all around. Front springs are cut and rears sag a bit. I have a set of stock springs included. Front suspension is all polyurethane, with new tie-rods and center link. Steering box has a little play and is at full adjustment (needs rebuilt). Front alignment is off, could use some work.

New battery and wipers installed in December.

I have tons of parts for this car, from a white gauge/lighting kit to a fuel injection setup from a 318i to spare engine/transmission. I have engine parts including a couple of crankshafts, camshafts, rocker sets, a flywheel, some connecting rods, etc. all in various conditions. I have some carb pieces. Fuel injection setup is complete, with the mass air sensor, the intake with injectors, fuel rail, throttle body, etc, all of the wiring harness (it was cut at the firewall), and the coolant tubes. All it is missing is an O2 sensor, a fuel pump, and some wiring work. I have some donor body panels including the original front center kidney, and a drivers fender. I also have some of the trim logos/badges/grilles.

I have a ton of pictures of the car and most of the parts all taken within the last month, available on my Photobucket:

It may not be the prettiest car out there, but it is super fun to drive, and will put a smile on your face. I hope it can go to a good home.

2015 BMW 2 Series Cabriolet flips its lid [w/video]

Thu, 02 Oct 2014

Early next year, BMW will offer droptop versions of its entry-level 2 Series. Available in both 228i and M235i guise, the 2 Series Cabriolet will no doubt take everything we already like (and don't like) about the Twoer and add that wind-in-your-hair experience. Of course, taking in all the extra sun comes at a price - $37,900 for the 228i and $47,700 for the M235i, not including $950 for destination. Those prices represent increases of $5,800 and $4,600, respectively.
Powertrain specs are identical to the coupes, with the 228i powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four good for 240 horsepower and 255 pound-feet of torque. The more potent M235i gets BMW's turbocharged, 3.0-liter inline-six, with 320 hp and 330 lb-ft of push, and can hit 60 miles per hour in 4.8 seconds. That's with the eight-speed automatic transmission, which is available with either engine. And for those who prefer to row their own, BMW will thankfully offer a six-speed manual gearbox with both powerplants, as well.
Following the Paris Motor Show unveiling, the pair will be shown in the US at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November before hitting dealers a few months later. Have a look at the new droptop in our fresh batch of images live from the Porte de Versailles exhibition center, and read BMW's lengthy press blast, below, for all of the official information.

BMW shows 670-hp plug-in 5 Series GT concept

Sat, Dec 6 2014

BMW quietly revealed a 5 Series GT concept earlier this week at an event in France, and it sports a plug-in hybrid powertrain capable of a whopping 670 horsepower. Think the upcoming Model X crossover from Tesla sounds good? BMW has something that might be just as enticing for eco enthusiasts who like their cars to be green and mean. BMW quietly revealed a 5 Series GT concept earlier this week at an event in France, and it sports a plug-in hybrid powertrain capable of a whopping 670 horsepower. That's right, a hybrid BMW hatch-crossover with more estimated power than the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06. BMW's setup is called "Power eDrive," and it uses a 20-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery pack that provides juice for two electric motors; they work with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. This 5 Series GT would be able to travel for 62 miles under electric power. The prototype shows the high-performance potential of the system, but the 5 Series GT is "purely a concept," BMW spokesman Julian Arguelles told Autoblog. The GT made its global debut alongside plug-in versions of the 3 Series and X5. They used more basic eDrive systems with one electric motor teamed with a turbo four cylinder. BMW revealed the prototypes to illustrate its plans to increase production of plug-in hybrids. Its goal is to add plug-in variants to all of its "core-brand models," though specifics and timing are unclear. BMW Group Media information 1. BMW Group Innovation Days 2014: New drive technologies. (Introduction) The recently launched BMW i3 and BMW i8 are the first zero-emission vehicles in the premium segment, being designed respectively as dedicated all-electric and plug-in hybrid models. Their BMW eDrive technology promotes hallmark brand driving pleasure, while at the same time delivering major reductions in fuel consumption and CO2 emissions – all the way to zero tailpipe emissions when operating in all-electric mode. This is BMW Efficient Dynamics taken to its logical conclusion. For more than 15 years, the Efficient Dynamics strategy has inspired and shaped the development of new models across all the BMW Group brands, resulting in the development of highly efficient vehicles that combine dynamic performance with intelligent energy management. Today, thanks to Efficient Dynamics, the BMW and MINI brands offer premium models that set benchmarks in their respective segments in terms of their exceptional balance of performance and fuel economy.

Toyota launches BMW-powered Verso in Europe

Tue, 03 Dec 2013

BMW makes some sweet-revving engines, but its own vehicles aren't the only ones running BMW engines. So do the latest from Rolls-Royce and Mini, of course, as well as a handful of Peugeots and Citroëns thanks to its joint engine program with PSA. Wiesmann uses BMW engines, as did the famous McLaren F1. And now we can add one more to the list.
That would be the Toyota Verso, a Corolla-based minivan which Toyota builds in Turkey and sells in Europe and a few other markets overseas. The Verso is also now officially the first beneficiary of the partnership between Toyota and BMW as the Japanese automaker has released the MPV with BMW's 1.6-liter turbodiesel four.
The 111-horsepower engine is coupled to a Toyota transmission and joins the Verso range as the fourth (and least powerful) engine in the lineup, alongside the 122hp 2.0 diesel and the gasoline options with 1.6 liters and 160 hp and 1.8 for 180. Future collaborations between the two automakers will include fuel-cell development, a new joint sportscar platform, lightweight bodywork research and a new generation of lithium-air batteries. See the press release below for further details.
