1969 Bmw 2002 Chamonix White on 2040-cars

Year:1969 Mileage:56518 Color: Paint is in good condition
Location:

Avondale, Arizona, United States

Avondale, Arizona, United States

Up for auction is a 1969 BMW 2002 in Chamonix White color.
It has a 4spd manual transmission and upgraded wheels, electric sunroof, radio/MP3 player, front spoiler, etc.  The car starts and runs very well, used it as a my commuter to work for a couple months and never had an issue.  Clean and clear title is in hand, ready to transfer over to winning bidder.
I really enjoy the car but unfortunately have to sell to make room for an E30 M3...always wanted one!  Unfortunately the wife won't let me have two "fun cars", so I have to part with this one.  :)

Exterior:
  • Paint is in good condition.  Some light cracking (near the taillights), a few runs that I can see, and some areas that were missed when the previous owner had it resprayed.  The original color is Chamonix as well.  Looks great from a few feet away, but you can see some imperfections when you get closer.
  • Wheels and tires are both new.
  • Trim is mostly in good condition.  Couple dents in a few of the trim pieces, but otherwise good.

Interior:

  • Sport seats in great condition.
  • Dash has some decent cracking in it that was attempted to be repaired by previous owner.  I never minded it so just left it as-is.
  • Electric modern sunroof was added and it works very well.  The suede-like headliner was added at the same time and looks great!
  • Carpet is salt-n-pepper color and looks great as well...no wear from what I can see.
  • New steering wheel from 318 was added.  Looks good, but the turn indicators no longer turn off by themselves after turn.  Sounds like the pieces were just never connected, as you can hear them every now and then while turning.  Probably related, but the horn doesn't work either.  I never had the time to dig in there and try to resolve.

Engine/Trans/Brakes/Etc:

  • Engine runs and starts very well.  Never had a problem while commuting to work and back.
  • All gauges work, including the odometer, tachometer, etc.
  • 4spd manual transmission shifts fine, a little slop/play in the shifter but not bad
  • Headlights/taillights/turn indicators all work
  • Brakes work well, pads were replaced a couple months ago

I probably missed something, so if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
The car is located in Phoenix, AZ if you want to come take a look at it.  The car is overall in good condition.  Could use some work, of course, but for a 45 year old car looks good.  This is certainly not a "like new" or "fully restored" car, but is a nice example of one of the most iconic BMW's ever made.

Shipping will need to be paid for and handled by the buyer.  I am not liable for any damages caused by the transportation company.
$500 deposit is required within 24 hours of auction ending (PayPal will be fine for the deposit).  The remaining balance is to be paid within 3 business days via a cashiers check.  I will send the title to winning bidder once I have received full payment and then we can coordinate for pickup.

Happy bidding!

BMW V8-powered Ford Model A is the definition of Hot Rod

Thu, 20 Jun 2013

Today, hotrodding has a pretty staid definition. Take one classic American car, add one classic American V8, sprinkle with tire smoke and you pretty much have every hot rod to roll out of a shop in the last 40 years. Mike Borroughs knows it wasn't always this way. Once upon a time, getting your bucket to go faster meant grabbing whatever parts were lazing about the yard, bolting them together with a bit of ingenuity and laughing your way down the quarter mile. It's in that spirit that Burroughs built his 1928 Ford Model A.
Rather than turn to the tired flathead or the common Chevrolet small block, Burroughs plucked a 4.0-liter V8 from a 1995 BMW 7 Series. With 300 horsepower and 300 pound-feet of torque, the engine has no trouble shuffling the old A around town. He had to build a custom chassis to get everything to cooperate, but the result is a 1,500-pound heathen that looks built to harass dry lake beds. You can check it out in the video below. Be warned, the soundtrack by Hanni el Khatib may not be safe for work - awesomeness of this caliber rarely is.

Consumer Reports criticizes small turbo engines for misleading performance, fuel economy claims [w/video]

Tue, 05 Feb 2013

Consumer Reports has taken aim at at small-displacement, forced-induction engines, saying the powerplants don't manage to deliver on automaker fuel economy claims. Manufacturers have long held that smaller, turbocharged engines pack all power of their larger displacement cousins with significantly better fuel economy, but the research organization says that despite scoring high EPA economy numbers, the engines are no better than conventional drivetrains in both categories. Jake Fisher, director of automotive testing for Consumer Reports, says the forced induction options "are often slower and less fuel efficient than larger four and six-cylinder engines."
Specifically, CR calls out the new Ford Fusion equipped with the automaker's Ecoboost 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine. The institute's researchers found the engine, which is a $795 option over the base 2.5-liter four-cylinder, fails to match competitors in acceleration and served up 25 miles per gallon in testing, putting the sedan dead last among other midsize options.
The Chevrolet Cruze, Hyundai Sonata Turbo and Ford Escape 2.0T all got dinged for the same troubles, though Consumer Reports has found the turbo 2.0-liter four-cylinder in the BMW 328i does deliver on its promises. You can check out the full press release below. You can also read the full study on the Consumer Reports site, or scroll down for a short video recap.

China probing German automakers over spare parts

Sat, 26 Jul 2014

The Chinese market has proven to be a boon to German luxury automakers. However, the way that the companies have allegedly been controlling their supply of spare parts has begun to draw the ire of the nation's government. According to insiders speaking to Bloomberg, officials from the country's economic planning organization have opened a probe into Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz and some Japanese carmakers over claimed price inflation and limiting supply.
Specifically, the investigation centers around two aspects of how the companies do business, according to Bloomberg. Investigators want to know whether the original equipment component makers are able to sell spare parts only to automaker-authorized dealers or if they are also available to independent shops. There is also the issue of whether the price markup on replacement pieces is too high. The tight controls could be partially explained by China's reputation for producing counterfeit parts.
Evidently, the investigators haven't checked parts prices at car dealers elsewhere in the world. At least in the US, paying more at the dealer for factory components just goes along with owning a vehicle. If evidence of price fixing is found, the companies could face fines the equivalent of millions of dollars, according to Bloomberg.
