My 2002 Audi S8 is up for sale. Metallic Black with black leather interior. This car was on my short-list of cars to own since back in the 1990's. Upon finding one here close to me in South Florida three years ago and taking it for a test drive, I knew immediately I had found my new car. It's a true beast, without a doubt the best car I've ever owned. It still turns heads everywhere I go. The styling has aged quite well and it carries quite a presence traveling down the road.

I am the third owner and bought the car with 86,000 miles. The odometer now reads 94,873. The vehicle has spent practically its entire life here in south Florida. All services have been performed by The Collection, Audi Pembroke Pines or well known Audi independent repair facilities here in the South Florida area. I have all records from 2006 until the present and they will be included with the sale.

I am very particular about my cars (almost to a fault-ask my wife) and am trying to disclose everything I can about the automobile so that any potential buyer can feel confident in knowing what they are getting. Upon purchasing the car I knew it was due for a timing chain service (a costly procedure). This was performed immediately along with a full inspection of the car for any other preventative maintenance that could be performed. I had the following done:

     - The timing belt job mentioned above consisting of the belt itself, the dampers, levers, rollers, and serpentine belt.
     - The thermostat was also replaced at this point as a preventative measure and as it is easy to reach with the belt service being performed.
     - I also replaced the water pump and had them flush all coolant.
     - The air cleaner/element was replaced along with the cabin air filter.
     - An Audi standard 80,000 mile service check was taken care of as well (too much to type).
     - The engine oil filter was replaced along with fresh oil (100% synthetic) and new spark plugs were installed.
     - Finally, the transmission fluid, filter and gasket were all removed and replaced.

The total for this service alone was over $3,000.

The price reflects the small repairs that are needed.

-- The front left foglight is missing after the front bumper catching the pavement (a common problem with these D2 A/S8's). Also the right washer mechanism popped out at this time.

-- The drivers window regulator failed causing the window to fall off track and subsequently crack itself against the frame (again, a common problem/fault with these cars). You can see
clearly in the pictures. The glass is double paned, so there is no leakage whatsoever thankfully. I went ahead and found a donor window off a totaled S8 to replace it with along with a
new regulator. The rear drivers window had a small hairline crack at the very top corner when I bought the car (unable to be seen with the window rolled up - why I missed it originally) so
the rear window from the same donor S8 was purchased at this time.

-- The passenger mirror housing had developed a small crack from the hot sun here in south Florida and the drivers mirror motor was acting up by not automatically tilting downward when
the car was placed in reverse, so I also purchased a pair of left and right mirrors (again from the same donor S8 automobile).

-- The interior door trim is coming loose on the front driver and rear right passenger doors and will need to be corrected. An easy fix.

-- There are small nicks on the front from normal road use and a small scuff on the right rear door trim. Keep in mind that though the car has been well taken care of, it is twelve years old, so it will show light signs of wear. Just see the pictures for verification.

I was about to send the car in to get these repairs done but due to another car purchase I am willing to take a loss here. ALL PARTS I bought (front drivers window, rear drivers window, drivers window regulator, driver and passenger mirrors and front bumper washer assembly WILL BE INCLUDED in the sale price. These parts alone cost well over $1,600. Once again -- my loss, your gain.

I'm asking $12,500 though I am accepting reasonable offers. Buyer is responsible for shipping though I would be willing to help somewhat depending on your situation - communicate with me what you may need.

I should add that the car is also listed for sale locally here in the Fort Lauderdale area and I reserve the right to end this listing early.

-- So someone asked: "Why then would I sell her?"  I've decided to upgrade to a D3 W12 and would rather sell my car outright than trade her in, get a lowball price, and possibly have it end up at auction or worse. These cars deserve a loving owner who is willing to maintain them and love them. This car was on my short-list of cars to own since seeing the movie Ronin back in the 1990's. Upon finding one here close to me in South Florida three years ago and taking it for a test drive, I knew immediately I had found my new car. It's a true beast, without a doubt the best car I've ever owed. It still turns heads everywhere I go. The styling has aged quite well and it carries quite a presence traveling down the road. I will be happy to answer any and all questions you may have for me though I really have tried to be as thorough as possible here. Nevertheless, ask your questions before you bid. I don't want to deal with uncommitted bidders if at all possible. Below are further specs:

The 2014 Rolex 24 at Daytona: What we learned, what we saw

Tue, 28 Jan 2014

Two days after the flag dropped on the 2014 Rolex 24 at Daytona, people are still trying to figure out what it might portend for the rest of the season. In 24 hours, two minutes and 24 seconds, 695 laps were completed by the car that crossed the line first. During that time, 67 cars began the race, 18 of them retired. There was that accident, and a red flag. There were supposedly slower classes beating supposedly faster classes. There were 16 caution periods, including that yellow flag. And then there was The Decision. And Then The Uproar. And then The Reversal.
There was also some pretty good racing, so let's have one last look at the weekend. Oh, and there was that 1964 Ferrari 250 GTO Series II...
If you want to skip the reading bits and go to the photos, there's a high-res gallery of 158 images above and a couple more below. Enjoy.

Audi Prologue concept goes for A9, we give it a ten

Wed, 19 Nov 2014

If you've been waiting for Audi to roll out a new design language, you need wait no longer as Ingolstadt is displaying just that at the Los Angeles Auto Show this year with the Prologue concept you see here.
Penned by Audi's new design chief Marc Lichte, the Prologue is earmarked to introduce a shift (if not quite a complete change) in design direction for the German automaker. The trapezoidal grille sits wider and lower than on existing models, with the wedge-shaped laser headlights positioned higher above new air intakes with blade elements. The profile rests balanced across its wheelbase to visually emphasize the all-wheel drive that is part of Audi's DNA, with flared arches inspired by the legendary Ur-Quattro. The rear section is inspired by yachts, angled forward to suggest motion, with a narrow strip of LED taillights, full-width diffuser element and twin trapezoidal exhaust tips.
Inside it's all light and surgically clean, with a horizontal dashboard integrating four touchscreen displays running its full width. The system even allows the passenger to select the route for the navigation system and swipe it on over to the driver's display. The headrests on the rear seats and the "sound spoiler" on the rear shelf deploy only when needed, unobstructing the rear view when not.

Weekly Recap: Car-pedestrian crashes remained elevated in 2014

Sat, Feb 28 2015

The death of American Horror Story: Freak Show star Ben Woolf served as a reminder this week that car crashes involving pedestrians remain a problem, and a new study issued on Thursday reinforced that the situation isn't really getting better. The Governors Highway Safety Association found a slight decline, 2.8 percent, in the number of pedestrian deaths in the first six months of 2014. Fatalities dropped from 2,141 to 2,125 compared with the same period in 2013, though the association says it's a statistical wash when factoring in undercounting. Deaths are still 15-percent higher than in 2009. "The number of deaths remains relatively high and is cause for concern," wrote Allan Williams, who compiled the report and is the former chief scientist at the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. This is the first look at data from last year, and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration will issue its full-year results later. The GHSA found some progress on the roadways, as 24 states and the District of Columbia reported drops in pedestrian deaths. In some states, the problem isn't even a problem at all: Nebraska and Wyoming reported one fatality apiece, though large population centers in urban areas are where most accidents occur. "This is a clearly a good news, bad news scenario," Jonathan Adkins, GHSA executive director, said in a statement. "While we're encouraged that pedestrian fatalities haven't increased over the past two years, progress has been slow." Other News & Notes Cadillac previews CT6 during Oscars Cadillac previewed its upcoming flagship sedan, the CT6, in commercials that aired Sunday during the Oscars. As expected, the creased sedan carries on Cadillac's recent design language, and the car in the commercial looks like a larger version of the CTS and ATS sedans. The CT6 will be revealed this spring at the New York Auto Show and launch late this year. It will be assembled at General Motors' Detroit-Hamtramck factory on a rear-wheel-drive chassis, and the CT6 is the first car to use Cadillac's revised alpha-numeric naming scheme. The commercials also kicked off Cadillac's "Dare Greatly" campaign, which is the first with its new advertising agency, Publicis Worldwide. Honda unexpectedly changes CEOs Honda unexpectedly announced this week that it will change CEOs. Current chief Takanobu Ito will step down in June and be replaced by company veteran Takahiro Hachigo.
