Audi Allroad Shooting Brake showcar is a 124-MPGe hybrid E-Tron

The leaked images of the new Audi Allroad Shooting Brake that came out Friday showed us what the show car will look like, but it wasn't until the official press release came out today that we learned just how much E-Tron is hiding in its powertrain. Turns out, it's a lot. An 8.8-kWh lithium-ion battery can power the car for over 31 miles. The Allroad Shooting Brake is powered by a hybrid (gas-electric) powertrain that can put out a total of 300 kW of power (479.42 pound feet of torque) and, under the right circumstances, get the fuel efficiency equivalent of 123.8 mpg US, Audi claims. The gas side is made up of a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine, and then there's an electric motor on each axle. An 8.8-kWh lithium-ion battery can power the car for over 31 miles on battery power alone. There are three drive modes (EV, Hybrid and Sport). This is also the first time Audi has put its Allroad and E-Tron "form languages" together, which means this E-Tron Quattro "is not limited to paved roads" and can handle "light off-road conditions." The two electric motors help bring the car from 0-62 miles per hour in 4.6 seconds on up to a top speed of 155 mph. Audi has paid attention to shaving weight from the 3527-pound, four-seater, including making the wheels out of carbon-fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) and using an aluminum underbody panel. We described some of the concept's visual hints in the original post (Q1?), and now Audi says that the car contains "a host of visual elements of future sports car models" (TT?). We will get our first real glimpse of the Allroad Shooting Brake show car at the Detroit Auto Show early this week, so look for live pics then, especially of the interior that is supposed to be reminiscent of an airplane and a user interface panel that is said to work like a smart phone. In the new press release, Audi's Ulrich Hackenberg said the Allroad Shooting Brake represents, "a concrete look into the near future," and we're totally fine with that. 1984 Audi Sport Quattro expected to hammer at nearly half a million dollars

The highest prices paid at automobile auctions continue to be claimed by European sports cars, with names like Ferrari and Bugatti forever topping the lists. But what we have here is not quite a sports car. It's more of a hot hatch, but its still expected to fetch between $350,000 and $475,000 when it goes up for auction next month in Arizona. That's because this is no ordinary hot hatch... it's the prototypical hot hatch: the legendary Audi Sport Quattro, one of the most maniacal and dominant homologated rally machines ever devised. Shorter in wheelbase and dartier of handling than the Ur-Quattro that came before it, the later Sport Quattro was built to comply to with the FIA's legendary Group B regulations. That meant that it competed with the likes of the Lancia 037, Ford RS200 and Ferrari 288 GTO – beating them all in the World Rally Championship one after another – but also had to be built in limited quantities and sold to the public. And so Audi and its nascent Quattro GmbH skunkworks division built 214 road-going examples of the Sport Quattro, and this could very well be the most immaculate example in existence. It was previously owned by noted collector Yoshikuni Okamoto of Kobe, Japan, and with barely more than 5,000 miles on the odometer, recently underwent an exhaustive service at Audi of Fairfield, CT – one of the company's largest dealerships – and though the Sport Quattro was never offered for sale in the US, this one is now fully registered for use on American roads and comes in impeccable condition despite its 30 years of age. The gavel drops during the RM Auctions event at the Arizona Biltmore on January 15-16, 2015. Even the low end of the pre-auction estimate is nearly double the $184,860 which Sports Car Market reports Bonhams sold an '85 Audi Sport Quattro in September 2013. XCAR shows how Audi engineers let loose with A1 Quattro

In its ultimate mortal guise, the Audi A1 Black Edition - the littlelest little guy Audi makes - costs 22,340 pounds ($33,705 US) in the UK and comes with a turbocharged 1.4-liter four-cylinder that outputs, at most, 182 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. The Audi A1 Quattro - still employing the body of the littlelest little guy Audi makes - costs more than 41,020 pounds ($61,888 US) gets a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder from the Audi TTS with 252 hp and 258 lb-ft. And quattro. And 17-inch, center-locking, white wheels.
The crew at XCAR gets the A1 Quattro on video, to both question how the A1 Quattro happened and then to praise it even if they never found the answer. The hosannas come too late for anyone in the UK who was waffling about buying one, however, since all 19 meant for the 'sceptered isle are sold out.
