Vehicle Overview
Audi's Q7 sport utility vehicle is the German automaker's first foray into the SUV market and is a competitor with fellow luxury SUVs like the Porsche Cayenne and Volvo XC90. This Q7 comes with a seven-seat configuration and is equipped with a V-8 engine.

Exterior
The Q7 is a comparatively low-slung SUV that features traditional Audi styling. A prominent grille with Audi's four-ring badging dominates the front end, and sloping D-pillars give its appearance a coupelike feel. The wheelbase measures 118.3 inches, which is nearly 6 inches longer than the related Volkswagen Touareg's.

Interior
The Q7 features three-row seating for up to seven occupants, and both rear seats fold flat to provide additional storage space. This car has the leather seat upgrade. The ignition switch is located on the dashboard directly to the right of the steering wheel. The Q7 features Audi's Multi Media Interface. The MMI system consists of a console knob and buttons and a dashboard display screen used to control things like vehicle settings, the navigation system and the stereo.

Under the Hood
Audi puts a premium on performance with the 350-hp, 4.2-liter V-8 engine. A six-speed-automatic transmission and permanent all-wheel drive are standard.

Safety
The Q7 has standard side-impact airbags for the front seats, three-row side curtain airbags and an electronic stability system. This car also has parking assistance with a rearview camera.

NHTSA awards Audi A3 and S3 sedans five stars

Mon, Dec 29 2014

The Audi A3 and S3 sedans aced the New Car Assessment Program tests run by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, each scoring five stars overall. The A3 sedan adds this latest five-star rating to its Top Safety Pick+ award bestowed upon it by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety earlier this year, and Audi says it's the only Euro premium luxury compact to do that double. The only place either car dropped a single star was for a male driver in the frontal barrier test and in the rollover test. It's clear from the lengthening list of top marks – and its list of safety technology – that it's among the safest sedans you can buy. Audi prices 2014 A8L TDI from $82,500*

Thu, 31 Jan 2013

During the Los Angeles Auto Show last November, Audi told us that it would be bringing four new diesel-powered models to the United States this year. The first to arrive is the 2014 A8L TDI you see here, and we've now learned that the big oil-sipper will be priced from $82,500, (*excluding $895 for destination).
The whole new range of diesel models will be powered by Audi's 3.0-liter TDI V6, good for 240 horsepower and 406 pound-feet of torque in this application. Of course, Quattro all-wheel drive is standard, and even in the big A8, the diesel grunt will be enough to propel the long-wheelbase flagship to 60 miles per hour in 6.4 seconds (almost a full second slower than the A8 3.0T we reviewed last fall). That said, the A8 TDI should still be a pretty engaging steer, and considering the fact that this thing will reportedly return fuel economy figures of up to 36 miles per gallon on the highway (24 in the city), a slightly slower launch time is well worth it. (The A8 3.0T tops out at 28 mpg highway.)
Elsewhere in the segment, Mercedes-Benz offers a diesel version of its S-Class flagship, retailing for $93,000 and good for fuel economy figures of 21/31 mpg city/highway. By comparison, the A8 TDI seems like a steal, and we'll be interested to see where the forthcoming BMW 7 Series diesel falls into the class of huge oil-burning barges.

The Volkswagen Group switches official language to English

Wed, Dec 14 2016

The Volkswagen Group can't be fairly thought of as entirely German anymore, so the news that the company is switching its official language to English to help attract managers and executives is a rational, if surprising, decision. While many VW Group companies are still staidly German in character and culture, consider the other companies that it controls: Bentley (British), Bugatti (French), Ducati and Lamborghini (Italian), Skoda (Czech), Scania trucks (Swedish), and SEAT (Spanish). Not to mention the large Volkswagen Group of America operation, which constructs cars in Chattanooga, TN. Volkswagen's explicit motivation is to improve management recruitment – making sure the company isn't losing out on candidates for important positions because they can't speak German – and that's inherently sensible in a globalized economy. Particularly considering, like it or lump it, that English is the lingua franca of said global economy. It also should make it inherently easier to communicate between its world-wide subsidiaries and coordinate operations. It's hard to say for sure if this will have any impact on the consumer, although it's easy to see the benefits if, say, VW Group hires some American product planners or engineers and they push for features and designs that more closely suit American needs. After all, the US is a hugely important market for any manufacturer, and so the switch to English almost certainly has something to do with the outsized influence of the US in the global economy. And there doesn't seem to be a downside from a purely rational perspective, although it could mean that the Group's corporate culture becomes less German. Whether that's a good or a bad thing depends on your perspective.
