2007 Audi Q7 Quattro Allroad Loaded Navigation Panoramic Roof Clean Premium! on 2040-cars
Jacksonville, Florida, United States
With the launch of the 2007 Audi Q7, Audi
proves that it's either a maverick or completely clueless when it comes to
current automotive trends. A big gas-guzzling 4x4 SUV in 1996, yes, but in
2006? Crossovers are the current hot trend. Of course, this is not to say that
Audi can't build a big 4x4 SUV. From our experience with the Q7, Audi can build
a very fine SUV, which is not at all surprising given Audi's legendary quattro
all-wheel-drive system. And those Audi fans who have been waiting years for an
SUV, no matter how few they may be, finally get what they want. In our test period
with the 2007 Audi Q7, we went through alternating fits of love and frustration
with the car. We could complain about the acceleration hesitation from the big
4.2-liter V-8, then wax poetic about the luxurious interior. Immediately after
cursing the navigation system, we would praise the car's highway manners. The
Q7 is a seriously mixed bag, with many good points offset by many minor and
major faults. The exterior of
the Q7 captures this SUV's schizophrenic nature--a nicely curved roofline makes
it look like a wagon from the side, but a massive front fascia surrounding
brawny grill, headlights, and vents hints at bulldozer from the front. Our Q7
came with 20-inch five-spoke alloy rims, which gave it a refined sense of
sturdiness. The bulbous rear end of the car has a space-age feel, added to by
the power-lift gate, which opens and closes at the push of a button. The
mother of all sunroofs Our Q7 came with
the mother of all sunroofs as a $1,850 option. It stretches over the front and
middle rows of seats and has a powered interior cover. And there's another,
smaller sunroof over the cargo area that can be tipped up with a button in the
front roof console. No, cargo does not need a view through the roof--it's for
the two jump seats that fold flat into the cargo area. The middle row also
folds flat, making a pretty large cargo area. Because our Q7 came with the
$2,600 adaptive air suspension option, a button in the cargo area lowers the
car for easier loading, although we didn't find the car terribly high up to
begin with. Features of this vehicle include: ·

Recharge Wrap-up: Audi A4 TDI in US, Local Motors' 3D EV sales
Thu, Jul 9 2015Local Motors plans to begin selling its 3D-printed electric cars in 2016. The Arizona-based startup will begin by selling a neighborhood electric vehicle, called the Reload Redacted, in the first quarter of 2016, with a full-speed version to follow. The design for the car, submitted by Kevin Lo, was chosen by a panel from a pool of entries. The company plans to set up microfactories to build the cars at a fraction of the cost of setting up a traditional automotive manufacturing facility. Now, Local Motors is looking at ways to quicken the 3D-printing process, a task that currently takes days for a single vehicle. Read more at NBC News, or in a blog post from Local Motors. Audi will bring a diesel variant of the A4 to the US for the first time as a 2017 model. The new A4 is slated to go on sale in March of 2016. In addition to the gasoline-powered 2.0-liter TFSI motor, the A4 will be available with a 2.0-liter turbocharged diesel motor, providing 190 horsepower and 236 pound-feet of torque, mated to a seven-speed S Tronic dual-clutch transmission. Production 4.0: Audi plans for the smart factory
Tue, Jul 21 2015Automotive production is becoming more integrated and at the same time has to be more intelligent and more efficient. Flexible production of customized vehicles is one of the big challenges for the future, especially for a premium carmaker like Audi. How will the "Vorsprung durch Technik" brand meet its aim of offering premium quality with added custom flexibility? The company sees the "smart factory" as the key. Whether it's body-color moldings or light-alloy wheels in a special size, almost every car is ordered with some kind of customization, and the demands are increasing. This requires of course already a lot of flexibility. While the variety of models and quality demands are increasing, automotive manufacturers such as Audi are eager to make production sustainable. In an Audi interview, innovation management members Alois Brandt and Henning Loser talk about "production 4.0" and the upcoming "smart factory." How will Audi manage the production site with its very high standards of quality, efficiency, and environmental acceptability? Will the so-called "smart factory," which should be the intelligent factory of the future, only employ robots? Alois Brandt: "With a deep look into the production, I am convinced that our employees and not machines are the relevant working forces behind the Audi brand. Machines can be bought anywhere." Increasing digitalization is paving the way for the smart factory – the intelligent, digitally connected production facility. New high-tech solutions in manufacturing should further increase the high level of quality, while at the same time the assembly work should be easier and result in better ergonomics. Can you give us a clearer imagination of the "smart factory"? Alois Brandt: "There are a lot of ideas. But the big question at the moment is: Which one is really needed and leads into the right direction?" Can you tell us a little bit more about "production 4.0"? Alois Brandt: "The assembly line as we know it in the present will no longer play the same role. If it makes sense, it will be terminated and replaced by – let's call it – a virtual assembly line. The production will be more modular than before and the car will be directed to a production point – a so-called 'island of competence' – where it is needed." Henning Loser: "If the vehicle is to be assembled to the customer's wishes, it is obvious that efficient programming of robots and coordinating with the human workers is needed.
Audi reveals S3 Cabriolet ahead of Geneva debut
Wed, 19 Feb 2014It used to be if you wanted an Audi S3, your choices in bodystyle came down to hatchback or... hatchback. That is, in markets where the model was offered at all. But Audi has been expanding the A3 global family upon which the S3 is based, and it intends to offer the performance-minded derivative as a three-door hatch, five-door hatch, four-door sedan and - with the introduction of the version you see here - a two-door convertible.
Set to be presented in public for the first time at the Geneva Motor Show early next month, the new Audi S3 Cabriolet packs the same 2.0-liter turbo four as its fixed-roof counterparts - all 290 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of it - but ditches the extra doors and the tin top in favor of the two-door cabriolet bodystyle of the A3 Cabriolet.
The added weight of the folding fabric roof mechanism and the extra body reinforcement required means that the S3 cabrio takes half a second more to reach 62 miles per hour from a standstill than it would take the sedan version, clocking the run at 5.4 seconds instead of 4.9. This, despite more generous use of magnesium, aluminum and high-strength steel in its construction. Top speed, as is the German custom, remains pinned at 155 mph.
