We're going to skip the joke - because this isn't one - and get straight to the punchline: If the forthcoming 2014 Mercedes-Benz S-Class looks like it will lead the segment in interiors, the 3.0-liter turbodiesel in the 2014 Audi A8 L TDI takes the head of the table when it comes to engines.
After joining Audi for the 12 Hours of Sebring, we stood in the parking lot of The Inn On The Lakes on Sunday morning, our thousand-yard stare interrupted by the Citgo gas station across the street. We had one key, three bags, one white A8 L TDI, something like 17 gallons of diesel in the tank and one week to burn through it. For the purposes of a Quick Spin, we could have simply traipsed around the central Florida outback, all citrus, dusty scrubland and diners lifted from Cronenberg films, made short work of measuring the refinement and potential rarefaction of the oil burner under the hood and made our way back to the Orlando airport.
But dear readers, where would the adventure be in that?

Audi Recalling Nearly 102,000 Cars To Fix Air Bags

Audi is recalling nearly 102,000 luxury cars in the U.S. because the front air bags may not inflate in a crash. The recall covers certain A4 and S4 cars from the 2013 through 2015 model years, plus the 2013 through 2015 Audi allroad. Audi says that it is part of a wider global recall that the company announced last week covering about 850,000 vehicles from the 2013 to 2015 model years. Dealers will update an improperly programmed air bag control module to fix the problem sometime this month. Audi said that in rare cases the air bags may not inflate in a secondary impact. That can increase the risk of injury. No crashes or injuries have been reported in the U.S. or Europe, an Audi spokesman said. But the company is checking a small number of cases in Europe to see if they are linked to air bag programming. Audi Sport Quattro Concept makes video debut

Audi has stayed quiet about its Sport Quattro Concept since the 700-horsepower, tangerine rocket debuted at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show - a followup to Quattro Concept shown at the 2010 Paris Motor Show. Now, Audi has broken the plug-in hybrid out to give thanks to its Facebook fans, which now number over 100,000 strong (103,123 as of this writing).
As impressive as that number is, it does seem a bit strange that Audi USA's Facebook page has netted 7.3 million likes, 73 times what Audi's global page has received. Of course, we're not complaining about seeing the Sport Quattro Concept in action, and neither should you. Take a look below for the entire video.
