1998 Audi A6 Quattro Avant For Parts - Complete Not Running on 2040-cars
Glen Rock, Pennsylvania, United States
This car is for parts only, it does not start, the title is void, the owner has died (see below for details).
I purchased this vehicle from a friend about 2 years ago. He picked it up from a neighbor of his in July of 2010 and never titled the car while he attempted to fix it. Story is the car ran when it was parked and would not start again. New crank sensor was installed, no luck, several other things checked, couldn't find the issue. I found out about it and having a love of older Audi's, I always love a challenge, especially when you can pick one up cheap enough to usually turn around and fix with a bit of prudence. Well, I had a kid, have a demanding job and have narrowed down the issue but not able to solve it and the car needs to go. I installed a new cam position sensor and flywheel tooth sensor because the car is not getting spark or fuel pulses. I was getting spark but that went away during a diag procedure, go figure. I've also tried another ECM (comes with original and spare unit), with no luck. I can read and perform diags on the ecm's and all the available modules in the car but can't get it to fire the injectors. I do get voltage to the fuel system but it's not liking what it sees I guess. I'm thinking either the crank position that was installed was not put in right or is wrong/bad, or the cams are out of time enough. I've seen several cases where the cams slip on this motor. I don't have the tool to set the timing and I just can't get the time and don't want to put any more money into the car. Now comes the other major issue; the title. The title is NOT Transferable. I have the title, it is a duplicate, signed by the original owner, over to the previous owner (who never titled it) and handed it over to me. I never noticed or gave though to it that he used white out on the title.....I just looked at the title briefly and he just didn't know any better. I thought the title was just signed over (Maryland title, you only need to sign it over, no notary required) and I would just have to process it. I did some checking and followed up with my buddy and come to find out, the original owner died! We're unable to find anyone that has power of attorney or any other way to straighten this out easily through the Maryland Motor Vehicles Administration either. You can not process a title with any trace of white out on it and I even tried ever so carefully to remove the whiteout tape with no luck. This car is for parts only, I will turn over the title that I have with a bill of sale. It does have some paint issues, dent on the hood, scratches, flaking, etc....the interior is not the best or worst. The windows were left cracked in the end of a not so weather tight garage and resulted in the bottom front seats getting ruined. The upper seat backs of the front and all of the rear seats are in good shape, no tears there. Power features all work, memory too. Stereo is not working, has Bose system with 6 disc remote changer (might be related to the starting issue, seen weirder things on an Audi/VW!). Has the rear facing third row seat. Tires and wheels are in good shape, lots of tread, some cracking from sitting. I have all the shrouds, belts, belly pans, and pieces that were taken off while diagnosing the car as well. I can load it and tow it on my trailer for $0.50/mile within reason. I would just part out the car and probably double my money but I don't have the time. If it doesn't sell, it's going to the scrap yard, I'm not selling individual parts off it right now, so please don't ask. |

Audi stealthily tests RS4 Avant
Thu, Oct 29 2015With S3s, R8s and RS7s aplenty, Audi offers no shortage of performance models in North America. But one of our favorites is always kept just out of arm's reach. That of course is the RS4 Avant, and here we see Audi Quattro GmbH testing the latest version. Though it may look like a plain old S4 – and even wear S4 badges – the wider fenders and bigger wheels suggest that this is in fact a prototype for the upcoming RS4 Avant. For those unfamiliar, that nameplate connotes the best of all worlds within the A4 range: maximum power, maximum traction, and maximum luggage space. All the ingredients, in short, to make us wonder why anyone would rather drive a crossover. After the first-gen RS4 employed a twin-turbo V6, the subsequent two generations went with a 4.2-liter V8. This model, however, could adopt an electric turbocharger setup to give it all the power it needs (and then some) with a new form of hybrid setup that will soon be spreading across the industry. The bigger question on our mind, of course, is whether the new performance wagon will make the transatlantic voyage to North American showrooms. We're holding out hope that Ingolstadt may make a real run down American roads at the likes of the Mercedes-AMG C63 and BMW M3. Whether it brings the wagon body-style along with it is another matter entirely, but we can always dream. Related Video:
2014 Audi S1 Quattro [w/video]
Fri, 21 Mar 2014Audi may only now be fully committing to the US compact car market with a range of A3 models, but it's got far more small car expertise than most Americans realize, and its offerings get even tinier, too. Back in 2010, Audi leapt into the subcompact premium fray - in all markets but the United States, Canada and China - with its A1. The A1 family has sold all right, but not quite as well as was expected, likely due to its price when optioned up. (It also doesn't help that the Volkswagen Polo is a great car on the same architecture and costs much less.)
But Audi seems compelled to make high-buck S trims of everything nowadays, so right on schedule, I've scored seat time in its new S1 Quattro. Under its gumdrop-colored hood is the very popular 2.0-liter TFSI motor. In this trim, it's good for 228 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque between 1,600 and 3,000 rpm. That's quite a lot of gumption for this little blaster - enough power for 0-60 in just 5.7 seconds.
My drive was originally supposed happen on a sub-zero frozen lake in Sweden, only Audi forgot to call Mother Nature and ask her to hold off on springtime. It would have turned into a slush drive and then a submarine test had I been told to stick to the original plan, so it was dusty, soggy and gravel-y pavement instead, which turned out to be a better real-world test anyhow. Plus, the car got even cuter when it was filthy.
Audi pits Star Trek's new Spock versus the original
Tue, 07 May 2013The only thing that makes a sci-fi geek happier than William Shatner and Patrick Stewart in the same room is when two Spocks collide. Audi has somehow managed to do just that ahead of the release of the second film in this historic franchise's new go-round called Star Trek Into Darkness, which opens in theaters nationwide on May 17th.
We won't spoil the fun (you can, and should, watch it yourself below), suffice it say that the original Spock, Leonard Nimoy, steals the show from the franchise's new Spock, Zachary Quinto. The short video has the two Vulcans battling wits in a series of challenges that quickly comes to involve cars, but Audi manages to outwit them both in the final scene by leaving these logical beings with an emotion that resembles amazement.
This is the second summer blockbuster that Audi has tied its four rings to, the other being Iron Man 3. Whereas Tony Stark's garage and the Marvel universe have more Audis per square mile than people, we aren't expecting to see an Audi logo on the warp drive of the USS Enterprise in this latest Trek tale.
