I picked this car up with a broken cam chain tensioner and went ahead and just replaced the motor with a lower mileage one, with the intention of using it as a DD/Winter beater. Long story short, now have a company car so I dont need it.

It is a 98 Quattro 5 speed avant with tan leather interior. It has 193,350 miles. It is loaded, leather, power seat, sunroof, heated seats, 6 disc CD changer (buy it for this if for nothing else).

It drives straight and true, good power, no smoking whatsoever, shifts great as well. Clutch had good life when I pulled the motor. It is however, not without its faults.

On to the good:
- 120K miles on motor, TB done 15K ago
- New battery
- Tie rod ends 10k ago (suspension feels solid)
- Spark plugs
- Coolant flush, fresh oil change
- Replaced all vacuum lines
- Tires have a lot tread, some outer wear on DSF before TRE were replaced.
- Interior is pretty mint minus the armrest is missing the top part.

The Bad:
- Dings and scratches, was rear ended at low speed, rear bumper is scratched and rear hatch dented.
- Rear hatch key hole is broke but still operates/locks normally just cant lock it manually with key.
- Front lip on passenger side is missing about a 3" portion.
- Rear brakes need to be replaced (in the process of repairing this).
- Ebrake need to be adjusted, might just be that the rear brakes are toast.
- Airbag light is on, no VAG codes so it might be the somewhat common B5 issue.
- Wipers are on the fritz, they work but when you go to shut them off they return to the bottom position and then pop halfway up the windsheild. Might be a relay? Havent investigated much.

I work on it as I can, so some things might be resolved by the time you see this.

Audi to unveil S1 hot hatch at Geneva Motor Show

Tue, 21 Jan 2014

Audi has been toying with the idea of a hot hatch based on the A1 premium city car for some time now. It rolled out the 500-horsepower A1 Clubsport Quattro concept at the Wörthersee gathering a couple of years ago, then put its form (with half the power) into limited production with the 252hp A1 Quattro (pictured above) shortly thereafter. What it hasn't done is offer a mainstream S1 that people can actually get their hands on, but that's all about to change.
Following spy shots of numerous prototypes, Auto Express claims to have it on good authority that the new S1 will be unveiled at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show in March. Though likely less aggressive in its visual impact, the S1 is expected to get almost as much power as the aforementioned A1 Quattro, with a 2.0-liter turbo 4-cylinder sourced from the larger S3 but detuned to 230 hp.
A six-speed dual-clutch transmission is expected to drive all four wheels - something for which the platform was not originally designed but was later adapted to accommodate - though the availability of a six-speed manual remains in question. Unfortunately the A1 was never destined for the North American market, so as much as we might want one (and as much as Ingolstadt may be motivated to take a bite out of the Mini market), we wouldn't expect to see it roaring into American showrooms.

Audi A7 Sportback H-Tron Quattro packs plug-in hydrogen powertrain

Thu, Nov 20 2014

If you think a plug-in diesel hybrid is an expensive proposition, just wait until you hear details about the just-revealed Audi A7 Sportback H-Tron Quattro. The "H" in H-Tron, as you might guess, stands for hydrogen, so say hello to a new concept that combines a plug-in battery system with a hydrogen fuel cell. Yeah, exactly. Let's start with the numbers. On the plug-in side, the new H-Tron has an 8.8-kWh lithium-ion battery that can power the car for up to 31 miles on battery power. With electric motors on both axles – it's a Quattro, after all, but a through-the-road hybrid with electronic torque distribution management – the A7 H-Tron uses a hydrogen fuel cell and four (!) H2 tanks to offer about 62 miles per gallon equivalent. Audi says the overall fuel cell stack efficiency is "as high as 60 percent" while the electric motors operate at 95 percent efficiency. Efficiently turning all of that electricity into movement means the A7 Sportback H-Tron Quattro has a total power output of 398.3 pound-feet of torque. The 4,299-pound concept can allegedly go from 0-62 miles per hour in 7.9 seconds and has a top speed of 112 mph. The car's total range is 311 miles. The A7 H-Tron is not the first plug-in hydrogen vehicle concept. That title goes to the Ford HySeries Edge. Mazda also considered putting a hydrogen range extender in the Mazda5 plug-in van. The Audi A7 Sportback h-tron quattro It sprints from 0 to 100 km/h (62.1 mi) in 7.9 seconds and on to a top speed of 180 km/h (111.8 mph). It covers over 500 kilometers (310.7 mi) on one tank of fuel – and its exhaust emits nothing more than a few drops of water: The A7 Sportback h-tron quattro, which Audi is unveiling at the Los Angeles Auto Show 2014, uses a powerful, sporty electric drive with a fuel cell as its energy source that operates in combination with a hybrid battery and an additional electric motor in the rear. The overall electrical system power of 170 kW is transferred to both the front and the rear wheels. This drive configuration makes the emission-free Audi A7 Sportback* a quattro through and through – a new departure in fuel cell cars. "The A7 Sportback h-tron quattro is a genuine Audi – at once sporty and efficient. Conceived as an e-quattro, its two electric motors drive all four wheels," explained Prof. Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg, Member of the Board of Management for Technical Development at Audi. "The h-tron concept car shows that we have mastered fuel cell technology.

Audi takes cars that park themselves to a whole new level

Fri, 11 Jan 2013

Autonomous cars are impressive displays of in-car technology, but what exactly would the benefit of such systems be for the average driver? Audi has answered that question by showing off its Piloted Parking system for the Audi Connect at CES 2013.
Installed on this Audi A7, Piloted Parking allows a driver to drop themselves off and have the car autonomously drive away on its own and find its own parking spot. The car can then later be retrieved by "calling" it back with a specially designed smartphone app. We'd be lying if we said this didn't bring back memories of Michael Knight summoning KITT with his wristwatch. The most impressive part of this car might be the fact that the car is fully autonomous but doesn't have any obvious sensors or monitors on the exterior of the car like many other self-driving cars have.
Check out a video of the this innovative technology in action after the jump.
