The 2.0T comes standard with a great six-speed manual gearbox that has light and easy clutch action. Audi's Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG) is a $1,480 option, and is based on technology pioneered in their Le Mans winning racecars. The DSG shifts either automatically or with the pull of a steering column-mounted paddle, and it always has the next gear ready for quick engagement..Audi has done an outstanding job with the exterior and interior of the A3. All body panels boasted tight seams and comely lines, and the interior materials were all top notch. The amount of standard equipment the A3 has is outstanding. Dual zone automatic climate control helps eliminate disagreements over interior temperatures, and an AM/FM/CD stereo provides good tunes.Standard safety equipment includes antilock circuitry on all four disc brakes, and brake assist helps give full braking power for panic stops. The electronic stability program helps keep the A3 planted. Front, side, and head curtain air bags protect occupants in the event of a collision.The ride and handling compromise is perfect for the A3's intended mission. The car can be pressed quite hard through the corners, yet the ride from the 225/45R17 tires is not punishing. While the back seat is not enormous, there is plenty of room for a family with two growing children.Audi's execution is first rate, and all in all the A3 delivers a quality driving experience in a shapely package. |

Lamborghini agrees to produce Urus in Italy
Tue, May 26 2015The Lamborghini Urus is apparently on the way, and it looks like it will be built in Italy. The news comes from Bloomberg, which claims Lambo CEO Stephan Winkelmann and Audi CEO Rupert Stadler will be joined by Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi on Wednesday to announce a series of tax breaks to bring SUV production to Italy. The report cites multiple "people familiar with the matter." The details of the deal include up to 500 new jobs in exchange for $87 million in tax breaks along with "other benefits," according to Bloomberg. Just over a year ago, it was looking like Urus production was headed for Slovakia, where it'd be built alongside its MLB platform-mates, the Audi Q7, Volkswagen Touareg, and Porsche Cayenne. News of Italy's bid surfaced this spring. We'll be sure to keep an eye out for any official news as it becomes available. Related Video:
Audi reveals new TT spec racer
Mon, 20 Oct 2014We've seen the coupe. We've seen the convertible. We're still waiting on word of the next variant, but before it arrives, Audi has revealed the racing version of the new TT.
Set to form the backbone of the inaugural Audi Sport TT Cup, the competition-spec sports coupe is closely based on the production version packs the same 2.0-liter turbo four and six-speed dual-clutch transmission as the road-going TTS, delivering the same 310 horsepower, but with a push-to-pass boost of an extra 30 hp.
It's also got an active differential, and while the full specifications have not yet been revealed, it's clear that Audi has also outfitted the TT racer with more aggressive aero, track-spec rolling stock and a stripped-out cockpit (complete with the Audi PS1 Safety Seat from the R8 LMS Ultra) to get weight down to from 2,700 pounds in stock production form to 2,480.

Fri, May 1 2015In the cold light of reality, it's a fairly dubious proposition to suggest that the Audi RS3 Sportback shares much of a mechanical relationship with an R8. One of them is supercar with a snorting V10 and lithe body, while the other is a still-capable hot hatch with roots lower in the brand's range. However, marketing doesn't necessarily have to sell real life, and Audi's advertisers are nailing the emotional pull of these two models in a spot called Birth. With dramatic music and a sci-fi aesthetic, the R8's V10 roars as the supercar stretches and deforms, and eventually the hot hatch gets plucked from its metallic loins. Regardless of how closely these two models are related, this commercial looks and sounds fantastic. With the US rumored to get the RS3 in sedan form at some point, hopefully we get a tweaked version of this ad.
