1984 4000 quattro.
 Excellent example.
Third owner.
First two owners doctors.

I've had it since 60k miles and 15 years, odometer broken and mileage is approximate. H&r/bilstien sport suspension, great match that is a decent ride balance and match, never bottoms out, handles great. Synthetic oil in motor and diffs since new. Recent clutch and heater core, clutch has fantastic feel and modulation, best clutch in any car I've driven. 20k since head gasket, engine mods including throttle body bore, warm up flap in airbox removed with cold air tube added, high compression with shaved head, turbo cam, pulls well from 4500 to 5600 well with plenty of torque below. Interior as nice as you can find with very low wear on drivers seat. Slightly whiny diff(for 10 years now, mostly in fourth) and needs a cv boot(probably joint too, get a slight imbalance at 85mph when turning one direction but not the other), slight hiss noise on deceleration in first, third, fifth (mostly third) that cuts out when clutch disengaged, not sure if it's a problem or not, maybe low on fluid but I doubt it.  Replaced front passenger fender with used after fender bender long ago and it's not a perfect match but not bad.  A/c worked once and leaked out, think it needs new seals.  I forget when w/p and timing belt were done.  Doesn't lock, one lock needs the old lock cylinder because handle replaced (got it somewhere) and I think the other needs to be hooked up to the handle, both easy fixes; one of the interior rear pass door lock pins is out, I have it but not sure how it goes back in. Rear subframe bushing are worn and allow a little movement.  On extreme angles and full droop of rear suspension, I think the coils are too short and will make a little noise moving around, worse on drivers side, possibly due to subframe bushings( I think the worst subframe bushing is the driver rear, may be the only one that moves), possible fix is the factory coil pads that I believe got removed when suspension was installed, been like this for years and not a problem but I always wanted to get it fixed. Actually I haven''t been driving it much the last five years but I've been driving around all week and the rear suspension noise seems to be getting better, I'm having a hard time getting it to make the sound last couple days. Tires have tread but have sidewall cracking. Diffs don't engage but should just be a vacuum line, they worked well once and my mechanic said vacuum lines.  Rear defrost doesn't work but probably just a broken defrost line, antenna doesn't go up. Sunroof won't open right, rear doesn't want to go low enough so it wants to scrape the paint.  Shifts great, steers great, runs wonderfully, brakes well, does 85 mph straight and smooth down the freeway.  Actually a very tight car with no rattles and tight suspension.  Actually has power in mid/upper range unlike stock.  Craptastic exhaust because I went to crappy shop down the street, 2.5" pipe and magnaflow(not sure, can't remember)muffler, sounds great and works well enough, not too loud.  Probably needs new rear rotors. Leaky oil pan gasket.  Hit black ice once and went off road, just tore up lower radiator mount (pic below) but it's not a problem, radiator doesn't move around. Low rust. Registered, just past Utah emissions and safety inspection.  Extremely fun to drive and not slow, not fast but fun because it's geared right. Pic below of spare parts, aluminum trim for the area between grill and bumper, not shown is a fwd 4000 front antiroll bar that can be fabricated into a rear for this car that it really could benefit from.  One year of this body with quattro and bound to be collectible. Supposedly 150lbs less than the models that followed with better gearing AFAIK.  I've owned 15+ german cars that were almost all faster and handled as well or better but this was the one that stuck with me, it's just a great car. Not being used enough, wish I could keep it.
Low Reserve.
 Have fun

2015 Audi A8 and S8 get some new goodies

Wed, 21 Aug 2013

Luxury car buyers are a demanding bunch. They've got this crazy notion that just because they're spending the better part of a hundred grand on a top-tier luxury sedan, they should get the very best and the cutting edge of what the industry has to offer. That has tended to come down to the S-Class even when it had grown long in the tooth, and now that Mercedes-Benz has rolled out an all-new version, the competition is falling all over itself to release updates to keep their flagship sedans in the running. Jaguar did that just yesterday with its XJ sedan, and now Audi has revealed the latest revisions to its A8 range.
Set to debut at the Frankfurt show in just a few weeks from now, the latest A8 (and its performance version, the S8) benefits from a series of stylistic, powertrain, and technology upgrades. Among the most prominent, of all things, are the new Matrix LED headlights that can automatically lower the high-beams for oncoming vehicles, with integrated turn signals that light up to point in the direction the driver's about to turn. But that's hardly the end of the story.
Audi has apparently reduced the output on the 3.0-liter supercharged V6 to from 328 horsepower to 310 but raised the 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 from 414 hp to 435, which now offers a 0-60 run of just 4.5 seconds. That's just three tenths behind the S8, which remains unchanged at 513 hp, as does the 493-hp 6.3-liter W12. The 3.0-liter TDI is up from 247 hp to 258, the 4.2-liter TDI grows from 345 hp to at 385 (with a massive 627 pound-feet of torque to boot) and the hybrid that offers a combined 245 hp and 354 lb-ft. That makes for one massive array of engines globally, although only some of them will be offered Stateside. Each is mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission and Quattro all-wheel drive, but thanks to the A8's lightweight construction, it's lighter than any other all-wheel-drive model in its class.

Audi A3 Sportback e-tron gets top grades in European crash tests [w/video]

Thu, Dec 11 2014

In simplistic terms, the Audi A3 Sportback e-tron plug-in hybrid will go real far when it needs to go and stop when it needs to stop. The PHEV has now been certified to protect its occupants when they need to be protected. So there's not much more that you can ask from a vehicle. The model received a maximum five-star crash-test rating from the Euro NCAP group, receiving top marks for front, side and rear collisions. The Audi also received kudos for the "multi collision brake assist" feature, which automatically engages the brakes once the car's been in a crash so that it doesn't get into another one. The plug-in hybrid was already getting positive responses from prospective customers. Last month, Audi said it stepped up its production of the model at its German factory from 30 units a day to 50. The PHEV can travel up to 30 miles on electricity alone and another 550 miles on a full tank of gas. More impressively, it has a 157 miles per gallon equivalent (MPGe) rating, using the European driving cycle. Check out a video of the test and Audi's press release below and read our driving impressions here. Five stars for the Audi A3 Sportback e-tron from Euro NCAP Top marks in the front, side and rear collision categories The new Audi A3 Sportback e-tron also offers a high level of safety for children Special prize for Audi pre sense basic and multicollision brake assist system Ingolstadt, December 10, 2014 – The Euro NCAP consortium has awarded the new Audi A3 Sportback e-tron* the maximum five star rating for crash safety. This puts the first volume production plug in hybrid from Audi among the safest cars in its class. The test panel was impressed by the Audi A3 Sportback e-tron across the board: As a result the plug-in hybrid earned top marks in protecting adults and children in a front, side or rear collision. The model also passed tests of its pedestrian protection with flying colors. This year Euro NCAP additionally tested assistance systems for the first time. The A3 Sportback e-tron with Audi pre sense front and Audi active lane assist also fulfilled the stringent requirements in this category. The model received the special "Euro NCAP advanced" prize for its Audi pre sense basic passenger protection system as well as for the Audi multicollision brake assist system that comes as standard equipment. This function initiates braking automatically in case of an accident to reduce the risk of skidding and the danger of a subsequent collision.

Will Audi surprise us with an all-electric SUV?

Sun, Jun 22 2014

Audi may be looking to get seriously competitive in the electric vehicle market, according to a report from Reuters. The company has plans prepared for a range of EVs that would compete with the likes of BMW and Tesla. In a market where innovation is seen as valuable, getting on board with electrification could help Audi avoid appearing out of step with the rest of the crowd (and the market), with analysts predicting a sharp uptick in battery-powered cars in the next several years. Building on the E-Tron line, which already includes the A3 E-Tron, Audi will begin offering an electric version of its R8 supercar in Europe next year. According to two confidential sources at Audi, the company also has plans for high-performance electric sedans and SUVs. It appears as though Audi is taking direct aim at Tesla with alternatives to the current Model S and the upcoming Model X SUV. Advantage: Audi? Without getting into too many specifics about such plans, the sources did confirm the existence of blueprints for an Audi Q8 E-Tron. Audi has said that any future electric cars would have a target range of 400 kilometers (about 249 miles), but previous reports suggest that the Q8 E-Tron could have a range of about 370 miles. That could be a serious challenge for Tesla. Advantage: Audi? All the German automakers have electric tricks up their sleeves. BMW has its i line, with the i3 making headway and the i8 expected to sell well. Mercedes-Benz has gotten into the game the B-Class Electric Drive. Also, its parent company Daimler has a stake in Tesla. Now, Audi appears poised to launch its own diverse electric fleet, and the next move might just be an SUV. And while this added competition might seem like tough news for Tesla, the proliferation of EVs, and the growing infrastructure that goes along with it, is more likely a tide that raises all (electric) ships - something that Elon Musk seems to understand very well.
