2009 Aston Martin V8 Vantage Base Hatchback 2-door 4.7l on 2040-cars
Cincinnati, Ohio, United States
As a collector of fine/exotic automobiles, I chose this specific year/make/model/transmission for it's importance within the brand and it's "updated and refreshed" exterior/interior.
the Vantage Coupe Having been out for a few years (previously using a 4.3L setup) 2009 was the launch of the bulletproof 4.7L engine (still in use today in 2014 models)... this engine change also included a full interior change (a proper key was swapped out for a genius and iconic "fob in the dash" system...) while the fob in the dash is cumbersome for the problematic "Sport Shift" models it is very easy to use and enjoyable in the Manual Transmission models. The Manual Transmission being the best transmission offered the 2009 with it's updated engine/trans/starting system also got an entirely new user interface (same as currently used in 2014 models) which included a much easier to use Navigation, and entirely new temperature control interface. These Interfaces are problem free and easy to use.... Mechanically the 09 has numerous other updates that are easy to notice and appreciate and honestly having 20+exotics I would never purchase any year older than 09 because of these important changes. This Vehicle Has the Following Options from the Factory, "Paint to Sample" Vertigo Blue Paint. Full Obsidian Black Interior (Which "thick" white stitching) 6 Speed close ratio manual Gearbox Navigation iPod Integration (in Center Console) USB Audio Integration Parking Sensors Power Folding Mirrors Dimming Rear View Mirror Silver Brake Calipers Xenon Headlamps Premium Sound Package Bluetooth Serious XM Radio (With LIFETIME Subscription) Factory Sport Suspension Factory Sport Exhaust Full Alcantara Headliner (A, B, & C Pillars. Rear Hatch Cover) Extras: From Factory vehicle comes w/ 2 Black Key Fobs, I purchased the $2200 optional "Crystal Key" used on the $250+ Models and had programmed at dealer to work (Includes 3 keys total) Currently sits on Pirelli All Season Tires (1 Week old), Includes NEW Factory Spec Performance Summer Tires as well. |

2017 Aston Marin Lagonda could live on Mercedes M-Class platform
Tue, 29 Oct 2013A few weeks ago, we brought you news from the launch of the Aston Martin Vanquish Volante that the British brand, which is formally known as Aston Martin Lagonda, was still planning on going ahead with a Lagonda-badged crossover. Now comes word that that vehicle could very well be based on a Mercedes-Benz M-Class.
When the first Lagonda Concept debuted at the 2009 Geneva Motor Show, it sat on a Mercedes-Benz GL-Class platform, some four years before Aston Martin and Mercedes-AMG deal was inked. And with that partnership, which will see Aston Martin gain access to AMG electrics and "bespoke, V8 powertrains," the opportunities for platform sharing are many.
Dr. Ulrich Bez, the boss of Aston Martin, told the UK's AutoCar, "I look at what Porsche is doing with the 911 as its core business and then it is able to do models like the Cayenne based on the Volkswagen Touareg. It is good business." We've said many times that we'll tolerate exotic CUVs and SUVs if it means keeping the beloved core models alive, which has been the case with Porsche. We see no reason Aston Martin wouldn't be able to do the same.
Ford's J Mays feels vindicated by Fusion reception
Tue, 25 Sep 2012It's hard to think back now, but the same man overseeing the design of the 2013 Ford Fusion also presided over a rather lackluster period in Ford design, highlighted by vehicles like the Five Hundred and Freestyle. With the redesigned Fusion receiving high praise, J Mays tells Automotive News that he feels vindicated from criticisms suggesting he's not a daring enough designer.
When Mays took over as lead of design in 1997, he admits to having quite an ego ("My head would barely fit through the door some days. I've long since gotten over myself") and the workload to match. With the Blue Oval's portfolio full of premium brands like Aston Martin, Jaguar, Land Rover and Volvo at that point, along with the bread-and-butter Ford, Lincoln and Mercury models, Mays certainly had quite the challenge.
It was in the mid-2000s that Mays took over just the premium brands, and took on the new title of Chief Creative Officer. At the time, Mays endured some criticism for looking backwards to retro styling, rather than setting a new standard for American car design - criticism that Mays says he is free from with the all-new Fusion.
Andy Palmer leaves Renault-Nissan to serve as CEO of Aston Martin
Tue, 02 Sep 2014Aston Martin has been without a helmsman since Ulrich Bez stepped down from the chief executive office at the end of last year, stepping back to serve as non-executive chairman in a semi-retired ambassadorial capacity. The British automaker, now on the cusp of a new era, has been running without a CEO since, but has now named Bez's replacement in Andy Palmer.
If you don't recognize the name, you should: Palmer has worked under the Renault-Nissan Alliance for decades now, rising through the ranks to become one of the top executives under Carlos Ghosn. Most recently he was serving as executive vice president of the entire group and chairman of the Infiniti brand, but like Carlos Tavares, who recently left Renault to run Peugeot, Palmer is now embarking on a new mission as CEO of Aston Martin.
Once the transition period is complete at the start of October, Palmer's role as Chief Planning Officer at Renault-Nissan will be assumed by Philippe Klein, who steps up from his current role as executive vice president of product planning for Renault. Read the statements from both companies below.
