Aston Martin may have filed a trademark for a new logo [UPDATE]

Sat, Jan 21 2017

UPDATE: Aston Martin did indeed file a trademark for the logo below, but company CEO Andy Palmer has confirmed it will be used for merchandise and won't replace the classic winged logo on cars. Here's Palmer's tweet: For those who reached out, we have no intention to remove/change the Aston Martin Wings. This logo is for merchandise https://t.co/iWdejAwO00 — Andy Palmer (@AndyatAston) January 23, 2017 "There's a shortage of perfect breasts in this world. It would be a pity to damage yours." Those words were spoken by Cary Elwes in the classic 1987 film The Princess Bride. Or, if you prefer, they were written by William Goldman in his book from 1973 by the same name. Either way, it doesn't matter. The point is, there aren't many things in this world that are perfect, and that have stood the test of time without alteration. The Aston Martin logo is one of those rare things. Apparently, Aston Martin filed a trademark application for a new logo. You can see it below. It's unclear where this design might make an appearance. If it's on pens, watches, or some other non-vehicular form, that's fine. If it's on the bonnet of a new supercar rolling down the line at Aston's plant in Gaydon, well... that's another matter entirely. Please, Aston Martin, your logo is perfect and has stood the test of time. Don't even think about changing it. Related Video:

Has Aston Martin abandoned plans for a Lagonda SUV?

Sat, Jul 19 2014

Aston Martin may possibly (hopefully?) axe plans for a Lagonda-badged SUV, according to a new report from the blokes at Piston Heads. If this is true, it'd serve as proof that the auto gods are good, and want us to be happy. The report is based on statements made by Director of Design Marek Reichman. "We still have plans for the brand. There might be some surprises in the marque's re-establishment into the market place, but as a very unique coachbuilt experience. And that's probably what's most befitting of the brand," Reichman told PH when asked about the Lagonda SUV, which debuted way back in 2009. "That was a different time [when the Lagonda debuted]," Reichman continued. "It was [Dr. Ulrich Bez's] time. And now we're in a very, very different time, with a different plan and with a different projection of what that brand should become." Considering the spy shots we've already seen (inset), PH's conclusion that the Lagonda brand would be reborn as an ultra-exclusive sedan doesn't seem far off. As for the rumors that AM would look to Mercedes-Benz for its SUV architecture, well, it's not looking so good any more. What do you think? Should Aston Martin launch a sedan above the Rapide? What would you expect in terms of price and performance? Let us know in Comments.

Enterprise adds Aston Martin DB9, Rapide S to rental fleet

Tue, Apr 5 2016

It'll cost you at least $100k to put your name on the title of a new Aston Martin, but if you just want one for the day Enterprise will soon be able to hook you up. The car rental company just announced a deal with the British automaker to bring its grand touring to locations across the US as part of its Exotic Car Collection. Enterprise will place the DB9 and Rapide S initially in select markets, including Atlanta, Houston, Dallas, San Francisco, SoCal, Miami, Naples, Orlando, Phoenix, Scottsdale and Las Vegas. So if you're anywhere above the Mason-Dixon line, you'll have to sit tight. While Enterprise has locations in Boston, Indianapolis, Seattle, Toronto, and DC (not to mention Nashville and Austin), those fleets aren't getting their Astons just yet. Enterprise can also hook you up with a variety of other exotic machinery, including an Audi R8, BMW i8, Bentley Continental GT, Chevy Corvette, Ferrari California, Jaguar F-Type, Maserati GranTurismo or Porsche 911. Prices vary, but they're not cheap. Related Video: Enterprise Rent-A-Car, Aston Martin Agreement Offers Exotic Car Collection Renters New High-End Vehicles ST.
