This 91 generation 4 Alfa Spider and drives great. Gets lots of compliments wherever I go- most people don't even know what an Alfa Romeo . The gen 4 (1991-94) Spiders offer Bosch fuel injection, some styling and other upgrades making it comfortable yet fun to drive. The engine starts right up, no smoking, trans shifts fine (no second gear crunch common on these) and drives fine. Recent maintenance includes new master cylinder, battery, A/C charge, headlight stone guards, and oil change. Tires have plenty of tread, and the spare is also 5 star Alfa Mag, with a brand new tire. I have the original tool kit in back, jack, and owner's manual.
Body is very nice with just a few normal dings and scratches commensurate with 110000 miles and 22 years of driving. Virtually rust free, the exception being a couple small bubbles on the windshield wiper cowl as shown. Trunk is very clean and rust free. Interior is nice, shows normal minor wear. seats appear to have been dyed at some time, looks very good. Gauges work except the tach- never did work while I've had it. Oil pressure gauge drops after driving a while, but I'm told this is common with these, and I had a mechanic check it with a separate gauge, and oil pressure is fine, even after long idle here in the Florida heat. A/C works, radio and power antenna works. Horns just quit recently- haven't had them checked. Top is very good shape- no issues- ( I never use it- as I only drive it on nice days, and it sits in my garage top down). Back window is clear.
I bought the car from an Alfa collector in MO- he bought it here in Fl and hardly drove it. Failing health forced dispersal of his collection. I've been enjoying it but no longer have space for it.
I have tried to describe the car thoroughly- please realize it is not a show car, nor is it priced like one. It's a very reliable, fun driver. As such, it is sold AS IS,where is- buyers pays shipping, taxes , registration etc as required by your state. It is currently titled in Florida in my name. Alfa Romeo reportedly developing a Giulia-based coupe
Thu, Apr 5 2018Much like classic, rear-wheel-drive Alfa Romeo sedans, the Giulia might gain a coupe counterpart. The possible Alfa Romeo coupe wouldn't just be a cruiser, as it's rumored to get a fantastical-sounding 641 horsepower output. British Autocar's sources say Alfa Romeo is developing a coupe based on the Giulia, with the front end carried over and a coupe body designed from that point back. Autocar says the coupe could be unveiled this year and hit the market in 2019. Alfa Romeo sold some 8,900 Giulias last year in the United States, and the coupe could function as a halo car. As for the powertrain, the standard version would utilize the Giulia's two-liter turbo engine good for 197 and 276 horsepower in various guises, but the absolute big deal would be the 2.9 turbo V6, which would gain an F1-style energy recovery system to boost the power to near-Ferrari levels. As in 641 horsepower, which is hundreds more than possible competitors from BMW, Audi and Mercedes-Benz have. The non-ERS, 500 hp version could also be available. Sources say a name for the coupe could be Sprint, which certainly carries a cachet, but as Autocar notes, "GTV" would correspond to Alfa Romeo's RWD history a little better — take for example the 1970s Alfetta and Alfetta GTV sedan-coupe combination. Sprint, on the other hand, was a front-wheel-drive coupe based on Alfasud hatchback mechanicals. Sergio Marchionne wants Alfa Romeo back in F1
Mon, Feb 15 2016It's been decades since Alfa Romeo has competed in Formula One. But if Sergio Marchionne gets his way, it could make a comeback soon. Now we know what you might be thinking: Alfa Romeo and Ferrari are both part of the same Fiat Chrysler Automobiles group, so why would Marchionne want two brands competing against each other in such a costly racing series? Because technically speaking, Ferrari is no longer part of FCA, that's why. They share mostly the same owners and are run by the same person (Marchionne), but the Prancing Horse marque recently split off from its former parent company and floated its own shares on the stock market. That makes it a separate entity, and also means that FCA no longer has a direct link to F1. But its chief executive clearly thinks the investment is worthwhile. Marchionne has been known to state grandiose plans, but he's also been known to carry through on many of them. So the next question is, if the plan goes through, just how Alfa Romeo might participate in F1? Some automakers (like Mercedes) field their own teams, others (like Honda) compete as engine suppliers, and still others (like Infiniti) as branding partners. Alfa could go either route, but Marchionne told Italy's La Gazzetta dello Sport that "Alfa Romeo is able to make itself a chassis, and it is able to make engines." Of course, that doesn't mean that it necessarily will. It could outsource a chassis from a constructor like Dallara, which is located near the same Varano circuit that Alfa uses regularly. It could also source an engine from its former sister company: Marchionne floated the possibility of starting a separate engine program in Maranello for Red Bull when it was hunting for a new engine partner, and could ostensibly do the same for Alfa Romeo. "In order to re-establish itself as a sport brand, Alfa Romeo can and must consider the possibility of return to race in Formula 1," said Marchionne. "How? Probably in a collaboration with Ferrari." Alfa Romeo first competed in F1 in the early 1950s, winning the world championship two years running in 1950 with Giuseppe Farina (scion of Pininfarina) and 1951 with Juan Manuel Fangio. It then dropped out, only to resurface as a full constructor team between 1979 and 1985, with limited results. It also supplied engines to an array of teams in the 1960s, '70s, and '80s.
Alfa Romeo to unveil compact crossover in Geneva, report says
Tue, Feb 19 2019Last year, Alfa Romeo outlined its five-year plan, which calls for reviving both the 8C and GTV as high-performance hybrids and plans for new utility vehicles to bookend the Stelvio. Now, a report from Autoblog.gr (no relation) says the Fiat Chrysler brand will show its long-rumored compact SUV to slot underneath the Stelvio at the Geneva Motor Show next month. The Greek website did not identify its source but says the compact SUV will be built on the Giorgio platform that underpins the Giulia and would contribute to the brand's goals of hitting 400,000 annual sales. The Geneva Motor Show kicks off March 5. FCA is investing $5.7 billion in its under-utilized Italian plants to ramp up production of Jeep, Fiat and Maserati models, plus the new Alfa Romeo compact SUV to be built in Pomigliano, Italy. But those plans, which were reported by Automotive News Europe, had the new Alfa compact ute built on the platform underpinning the Jeep Compass, which was also set to start production in Melfi, Italy. A plug-in hybrid version of the Alfa is also reportedly in the picture, which squares with the brand's plans to expand its offerings of electrified powertrains to six PHEVs. Last we heard, Alfa Romeo was planning to launch its largest-yet SUV as a seven-seater, based on the Giorgio platform, as a mild hybrid.
