1987 Alfa Romeo Spider Veloce - Honest Car For Sale! on 2040-cars
Bedford, New York, United States
I am pleased to be able to offer this very fine example of a mid-80's
bosche, fuel injected 2 liter engine Alfa Spider. This car has had two
owners for most of its life (both lawyers!) The original owner from New
York and the current owner of 20 years in beautiful Essex Connecticut.
The car has never been abused, driven wildly, or been in any accidents.
There are no major rust issues either with the floors or the trunk. The
paint color is an unusual burnt orange/rust. It is of course its
original color. The interior is tan leather.
This is a wonderful running Alfa Romeo. It sounds great, feels great, drives great, shifts great, synchros fine, and even breaks great. It enjoys five matching Campagnolo alloys with five matching Michelin tires. The suspension is tight as are the shocks. This is truly a Driver Quality Car. This is a car you would not hesitate to fly in and drive home. The A/C seems to blow cold. Driver's electric window is intermittent. Electric mirrors work. The car has a wonderful upgraded CD stereo. The leather is by and large in excellent condition. The convertible top is black German canvas, also in acceptable condition. The doors open and close perfectly. There is no sagging of the body shell. Horn, lights, blinkers all work. The quality of the paint is old original/somewhat faded. Again, this is not a show car, simply a wonderful driving 2 liter Alfa Spider. Please be aware that there is a mileage discrepancy issue. Both the speedometer and tachometer work well. The odometer does not accrue miles. As the car is over ten years of age, there is a waver by the state of New York. If you fix the odometer, you get to start from the beginning! Feel free to call me at (914) 403-1768 and take a ride to beautiful Bedford Village, located just 42 miles north of Times Square. If transportation is of concern to you, I strongly recommend Transport Masters of Boca Raton, Florida - (561) 482-7789 for a free quote. Thank you for taking the time to read this description. Touring's Disco Volante makes us green with envy [w/video]
Tue, Mar 4 2014In its entire production run, Alfa Romeo only ever built 500 examples of the 8C Competizione – just 90 of which ended up in the United States – and another 500 Spiders. That makes it a pretty rare car indeed, but it's positively commonplace compared to the Disco Volante, the version reborn by the talented and steady hands at Carrozzeria Touring Superleggera. In correspondece with Autoblog, Touring's CEO Piero Mancardi confirmed that the coachbuilder will only build eight examples of the Disco Volante, in colors chosen by their individual customers: one in black, one in blue, one in silver, the one in green you see here and the rest in different shades of red. That makes this particular example a one-of-a-kind work of art that we were privileged to behold here at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show, and you can see what we saw through the camera lens in the high-resolution image gallery above, or by checking out the video below. Audi rumored to buy Alfa Romeo, officials deny it
Thu, 28 Mar 2013For more than two years, Volkswagen has been making public statements about its willingness to buy Alfa Romeo and quadruple the Italian brand's sales, and for just as long, Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne has replied with some version of "Mr. Piëch, drop it." According to a report in Ward's Auto, all that jousting might be over: it claims that sources close to both Marchionne and Audi CEO Rupert Stadler admit that the two are in talks for Audi to buy not just Alfa Romeo, but a production plant in Italy. In fact, a final deal could possibly include partsmaker Magnetti Marelli.
Against that backdrop, a report by German news weekly Stern quotes a Fiat spokesmen as saying it doesn't comment on rumors and an Audi rep has said flatly that "There is no substance in the news." If a sale is being arranged, the timing would seem to point to how eager Fiat is to raise cash to complete its major initiatives. Even though Alfa Romeo continues to delay its return to the US, it just showed off the production version of the 4C at the Geneva Motor Show (shown above) and said that preferred Fiat dealerships here would get them. Then there's Alfa's recently concluded deal with Mazda to develop a roadster based on the next generation MX-5 Miata - a deal that would seem to help both the Italian and Japanese brands.
The monetary issues are troublesome, though. Fiat is taking a beating in the European market and its weak-kneed balance sheet is delaying gotta-have-it products like the Jeep Cherokee. Fiat has been talking to banks about getting money to buy the rest of Chrysler and those financial institutions have also raised issues about debt and cash reserves, and the nasty game of chess Fiat is playing with the United Auto Workers (and now the court system about the portion of Chrysler it doesn't own) could end up blowing another hole in Marchionne's plans. It is possible that this could finally have convinced Fiat to at least see how serious Audi's parent company, Volkswagen, is about buying Alfa Romeo. Or it could be just another rumor.
Alfa Romeo to launch new versions of 4C each year
Mon, Mar 24 2014Alfa Romeo is an exciting brand. You could argue that the MiTo and Giulietta hatchbacks might not speak so much to that effect, but the 4C sure does. Fortunately, Alfa has every intention of keeping the 4C at the forefront of its lineup with a series of upgrades – one to come each year, according to Top Gear. The production version of the compact mid-engined sports car launched just last year at the Geneva Motor Show, and this year the company returned with the 4C Spider concept that previews the production roadster to follow. That may prove the most substantial of the revisions Alfa has in mind for the 4C, but it may not be the last. Just what Alfa will do next remains to be seen, but sources are already speculating on what could follow. Since the current 4C is a bare-bones affair – with a minimalist cabin and no trunk to speak of with the front hood welded shut – we're wouldn't be surprised to see a slightly more accommodating version follow. After that, it's anyone's guess. Top Gear suggests a more hardcore version – it sure would be exciting to see the Quadrifoglio Verde adorn a more powerful 4C in the future. But we're still years off from seeing any such derivative come to fruition, so we'll just have to hold on tight for the time being and wait for Alfa to finally bring itself and the 4C to American showrooms.
