Up for sale is a really nice 1982 Alfa spider.  After hounding my friend for over a year he finally agreed to sell me his Alfa.  My friend inherited the car from his mother who bought it brand new at the local dealership in PA.  After driving it for a very short time, she garaged it with little over 20,000 miles.  My friend got the car and drove it down to South Florida and did a minor restoration to get it back on the road and looking nice.  he car was re-sprayed to original factory color.  It looks like a dark gray /black or slate.  The interior is tan leather with tan/brown carpeting, all original.  After driving the car for several years he also garaged it after just 51,000 miles.  For a 32 year old car that's 1,600 per year!  I wanted a small project car that I could work on in my garage and this was it, no rust, lots of original owner paperwork and known history.  The PO did the following during his ownership:

  • paint job - several scratches and minor dents due to poor storage protection in garage
  • New exhaust system - factory OEM
  • New soft top - still looks new (I don't think he took the car out after installing it)
  • New fuel pump and filter
  • I have receipts showing he changed the oil every 1,000 miles
  • misc. upkeep, light bulbs, spark plugs, wires, etc.

Here is what I have done since buying the car just 3 months ago:

  • New battery
  • New fuel pump, fuel filter
  • Clean out gas tank and lines
  • New tires
  • rebuilt all 4 disk brakes
  • cleaned out all fuel injectors
  • New oil, oil filter, tranny fluid, rear end fluid

The Alfa is 100% road ready and I drive it on weekends.  why selling?? While I was waiting on my buddy to sell me this car I found another project that I like better.  A 1976 BMW 2002.  The Alfa is a great car but a bit small for me.  The car has A/C but does not work, power mirrors, 5-speed tranny (2nd synchro grinds a bit), no rust and need body side moldings as I took off the old ones that were glued on.  The Alfa looks sharp as you can see in the photos and the 2.0 Ltr motor runs strong with the Bosch fuel injection.  No smoke, no oil leaks, not a show queen but a nice driver that gets attention since you don't see them everyday.  If I was keeping the car I would do the following while I drove it:

  1. Try buffing out first to get the scratches out, minor body work to remove the dings and dents
  2. Recover the seats and dash
  3. Fix 2nd gear synchro

Im sure you will add to my list but the car is solid and any money you put into it will be a plus for you.  It's a 32 year old car and does not have any warranty.  Please email me any questions you may have and I will answer as soon as possible.  I am listing the car for sale and may remove from ebay auction in the event that I sell the car.

Alfa Romeo Caimano concept is peak Seventies wedge design

This weekend, the Bremen Classic Motor Show will be opening its doors with a "wedgetastic" theme, highlighted by the Alfa Romeo Caimano concept you see here. Alfa Romeo commissioned Giorgetto Giugiaro and his then-newly established Italdesign firm to cook up the Caimano concept for the 1971 Turin Motor Show. It was based on the Alfasud (also designed by Giugiaro) but shortened the chassis by nearly 8 inches and fitted with entirely different bodywork that made it look like it was from another planet. The canopy greenhouse eliminated the A pillar, with the B and C pillars forming a trapezoidal roll bar at the back, capped by an adjustable spoiler. Inside the cockpit were two recumbent bucket seats, a cylindrical dashboard, and two small openings in the glass canopy for ventilation. Of course it also had pop-up headlights, and it was powered by the 1.2-liter boxer for from the Alfasud, good for all of 68 horsepower. Striking though it may have been at the time, it shouldn't come as a surprise that only one example was ever built, and it remains in the Alfa Romeo museum in Milan. The company is taking it out of the collection, however, and bringing it to Bremen for the show. Alongside it, showgoers can expect to see such other "wedgetastic" creations of yesteryear as the Lancia Stratos, Maserati Khamsin, Lamborghini Countach, Mercedes C111, and the BMW Turbo X1 (which previewed the M1 to follow). Little surprise that most of these wedge designs were penned by either Giugiaro or by Marcello Gandini for Bertone. Along with Lionardo Fioravanti (of Pininfarina fame), they were each born in Italy in 1938 within months of each other, and went on to dominate Italian automotive design over the course of their careers. It will bring together some 650 exhibitors in eight halls covering an area of over 45,000 square metres.

Pininfarina launches Classiche certification program for vintage cars

Pininfarina is focused on its future as a carmaker, but it's not forgetting about its past as a design house and contract manufacturer. The brand launched a certification program called Pininfarina Classiche that aims to give enthusiasts valuable details about their vintage car. Only two cars will initially be certifiable by Pininfarina: the four evolutions of the Alfa Romeo Spider built between 1966 and 1993 and the different versions of the Fiat 124 Spider sold from 1966 to 1985. Pininfarina designed both roadsters, and it notably took over production and sales of the Fiat model in 1982. American sales of the Pininfarina-badged Spider started for 1984 following Fiat's exit from our market. The certification service aims to provide collectors with production-related data about their car. This includes the chassis number, the market it was built for, the original paint and upholstery colors, the date that the car left Pininfarina's factory, as well as any and all other details that are available, such as the engine number and, for convertibles, the color of the soft top. Pininfarina notes that it waited until 2024 to offer this service because providing it required cataloging its archives, which took about two years, and using an archive management software. Enthusiasts who want to get their car certified need to reach out to Pininfarina. The firm will look through its archives and give the customer a list of what's available. The certification costs ˆ400 (about $430) for cars built before 1980 and ˆ300 (around $330) for post-1980 models.  Pininfarina has designed and built dozens of cars since its inception in 1930, and it plans to expand its Classiche service in the near future. It notes that its archives department includes production serial numbers for over 700,000 cars and more than 20,000 historical documents such as design sketches, technical blueprints, photos taken on the assembly line, and correspondence with the carmakers it worked with. Alfa Romeo celebrates 110th anniversary with 79-page e-book

For its 110th anniversary, Alfa Romeo wanted to host a summer bash at its renovated Museo Storica Alfa Romeo in Arese, Italy. Coronavirus nixed that, so part of the Plan B syllabus is a 79-page e-book that plucks all sorts of fascinating details from even before the automaker's birth as A.L.F.A., which stood for Anonima Lombarda Fabbrica Automobili, and the fecund history since. The work can be considered more than a dive into Alfa Romeo history because of Alfa Romeo's reach for much of its existence. The 1914 Aerodinamica by Castagna built on an Alfa Romeo 40/60 HP chassis predates Buckminster Fuller's Dynmaxion by 20 years. Enzo Ferrari raced for Alfa Romeo or with Alfra Romeo support for 19 years, the driver's seat also occupied by legends like Juan Manuel Fangio, Tazio Nuvolari, and Alberto Ascari. Nuvolari drove the Bimotore — a car with one V8 in front of the cockpit, another V8 behind — to a top speed of 209 miles per hour in 1934, and raced the car alongside Louis Chiron, the same Frenchman Bugatti would later name a car after. Alfa Romeo's tech prowess impressed famed tinkerer Henry Ford so much that in 1939 Ford said, "When I see an Alfa Romeo go by, I tip my hat." And it's hard to believe Ian Fleming hadn't heard of the 1900 C52 Disco Volante concept from 1952 when conjuring a name for Emilio Largo's motor yacht for his 1961 book, "Thunderball." There's plenty of Alfa-centric trivia, too, like an employee coming up with the idea for the automaker's logo while waiting for a train, the origin of the quadrifoglio, intended as a good luck charm for all the three drivers in the 1923 Targa Florio but only paying off for one, and how Nicola Romeo inscribed his name in history. The stories carry up to the present day Giulia GTA and coming Tonale crossover, with a cameo by FCA design chief Ralph Gilles to boot.
