1982 is the last year of the series 2 spider, without the front and rear spoilers that most aficionado agree was a step in the wrong direction aesthetically. It is the first year of the very dependable Bosch injection system, so the only year with the 'good looks and dependability'. The paint is called seafoam green and is factory original pearl color that changes from green to blue, depending on light....note in the photos indoor garage shots vs. in the sunshine shots, gorgeous! Interior is a combination of bright blue carpets, with dark blue leather, in flawless 'new condition throughout' again, very attractive. I went to great expense to secure and convert to the stainless bumpers front and rear and eliminate the nasty US govt. required 'big a$$ black bumpers!' I am a longtime Alfisti and had saved a perfect bumper set for more than 25 years waiting for the best candidate, this Spider is it! I acquired this beauty from its original owner who saved every extensive service record from new and it has 57k original miles on the odo. It was repainted due to being 'keyed' by vandals at one point while parked in San Francisco...insurance paid, so it looks near new. Top was replaced at that time, padded canvas. Wheels are flawless, tires new. These are very luxurious cars, power windows, power electric mirrors, leather interior (flawless), plush carpets, padded canvas top, and they are just an absolute joy to drive, quick and nimble. This is one of the lowest mileage gorgeous spiders you will ever see. Prices are on the rise....what cool collector car isn't?? I am downsizing my lovely collection of vintage cars. Alfa's have been stuck in the mud valuation wise, but Guilia/Guilietta and roundtail spiders are spiking in value now. A clean 1982 Spider sold at auction for $22K plus at this winter's AZ scene, and this car trumps that car at a lower price by a long shot. Differences include alloy wheel upgrade and expensive concours condition stainless bumper conversion. I am in Lake Tahoe, NV (northshore). This is THE Alfa Spider to acquire, you have to see it to believe it, obsessively pampered and garaged from new and it shows. The ONLY negative associated with this car in an effort to represent the car honestly is a 'crunch when cold' in 2nd gear. I have not changed out to red dot, but apparently this is a decent 'fix' until replacement time. It is NOT necessary to repair/replace at this time, performs just fine when warmed up. This car rests in a heated garage on a battery tender and starts right up every time. Spring is right around the corner, this car is stunningly beautiful, rare and in exceptional condition. In the photos, note the gap between bumper and hood...rare laser straight like this, no bumps and bruises on this specimen! |

Lazzarini dreams up Ferrari-powered, Hennessey-tuned Alfa Romeo 4C
Wed, Nov 19 2014If there are any two firms you could count on to shoehorn a Ferrari V8 into the back of an Alfa Romeo 4C, they would almost certainly be Lazzarini Design and Hennessey Performance. The former already dreamt up doing the same with a Fiat 500, and the latter has been shattering records with a similar conversion performed on a Lotus Elise to turn it into the Venom GT. What you see here is their lovechild. Designed by Lazzarini and enhanced by Hennessey, the 4C Definitiva does – at least in theory – what Maserati was not prepared to do: shoehorn a Ferrari-sourced V8 engine into the back of Alfa's nimble little sports car. The powerplant is borrowed from the Ferrari 458 Italia and tuned by Hennessey to produce a claimed 738 horsepower and 532 pound-feet of torque. In a package weighing just 2,100 pounds, that's said to be enough to propel Frankenstein's four-wheeled monster to 60 miles per hour in a scant 2.5 seconds and across the quarter-mile in 9.5 seconds at 137 mph. Those are LaFerrari levels of performance. As you can see, the engine transplant calls for a widened rear track, and is accompanied by more aggressive aero as well. Of course, the design may be little more than an idea at the moment, but Lazzarini is apparently looking for customers to commission the first examples, at a reported price of 260,000 euros, which is about five times the going rate for a stock 4C and more than Ferrari gets for the 458 Speciale. Whether it's worth that much is one question. Whether Lazzarini and Hennessey could actually deliver on the promise is an even bigger one. It only took 2.5 years to create the Alfa Romeo Giulia
Sat, Jul 11 2015Automakers are capable of some remarkable things. Take Alfa Romeo, for example. A new vehicle generally takes four to five years to go from conception to production, but with the stunning new Giulia, the iconic Italian brand allegedly did it in less than three years. That's according Chief Engineer Philippe Krief, who spoke to Car about the, um, car. "You ask every carmaker: doing a car in two years, everyone will tell you it's not possible," Krief told Car. "The industry standard says four, the longest say five years, everywhere in the world. We had to do it in two and a half years. [Sergio] Marchionne said – and he's right – the only way to achieve that is to be different." Remarkably, this was done with just 11 people, handpicked by Krief. This so-called Skunkworks approach allowed for fast decision making and brainstorming, and consequently, stuff like the torque-vectoring system and active aerodynamics on the Quadrifoglio. While we love talking about Alfa's notorious Cloverleaf trim, Krief also let some details slip on additional members of the Giulia family, beyond the 510-horsepower, 3.0-liter, twin-turbocharged V6 model. We can expect to see those in a few months time, at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show. And yes, that could include a four-cylinder model and a diesel V6. "Probably," Krief said, when asked about a four-cylinder model. "And we are package-protected for V6 diesel, we can install it in the car and after we can decide whether to put it in or not." So there you are. While the big news remains the Quadrifoglio, Alfa is set to expand the Giulia's engine range, and it'll do so very soon. Stay tuned. Related Video:
This Alfa Romeo Giulia shows why its owner scored a job at Singer Vehicle Design
Thu, Jan 15 2015The original Giulia may not have been the most beautiful Alfa Romeo ever built, but it was one of the coolest. It was built at two different locations in Milan from 1962 through 1978, and as squared-off as it is, it still has an enduring sense of style. No wonder Alfa is planning on reviving the nameplate, just as it did with the Giulietta. It's just the kind of car that a video series like Petrolicious was born to profile, and that's why it's the subject of this latest episode. This particular 1970 Giulia 1300 Ti belongs to one Dorian Valenzuela, who bought it on Craigslist and modified it just the way he wanted – and to beautiful effect, we might add. In fact, we weren't the only ones who were impressed with Dorian's work, either: the job he did on the Giulia lead him to land a job with Singer Vehicle Design, purveyor of spectacularly reimagined Porsche restomods.
