You are viewing a very rare 1971 Giulia Super 1600.  Model 10526.  Very rare "Biscione" edition.  Vin #:  AR1887419.

I am reluctantly offering my "Super" up for sale. With 2 Giulia sedans in the stable and not using either one of them, it's time to find a new home for this very rare Alfa.  I purchased it from an Alfisti that was living overseas.  It was imported into the US from Belgium in 2005 and has seen very little use since then.  It is fitted with the original 1600 engine with the factory dual solex carbs.  5 Speed transmission.   This is the later style with "hanging pedals".  The "Biscione" edition makes this Super quite rare in the States.

Color:  AR343 - Blu Olandese with Tan Interior

Clear "Michigan" Title

50,000 Kilometers on odometer - actual mileage is unknown.

I will be adding more pictures within the next few days.

I have owned the Super for the past few years and have used it sporadically over that time period.  With too many Alfa's and not enough time to drive them, it has been sitting in the garage along with my other Alfa's as well as another Giulia Super.  I am in the midst of 2 Alfa restorations right now, and really need to free up some space.  I really don't want to part with it, but realistically it will not be used or enjoyed the way it should be.  With that said, I am hoping to find a good "Alfa" home for this very rare sedan.

I would consider it "daily driver" type Alfa with plenty of patina, so you don't need to worry about using it.  It's ultra reliable and always starts up.

"Biscione" means "Snake" in Italian.

The trim differences between a standard Super and the Biscione are as follows:

1.  Recessed  "Alfa Romeo" badge on the trunk.
2.  Chrome center strip on hood.
3.  "Biscione" badges on "C" Pillars
4.  Chrome trim on rocker panels
5.  First part of the headliner under visors are "black"
6.  Chrome surroundings on interior light switch.

This example is completely stock down to the original factory shift knob.

Mechanically
, the Alfa runs very nicely.  Starts easily and is completely stock.  As the pictures show, the engine compartment is very tidy and looks factory correct.  There are no charging issues.  No excess oil burning.  Has plenty of power on the freeway and pulls nicely in each gear considering it's a 1600.  Clutch and transmission work fine with no syncro issues that I can recall.  As stated, this is a "hanging pedal" car with a hydraulic clutch.  Much more modern and easy to use as compared to floor pedals in my opinion.  U joints and driveshaft donut was fixed shortly after I purchased it.  Exhaust is fine.  Tires are all in good condition on original steel wheels & correct hubcaps.  Known issues:  at some point the ignition switch was bypassed due to a broken key, so now it just requires the pull of a switch (under the dash) and the push of a button to start it.  I purchased a correct replacement switch, but frankly found it more convenient to use it the way it is.  The replacement switch will be included in the sale.  Transmission leaks oil.  Some excess free play in the steering.  Needs new toggle switch for the wipers.  Has factory "Euro" headlights and also rear "fog" light.  Brakes work fine as well as the electrics.  Has new heater valve and fresh oil change.

The interior is in very nice original condition as shown in the pictures.  Considering it's over 40 years old, I would say it's almost mint except for the tear in the driver's seat.  The dash is in great shape with a factory radio "block off " plate.  Obviously features "Euro" gauges with speedometer in Kilometers per hour.  Center console is very nice as well.  Passenger seat and rear seat are in great condition.  Door panels near perfect.  All windows operate correctly as well as the interior door handles.  Driver's seat fitted with Sheepskin seat cover due to rip in the seat.

The body has an older repaint in it's original AR 343 Blu Olandese at some point while it was still over in Europe.  It has held up pretty good and has the normal "wear" one would expect from a vintage unrestored Alfa.    It has some nice patina and presents itself nicely as a "driver".  As shown in the pictures, the passenger side shows some evidence of previous body work.    There are some misc. spots where the paint has flaked off including under the front bumper.  It does have some of the typical rust that Supers are noted for.  These spots are limited to the following areas:  both rear wheel arches, passenger side rear quarter panel (worst spot) and the lip of the hood.  Floors and rockers are solid as well as the area under the radiator support.  Trunk lid in nice condition with no rust issues.  Both front and rear bumpers are in nice condition.

In summary, this is essentially an all original unrestored Giulia Super.  Far from perfect, but could be a great daily driver for the Alfisti that is looking for something a little bit different.  Ultra reliable, I wouldn't hesitate to drive it anywhere.  These sedans are a blast to drive, and will always get a "thumbs up" from fellow car enthusiasts!  For those that have been priced out of the market and cannot afford to pay the high teens for a "Super", this may be the perfect alternative.

The Alfa is being sold in "as is" condition with no warranty expressed or implied.  I cannot be held responsible for any errors or inaccuracies that may have been inadvertently been provided.

Please have your finds in order prior to bidding.

Shipping is up to the buyer to arrange.

As stated, the Super represents a wonderful opportunity for the Alfa enthusiast that is looking for a solid example at an affordable price.  Comes with a clear Michigan title.  Will need some general work/maintenance as noted in the description.  The buyer should expect other normal wear and tear items to be addressed as would be expected of a 40 year old vintage sports sedan.  Sold in "as is" condition with no warranty expressed or implied.
I have done my best to describe the Alfa to the best of my ability, however there may be some things that I may have missed.  It is up to the buyer to do due diligence when making a purchase online.  Do not make any assumptions about anything.  Ask any questions that may not have been addressed.  I am not responsible for any errors or erroneous misinformation.

I will be adding more pictures within the next few days.

For the motivated buyer, I will consider ending the auction early for a serious offer, however I do not have a buy it now price set.

The fine print:  If you have 5 or less feedback transactions, you must contact me prior to bidding.  A non-refundable deposit of $500.00 is due within 24 hours of the auction end.  If the deposit is not received, the Alfa will be offered to the next highest bidder.  The balance is due within 7 days of the auction end date.  The car must be picked up within 10 days of the auction end date.   A $10.00 per day storage fee will be charged after the 10 days unless prior arrangements have been made.  I have sold several vintage cars to overseas buyers with the buyers being extremely pleased with the sale.   "License Plates" not included.  If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact me.  I will do my best to answer any questions you may have.

I just took the Super out of storage this weekend to take some additional photos which have been added to listing.  These photos highlight some of the noted rust areas on the quarter panel and lip on the hood.   Additionally, I found 2 small bubbles near the gutter trim and a few other misc.rust spots which I had not noted since it's been primarily covered and stored.  I also forgot to mention that there is a stone chip in the windshield on the driver's side.  Lastly, I will be adding more pictures that shows the undercarriage.

I had a chance to take the Super around the block yesterday.  It fired up nicely and ran smoothly.  When pulling up to my driveway I could hear a clunk in the right front which sounds like a lower ball joint or possibly sway bar bushing.

My initial plan for the Super was to make it into an Italian Police Car.  For those not familiar, The Giulia Super was used by the Italian Police - and can be seen in many vintage movies including the original "Italian Job".  The common color scheme was dark blue with a white roof, so this Super would be the perfect candidate to make a the ultimate Giulia Super!  My plan was to paint the roof white and and add a removable siren and some "Policia" graphics on the side.  Would certainly be an even more attention getter than it is right now.

I have used up the allotted amount of pictures (24), but will try to get some help to add additional pictures including more of the undercarriage.

Lastly, keep in mind that this is a 50 year old Italian Sedan - please be realistic in your expectations of the condition of the Alfa.  It is an unrestored example.  Any questions, let me know.

2020 Alfa Romeo Giulia First Drive | All about the little things

Tue, Nov 19 2019

ALBEROBELLO, Italy – Little things can make a big difference. And for the 2020 Alfa Romeo Giulia, it's the little things that have been addressed, those that have been causing reviewers to kvetch and customers to look elsewhere. The cupholders that cause bottles to bang into the HVAC controls. The shifter and knobs made of cheap plastic that wobble about in your hand. The backwoods entertainment system that makes an Audi's look like it's been beamed in from the far-flung future.  The big things? They've been left untouched, almost entirely for the best. The Giulia's exceptional driving credentials have been well-documented with multiple awards and much gushing about divine steering and an astute chassis. For 2020, they're unchanged apart from some imperceptible tweaks to the steering that iron out an occasional low-speed refinement issue. Even when driven on the regrettably non-winding roads of southern Italy's "heel," the Giulia continues to come across as something different and special. That steering is pleasingly quick and full of feeling, friendly to both those who yearn for man-machine connection and those who'd rather not get an upper body workout when parking at Kroger. The Giulia feels light and playful, with a stiff chassis and adeptly tuned suspension. When people talk about sport sedans losing their edge (cough BMW 3 Series), it can still be found in the Giulia. At the same time, the adaptive dampers available in the Ti trim's Performance package impressively sops up nasty bumps, of which there are a great many around Italy's heel (AKA Puglia). Cars with such a sporting "edge" are often given a pass when it comes to ride quality, as a sore back and kidneys bruised by the seat bolsters are considered par for the course. The Giulia needs no such handicap. If there's a meh moment, it's the engine. Much is rightly made about the Quadrifoglio's 2.9-liter turbo V6 derived from Ferrari and possibly divine intervention. By contrast, the standard 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four doesn't offer much in the way of zest. Oh, its 280 horsepower and 306 pound-feet of torque are class-leading, and its 5.1-second estimated 0-60 time is exceptional. In sound, however, it's just another turbo-four, and most disappointingly, its 5,500-rpm redline is a real buzzkill. It's not exactly diesel-like, but it's close.

Touring's Disco Volante makes us green with envy [w/video]

Tue, Mar 4 2014

In its entire production run, Alfa Romeo only ever built 500 examples of the 8C Competizione – just 90 of which ended up in the United States – and another 500 Spiders. That makes it a pretty rare car indeed, but it's positively commonplace compared to the Disco Volante, the version reborn by the talented and steady hands at Carrozzeria Touring Superleggera. In correspondece with Autoblog, Touring's CEO Piero Mancardi confirmed that the coachbuilder will only build eight examples of the Disco Volante, in colors chosen by their individual customers: one in black, one in blue, one in silver, the one in green you see here and the rest in different shades of red. That makes this particular example a one-of-a-kind work of art that we were privileged to behold here at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show, and you can see what we saw through the camera lens in the high-resolution image gallery above, or by checking out the video below. Alfa Romeo's Giulia Quadrifoglio gets the GTA treatment

Mon, Mar 2 2020

Alfa Romeo will celebrate 110 years of building some of the world's most emotional driving machines with a brand-new Giulia Quadrifoglio GTA. GTA, which stands for "Gran Turismo Alleggerita," is a throwback to the 1965 Giulia Sprint GT, which first got the treatment. The new GTA and GTAm will elevate the Giulia's already driver-friendly formula to a whole new level.  If the plain-Jane Giulia Quadrifoglio is a BMW M3 or Mercedes-AMG C63 competitor, the GTA is your Competition or "S" variant, respectively. It boasts more power, less weight, enhanced aero, a revised suspension, and a reworked chassis and interior designed to keep the driver in place and focused on one task and one task alone: driving fast.  The wick on the GTA's 2.9-liter twin-turbocharged V6 has been turned up a bit, resulting in a new peak rating of 540 horsepower (up 30 from the base car). To reduce weight, Alfa replaced a host of exterior panels with carbon fiber equivalents. The carbon treatment extends to some other components, such as a the drive shaft. Alfa says the net reduction works out to 220 pounds.  Outside, the aero has been completely revised with technical know-how provided by Sauber Engineering (of F1 renown). It also boasts 20-inch center-locking wheels and a titanium exhaust system. Alfa replaced many of the suspension bushings, the shocks and the springs with performance-friendly hardware. The GTAm pushes the formula even farther. We hesitate to compare a sport sedan to a GT Coupe, but the relationship between GTA and GTAm is quite similar to that between the Porsche 911 GT3 and GT3 RS. Both are fundamentally the same car, but the latter compromises a great deal more of its daily drivability for the sake of improving its on-track feel and performance.  With the GTAm, this included a set of carbon-backed front bucket seats with six-point harnesses, Lexan window inserts for the side and rear windows, and a rear seat delete. In place of the rear bench, you get a harness bar attached to a structural roll hoop, plus a handy little cubby for storing your custom Bell helmet in Alfa's GTA livery (which comes with the car, as well as an Alpinestars race suit, gloves and shoes, and a personalized Goodwool car cover). Checking in at just 3,350 pounds, the GTAm boasts a power-to-weight ratio of 6.2 pounds per horsepower, which Alfa says is the best in the class, enabling a 0-60 run in just 3.6 seconds.
