Alfa Romeo 1971 Giulia Super 1600 Rare "biscione" Model 10526 Series on 2040-cars
Novi, Michigan, United States
You are viewing a very rare 1971 Giulia Super 1600. Model 10526. Very rare "Biscione" edition. Vin #: AR1887419.
I am reluctantly offering my "Super" up for sale. With 2 Giulia sedans in the stable and not using either one of them, it's time to find a new home for this very rare Alfa. I purchased it from an Alfisti that was living overseas. It was imported into the US from Belgium in 2005 and has seen very little use since then. It is fitted with the original 1600 engine with the factory dual solex carbs. 5 Speed transmission. This is the later style with "hanging pedals". The "Biscione" edition makes this Super quite rare in the States. Color: AR343 - Blu Olandese with Tan Interior Clear "Michigan" Title 50,000 Kilometers on odometer - actual mileage is unknown. I will be adding more pictures within the next few days. I have owned the Super for the past few years and have used it sporadically over that time period. With too many Alfa's and not enough time to drive them, it has been sitting in the garage along with my other Alfa's as well as another Giulia Super. I am in the midst of 2 Alfa restorations right now, and really need to free up some space. I really don't want to part with it, but realistically it will not be used or enjoyed the way it should be. With that said, I am hoping to find a good "Alfa" home for this very rare sedan. I would consider it "daily driver" type Alfa with plenty of patina, so you don't need to worry about using it. It's ultra reliable and always starts up. "Biscione" means "Snake" in Italian. The trim differences between a standard Super and the Biscione are as follows: 1. Recessed "Alfa Romeo" badge on the trunk. 2. Chrome center strip on hood. 3. "Biscione" badges on "C" Pillars 4. Chrome trim on rocker panels 5. First part of the headliner under visors are "black" 6. Chrome surroundings on interior light switch. This example is completely stock down to the original factory shift knob. Mechanically, the Alfa runs very nicely. Starts easily and is completely stock. As the pictures show, the engine compartment is very tidy and looks factory correct. There are no charging issues. No excess oil burning. Has plenty of power on the freeway and pulls nicely in each gear considering it's a 1600. Clutch and transmission work fine with no syncro issues that I can recall. As stated, this is a "hanging pedal" car with a hydraulic clutch. Much more modern and easy to use as compared to floor pedals in my opinion. U joints and driveshaft donut was fixed shortly after I purchased it. Exhaust is fine. Tires are all in good condition on original steel wheels & correct hubcaps. Known issues: at some point the ignition switch was bypassed due to a broken key, so now it just requires the pull of a switch (under the dash) and the push of a button to start it. I purchased a correct replacement switch, but frankly found it more convenient to use it the way it is. The replacement switch will be included in the sale. Transmission leaks oil. Some excess free play in the steering. Needs new toggle switch for the wipers. Has factory "Euro" headlights and also rear "fog" light. Brakes work fine as well as the electrics. Has new heater valve and fresh oil change. The interior is in very nice original condition as shown in the pictures. Considering it's over 40 years old, I would say it's almost mint except for the tear in the driver's seat. The dash is in great shape with a factory radio "block off " plate. Obviously features "Euro" gauges with speedometer in Kilometers per hour. Center console is very nice as well. Passenger seat and rear seat are in great condition. Door panels near perfect. All windows operate correctly as well as the interior door handles. Driver's seat fitted with Sheepskin seat cover due to rip in the seat. The body has an older repaint in it's original AR 343 Blu Olandese at some point while it was still over in Europe. It has held up pretty good and has the normal "wear" one would expect from a vintage unrestored Alfa. It has some nice patina and presents itself nicely as a "driver". As shown in the pictures, the passenger side shows some evidence of previous body work. There are some misc. spots where the paint has flaked off including under the front bumper. It does have some of the typical rust that Supers are noted for. These spots are limited to the following areas: both rear wheel arches, passenger side rear quarter panel (worst spot) and the lip of the hood. Floors and rockers are solid as well as the area under the radiator support. Trunk lid in nice condition with no rust issues. Both front and rear bumpers are in nice condition. In summary, this is essentially an all original unrestored Giulia Super. Far from perfect, but could be a great daily driver for the Alfisti that is looking for something a little bit different. Ultra reliable, I wouldn't hesitate to drive it anywhere. These sedans are a blast to drive, and will always get a "thumbs up" from fellow car enthusiasts! For those that have been priced out of the market and cannot afford to pay the high teens for a "Super", this may be the perfect alternative. The Alfa is being sold in "as is" condition with no warranty expressed or implied. I cannot be held responsible for any errors or inaccuracies that may have been inadvertently been provided. Please have your finds in order prior to bidding. Shipping is up to the buyer to arrange. As stated, the Super represents a wonderful opportunity for the Alfa enthusiast that is looking for a solid example at an affordable price. Comes with a clear Michigan title. Will need some general work/maintenance as noted in the description. The buyer should expect other normal wear and tear items to be addressed as would be expected of a 40 year old vintage sports sedan. Sold in "as is" condition with no warranty expressed or implied. I have done my best to describe the Alfa to the best of my ability, however there may be some things that I may have missed. It is up to the buyer to do due diligence when making a purchase online. Do not make any assumptions about anything. Ask any questions that may not have been addressed. I am not responsible for any errors or erroneous misinformation. I will be adding more pictures within the next few days. For the motivated buyer, I will consider ending the auction early for a serious offer, however I do not have a buy it now price set. The fine print: If you have 5 or less feedback transactions, you must contact me prior to bidding. A non-refundable deposit of $500.00 is due within 24 hours of the auction end. If the deposit is not received, the Alfa will be offered to the next highest bidder. The balance is due within 7 days of the auction end date. The car must be picked up within 10 days of the auction end date. A $10.00 per day storage fee will be charged after the 10 days unless prior arrangements have been made. I have sold several vintage cars to overseas buyers with the buyers being extremely pleased with the sale. "License Plates" not included. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact me. I will do my best to answer any questions you may have. On Apr-12-14 at 21:09:14 PDT, seller added the following information: I just took the Super out of storage this weekend to take some additional photos which have been added to listing. These photos highlight some of the noted rust areas on the quarter panel and lip on the hood. Additionally, I found 2 small bubbles near the gutter trim and a few other misc.rust spots which I had not noted since it's been primarily covered and stored. I also forgot to mention that there is a stone chip in the windshield on the driver's side. Lastly, I will be adding more pictures that shows the undercarriage. On Apr-14-14 at 15:34:25 PDT, seller added the following information: I had a chance to take the Super around the block yesterday. It fired up nicely and ran smoothly. When pulling up to my driveway I could hear a clunk in the right front which sounds like a lower ball joint or possibly sway bar bushing. Alfa Romeo unveils Formula One car for new season
Mon, Feb 18 2019MONTMELO, Spain — Alfa Romeo has unveiled the new Formula One car that will be piloted by former champion Kimi Raikkonen this season. Raikkonen, teammate Antonio Giovinazzi and team principle Frederic Vasseur posed with the white-and-burgundy Alfa Romeo C38 in the pit lane of the Barcelona-Catalunya Circuit before preseason testing started on Monday. Alfa Romeo is the rebranded name for the Sauber team this season. Raikkonen joined Alfa Romeo from Ferrari, where he won the Italian team's most recent drivers' title in 2007. The 39-year-old Finn is joined by Giovinazzi, a 25-year-old Italian with two Grand Prix races under his belt. Sauber finished eighth in the constructors' standings last year. More AP auto racing
Drive like Mario Andretti in his 1981 Alfa Romeo GTV-6
Sat, May 1 2021In the United States, Mario Andretti is the racing driver whose name is likely best known among the general public. Over his decades-long career, Andretti has driven into the winner's circle numerous times and in a variety of racing series and venues. He is an ex-Formula One champion (1978), a four-time IndyCar champion, as well as an Indy 500 winner (1969). And while we mere mortals probably cannot drive like Mario Andretti, we can drive one of Mario Andretti's cars, specifically this 1981 Alfa Romeo GTV-6, which is currently for sale at classic-car vendor LBI Limited. Based on the pictures of this Alfa, the car shows just under 36,000 miles. This GTV-6 is finished in Grigio over a tan leather interior. Power is by a 2.5-liter DOHC V6. Equipment includes a five-speed manual, power windows, air conditioning, a wood-rim steering wheel and a Blaupunkt cassette stereo. Andretti drove for the Alfa Romeo F1 team in 1981, and he also appeared in ads for the GTV-6. There was even a Mario Andretti limited edition of the earlier European-market Alfa Romeo GTV in 1976. This car reportedly was a gift from the automaker and was delivered in May 1981. He reportedly kept it for a year, although his ownership is documented (click the "View Documents" tab on the listing). The current asking price for this Alfa is $48,000, although there may be some wiggle room there, given that this car appears to have been a no-sale in a May 2020 RM Sotheby's auction where it garnered a high bid of $28,000. That's about $8K more than is sold for at auction in 2016, although the car is said to have since had thousands of dollars in service. Regardless of the price, this is a cool Alfa with a direct connection to America's most famous racing driver. Related video:
Alfa Romeo's new CEO sees room to bring back the GTV and the Duetto
Fri, May 21 2021Alfa Romeo is open to reviving the GTV and the Duetto, two of its most emblematic nameplates, in the coming years. Whether either model returns partially depends on how well the firm's more mainstream models sell. "I'm very interested in the GTV. There is no statement or announcement at this stage, but I'm just giving you a personal feeling that I'm very interested in the GTV. I also love the Duetto," said Jean-Philippe Imparato, the Peugeot veteran who became Alfa Romeo's CEO under Stellantis, in an interview with Australia's CarSales. It's far too early to tell what each model would look like with any significant degree of certainty. Besides, we've been here before: in 2018, former Fiat-Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) boss Sergio Marchionne outlined a born-again GTV with 600 horsepower, some degree of electrification, all-wheel drive, and seating for four when he presented Alfa Romeo's bold five-year plan. That model has been canned, along with a 700-horsepower halo coupe called 8C. Playing it safe, Imparato cautioned that neither two-door has been approved for production. Alfa Romeo's range currently consists of the Giulia, the Stelvio and the 4C, though the latter is a niche model at the end of its life cycle. It needs to achieve volume before executives can begin exploring coupe and convertible options, and we're in a market where the quickest and most effective way to increase sales is to make SUVs and crossovers. The next new addition to the Alfa Romeo range is widely believed to be the production version of the Tonale concept from 2019. "Allow me to bring Alfa Romeo to a certain level of economic performance, and then we speak," Imparato stressed. "In this time of big changes for the industry, the first priority is to protect Alfa Romeo and drive it through the challenges related to electrification, connectivity and safety," he added. Coupes and convertibles will come later. Interestingly, he strongly hinted the reports claiming the rear-wheel-drive Giorgio platform is on its way out are false. In Alfa-speak, the GTV nameplate traces its roots to the Bertone-designed 105-Series coupe released in 1963. It was called Giulia Sprint GT at launch, and it became the Giulia Sprint GT Veloce (which means "fast" in Italian) in 1965. GTV is the acronym that stuck throughout the model's career. Alfa put the nameplate on the coupe version of the Alfetta (pictured), and it added the 6 suffix when it stuffed the 2.5-liter Busso V6 in the engine bay.
