1969 Alfa Romeo Berlina 1750 on 2040-cars

Year:1969 Mileage:152000

Glendale, California, United States

Up for sale is a 1969 Alfa Romeo Berlina 1750 with a 2 Liter Engine and 5 Speed.

I am selling one of my 1969 Berlina daily drivers. This true sport sedan is equipped with a 2 Liter engine with SPICA injection and the Shankle Sure start. I have receipts and photos for the engine rebuilt dated 1993. The 1969 is the first year of official Berlina sales in the US. Not many imported into US, with perhaps a few hundred currently in the US with about half of those in running condition.

The Berlina is a true sport sedan. Light in handling with 2L giving it ample power, it will outrun most, if not all, European sport sedans of similar vintage especially on twisty roads where great handling is essential.

The Berlinas are 105 series cars and share quite a bit of mechanical hardware with the Giulia GT and the Spider - as evidenced by the 2L conversion something Alfa Romeo should have offered back in 1969. Parts are plentiful and inexpensive, making this car a unique budget classic daily driver. These cars are mechanically straight forward and the 2L power train is extremely reliable with proper and regular maintenance.

According to the history paperwork I have on this car, the gearbox was gone through at the time of the rebuilt with 3 new syncro rings and seals. The drive shaft bearing and the flexible coupling (guibo) has also been replaced at the same time.

I have just had Master Brake cylinder rebuilt by Santos and had him install OE switches for the fan and the wipers. Fan works on all speeds, the wiper only on one. The lights work, including the Euro side markers and license plate lights.

Previous owner has reconditioned the dash with undercoating to eliminate cracks, although there are few minor small cracks visible. Dash mouldings and 1750 dash emblem are present. I have the veneers off the car and will include these in the sale. Seats are in good condition but this being California they have some minor dry cracking on the top edges exposed to the sun. The car has front and rear seat belts. The headliner is in decent shape as can be seen from the pictures. The steering wheel is an original 1750 thin black rimmed wheel. It comes with the owners manual.

The all gauges work, including the clock! I have driven this car in the Los Angeles traffic and through the Malibu canyons. The temperature always stays within norm, it never overheated on me even in stop and go. The clutch is smooth, there is no usual 2nd gear grind. The brakes work great! I run Premium gas and the SPICA gives me pretty decent gas mileage with good power.

The cosmetics on the car are not perfect. The car is a 10 footer with visible blemishes in the clear on the roof and other places of the car. The paint on the right quarter has a good sized chip in it. According to the previous owner, the car had been rear ended at some time of its long life. There's no rust visible around the base of the glass front and rear. Previous owner did a rust repair on the driver's side floor.

Overall this is a pretty good daily driver Berlina. It is not original and is not being sold as a perfect car. It is a 45 year old Italian Sport Sedan that drives well, does not smoke or overheat, has good tires and a decent interior. This car is a very smart way to get into the classic car market. The 1969 Berlinas are only increasing in price as the vintage Alfa Romeo sport sedan market is heating up.

It is currently registered in California with registration good for most of the next year and has a CLEAN California Title. Please note that this car is exempt from California smog law. It can be driven as is or modified to your taste. I have set a fair reserve and the car is sold as is where is. No warranties are provided or implied.

Alfa Romeo Giulia leaks early

Tue, Jun 23 2015

The new Alfa Romeo Giulia is set to debut June 24, but the eagle-eyed folks at CarScoops already found these two somewhat blurry shots of the upcoming sedan. While there's unfortunately no photo of the front, these images give an idea of what to expect from Alfa's future four-door challenger to the BMW 3 Series and Mercedes-Benz C-Class. According to CarScoops, this is the Quadrifoglio Verde performance trim, and the blurry profile images certainly appear to show that insignia on the front fender. Don't worry about the mouthful of a name, though, because the far less vowel-filled Cloverleaf moniker is reportedly being used in some markets. Beyond the badge, this crimson Giulia has a short deck at the rear and large fender flares. Vents cut into the fenders also communicate the model's sporty intentions. The rear shot shows angular taillights and dual exhausts nestled in a diffuser down below. The Giulia badge is clearly visible, and there's a contrasting black lip spoiler running along the edge of the trunk. A set of black wheels completes the performance-tuned look. For now, hard facts about the Giulia's mechanical details remain largely a mystery. The engine range reportedly includes a V6 with some relation to Ferrari that possibly pumps out around 480 horsepower, and a turbocharged four-cylinder might also be available. Some portions of the chassis are rumored to be borrowed from the Maserati Ghibli, as well. A crossover sharing the same platform may join Alfa's lineup in 2016. Related Video:

2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia still makes us swoon

Wed, Sep 16 2015

It may have debuted in June, but Alfa Romeo's hot new Giulia makes its first public appearance at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show this week. And even though we've told you all there is to know right now, we just can't resist bringing you another set of photos, and another round of praise. Alfa is once again showing the Giulia in top-of-the-line Quadrifoglio spec, complete with a twin-turbocharged V6 that's said to make around 510 horsepower. We already know it sounds awesome, and all we can say is, watch out BMW M3. Alfa Romeo is quoting a 0-62 time of less than four seconds, and we're told the car will have the quickest steering in its class. Sounds good to us. The Giulia will officially launch in early 2016, and while the top-trim Quadrifoglio will probably start around $70,000 or $75,000, less-aggressive, more mainstream models will also be available. There's talk of four-cylinder power with both gasoline and diesel motivation, but it's unclear exactly what's in sore for the US-spec car. Still, it's exciting to see the new Giulia, and we're eager to drive Alfa's latest when it goes on sale next year.
Your browser does not support iframes.
Related Video:

Alfa Romeo working on high-performance engines

Wed, Dec 17 2014

During the big Fiat Chrysler Automobiles FCA US LLC announcement of its five-year plan earlier this year, the strategy for Alfa Romeo was easily summarized by brand boss Harald Wester: "Go back to the Alfa Romeo that people admired." Easier said than done. With the 4C as one step in that procedure, we might see the next when the company unveils its midsize sedan in June with a trio of new engines with up to 480 horsepower. Anonymous sources at suppliers are already making some big claims about the new mills to Automotive News Europe. The top of the heap is reportedly a 2.9-liter, twin-turbocharged V6 making up to 480 hp, based on the 3.0-liter engine in the Maserati Quattroporte and Ghibli. Below it is a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder that's claimed to produce between 180 hp and 330 hp for rear- or all-wheel drive applications. Finally, there's potentially a 2.2-liter turbo-diesel four with between 135 hp and 210 hp. Little has been officially announced about the midsize sedan, but it was possibly spied testing recently hidden under the body of a Ghibli. It was rumored to be rear-wheel drive with a size between the BMW 3 Series and 5 Series, and a high-performance GTA version was also speculated. According to ANE, the vehicle won't be called the Giulia and won't hit the market in the US until 2016. In addition to the midsize model's engines, FCA is also reportedly working on an updated version of its 3.0-liter diesel V6 sourced from VM Motori with new 275-hp and 340-hp versions. They are likely slated for Alfa's future large sedan and SUV.
