Hello, I am selling my 1991 Alfa Romeo 164  Electric Conversion.

I will do my best to describe the features of the vehicle as best I can, though, please see pictures. Ask all questions BEFORE bidding. You may call during daytime hours at 414-852-7526 or message through eBay
I have included many pictures, I will be adding more, and weather is supposed to get above 10 degrees out within the next day or two, so I am going to try and take some video of the vehicle in action and post that in the auction!
Test drives and viewings available by appointment during daylight hours. I am home most days taking care of my disabled son.

Original vehicle is a Alfa Romeo 164 L. Vehicle is EXTREMELY clean, with showroom clean interior. Even the original paper tag to show how to adjust the steering wheel is still hanging clean and crisp under the steering wheel!!!

The vehicle was a Garage Kept Vehicle, Sold here locally new to the original owner (I know the dealer that originally sold it on their lot). First 75,000 miles on the vehicle were done from 1001 through 1995 (based on vehicle maintenance reports). I do not have full history of vehicle, but will describe best I can. Vehicle was then sold sometime between 1995 and 1999 to a Elderly couple. It was the wife's garage car. She had it until 2011, between the time she purchased and sold it, she only put on and approx ~35000 miles. Not very many. Vehicle continued to be summer vehicle during that time, and garage kept and dealer serviced. Last owner purchased in 2011 from this lady. She sold it due to arthritis, she could no longer shift a manual transmission. I was told vehicle had basically been sitting for 2 years rarely driven. If you know anything about Alfa's, they are notorious for eating timing belts like a cop eats donuts. She sold it to a younger guy in his 20's looking for a "race car" to play with. These are FAST cars, my first one was a rocket!. Anyways, she told him to change timing belt before doing anything crazy with the car. He didn't listen, and on his way home from purchasing the car, he took it up to 130mph, and shredded the timing belt, destroying the motor.
Thats where I come in.
I, being a notorious Alfa Romeo Addict, picked up this Gem. What was a Mint vehicle before that yahoo blew the timing belt.
I brought it home for some tender love and care. I gave this Piece of Artwork on wheels a second life by converting it to 100% electric.

Now, for the fun part: Specs (Once again, If I have missed something or would like something answered CONTACT ME PLEASE).

Why am I selling this vehicle? Economy sucks, and so does Our countries Dictator. It's not getting any better, and I need the money to pay the bills so I am selling it to pay things off before Obama sticks his hands deeper into my wallet to give my hard earned money to more leaches of the system.

Overall Condition: Interior is practically flawless. Only real ware and tear item is the parking break cover is cracked (See pictures). Very little ware and tear. See pictures
Exterior is decent. No paint peeling, NO BODY RUST! Few small spots of bubbling paint in the usual areas by the wheel wells. Most cars of this age have lost a nice portion of their quarter panels due to rust! Like I say, this was a Honest to goodness Garage Car!
Minor paint scratches due to age and wear and tear. Minor age related dents here and their as well. Only real paint damage is on Passengers side door, where I was told the elderly lady that had owned it previously scrapped her husbins car backing it out of the garage one day. It has been touched up with touch up paint (by her, not me). See pictures.
Tires have decent tread left, all 4 Alfa Romeo Hubcaps are still their, as well as Alfa Romeo tire stem caps. See pictures for hubcaps.
Parking/Emergency breaks are not functional.
Front and rear bumper in great condition!
Once again, Please see pictures of vehicle for greater detail!

Now, What I have done to the vehicle:

Removed damaged engine, the gas tank, associated electrical and lines, hoses and components related to the internal combustion engine.
Most brake lines have been replaced
Clutch has been removed (Not required for my EV Conversion) but pedal is still in cab in case new owner wishes to add some sort of gizmo to the vehicle that may require it.

Headlights, Fog lights, and many other lights have been converted to LED to reduce power consumption.

Drive train:
ICE motor has been replaced with a Motenergy ME1002. This motor is rated at 63KW (83HP) Peak, and up to 550 amps.
Motor is specked for voltages up to 144 volts AC or DC.

Motor controller is a Curtis 1221C  Rated at 72-120v and 400 amp (Please see other comments below, as I have exceeded these specs for better performance).
Transmission is the original 4 speed manual, however, as Electric Motors do not "stall" like a gasoline engine does, clutch is unnecessary, and has been removed. You also have the option to either
shift or not to. If you wish to change gears, you just remove your foot from the accelerator, change gears and put your foot back down. It's that easy. You can also drive it like a direct drive vehicle.
Due to torque, first gear is not used (accept when creeping into a garage so you don't go out the other side if your foot slips), you can start in second gear, and leave it their for most city driving. Drop it into third gear for a highway, or fourth for freeway use.

Charger is a custom built ( build these chargers for many people and companies) capacitive charger. You can see my other auction listings where I sell smaller versions of the charger in this car. Capacitive chargers automatically regulate the voltage, and amperage needed for charging the battery pack. On a 110/120v 15amp power outlet, the charger is capable of charging any Lead Acid battery Pack from 12-170v, or 24-330v from a 220v power line.
Charger is NOT automatic (not a "smart charger") so it does not know when to turn itself off. That is why a timer has been added. Added bonus of  using these chargers, is due to their de-sulfation capibilities. The natural 120Hz pulsing from this charger help break up the sulfate crystals/keep them from forming, in lead acid batteries. Helping them to perform at their peak. The timer is a 12 hour timer. This vehicle, when Completely exhausted to the point where it cannot propel itself any longer, has never taken me more then 12 hours to recharge on a 120v outlet. You might wonder, wont it over charge the battery pack if it is on for 12 hours and you did not do a very far trip? Yes, it is possible, however, if you only do a short trip, you can set it much shorter time. Or, if you did a longer trip, but did not exhaust the batteries, you could set it for say 10 hours. Or even if you set it for 12 from a longer trip, the charging current would greatly drop off when coming to the end of the charge, and that current would go more twords desulfating your batteries, with minimal boiling of the batteries.
Recap: Charger can be used on 110/120v or 208-240v lines. Currently, I have a plug end for 110/120v 15 amp outlets, as the charging time of this vehicle is fairly decent for the battery pack size, I have never needed a faster charging method.

Battery pack consists of 11 x 12v Deep Cycle batteries, rated at 114 amp hours each. That means vehicle is operating at 132v.  Fully charged, pack reads approx 140-143v.  How is this possible with a 120v controller? All controllers have a build in overage margin. Even though bumping the pack from a 120v pack to a 132v pack by adding a extra battery is over manufacturers stated voltage, it is still well within safety specs and the margin the controller can safely handle. If you doubt the reliability of doing this, I have now put on over 7000 miles on this conversion with not a single issue. And that includes the Hottest Summer Milwaukee, WI has had in almost 100 years.

I have achieved a Maximum range of ~50 miles with this conversion, and a average of ~20 on a single charge. Your daily range can be more then doubled if you recharge at work or use opportunity charging. Ranges can very with electric cars greatly, depending on how you drive. To give you example on a more uniform vehicle, I have gotten over 130 miles on a single charge on a Nissan Leaf, where as others due to driving habits, can barely get 60 or 70. It's all on how you drive. I guarantee you, once you get used to driving a electric car for the best range, and then get in your old gas vehicle, you will see a significant increase in Mpg.

My cost to recharge is ~$0.25 at my night electrical rates of $0.05/kWh, at the US Average rates, it would cost $0.65 at $0.13/kWh.

Handling of the vehicle is good. Handles like a normal car. Operation is the same as a normal car as well. You get it, put on seat belt, insert key, turn key, put into gear, press accelerator and go. No magic, Just hop in and go like a regular gas car.

Due to removal of engine, Speedometer, tac, and odometer on the vehicle itself no longer function. The components for these on this specific vehicle needed to be removed with the engine. I use a iPhone App as a speedo, and gps. Works great (sorry, iPhone not included). In place of those gauges, is a Amp Meter and Volt Meter.

Alfa Romeos are notorious for their electric seats and electric windows not working. As of this writing, all the electric seats work fine (Just FYI, if they stop working, the Alfa Owners trick, is to tap the seat motor with a wrench and your good to go for a month or two!) All windows work accept passenger front. That one will go up but not down, I believe it needs a new window switch, as it will go down when I jump the wires. Rear window passenger works 98% of the time, but finicky switch as well, some times requires multiple presses.
Electric trunk release, and "gas cap" release work no problem. All Power locks work no problem.

Car comes with at least 2 keys, 4 keys if I can find the other two. (I believe I have them at work in my messy desk someplace!).

Includes good condition original Alfa Romeo Spare Tire & Jack. Neither look like they have ever been used.

Pictures show air condition compressor and air conditioning radiator, these are NOT included in Auction, as they have been removed after the pictures were taken. As their is no gas engine to turn the pully on the AC compressor, and not enough room in engine bay to properly mount the compressor to the electric motor, (despite the inefficiency of using the AC), they have been removed. I can include them for additional $375.
Vehicle also has no heat, electric heat can be added to vehicle though, I just never needed it. When It gets below freezing, I just take my gas car.

Top speed I have achieved for a short period of time was ~85mph. I could have gone faster, but I did not have a reason to, and did not feel liken damaging the motor or blowing up a controller. I did that once on a previous project of mine, and it turned into a very expensive repair.

Lastly, Vehicle is Sold As-Is. Buyer to pay $500 deposit within 24 hours of auction close (that's 24 hours, not Business Hours, 24 hours, I'm tired of non-paying bidders, and I will no longer tolerate them). Remaining balance is due within 72 Hours via CASH or CERTIFIED BANK CHECK. Vehicle will NOT BE RELEASED until payment is received in full. If paying remainder by Certified Bank Check, Vehicle will not be released until the check has 100% cleared at the bank. Returned checks will be assessed a stupidity fee of $50, and remittance will be accepted at that time in cash only. Sorry everyone, Tired of scam-ers, liars and cheats! Selling to US Bidders Only. Buyer to pay all associated Shipping or Freight fees for transporting vehicle. Buyer also responsible for arranging transportation of vehicle. Once again, payment must be made in FULL and Cleared before vehicle will be released to a shipper.
If you would like, I can deliver it within the continental US for a calculated fee based on total destination. Please contact me with your full address for a quote. Payment must be made in full and cleared including transportation charge BEFORE vehicle will be delivered.
No charge for picking up the car at my home.
Title is clear, and will be signed over to the new owner AFTER payment has been received in full and Cleared. If vehicle is being shipped, the title will be certified mailed to the new owners CONFIRMED E-BAY ADDRESS ONLY (Sorry Scammers). If picking up in person, title will be handed directly to new owner upon receipt of Full, Cleared Payment.

Sorry if the above is making me sound like a jack***, but after 12 years of selling on eBay, I'm tired of dealing with scammers, liars, cheats and morons.

Stellantis and LG launch joint venture for North American battery plant

Mon, Oct 18 2021

Stellantis has struck a preliminary deal with battery maker LG Energy Solution (LGES) to produce battery cells and modules for North America, as the world's No. 4 automaker rolls out its 30 billion euro ($35 billion) electrification plan. Global automakers are investing billions of euros to accelerate a transition to low-emission mobility and prepare for a progressive phase-out of internal combustion engines. Stellantis and LGES's joint venture will produce battery cells and modules at a new facility with an annual capacity of 40 gigawatt hours (GWh), the two firms said on Monday. No financial details of the deal were provided. The plant is scheduled to start production by the first quarter of 2024, with groundbreaking expected in the second quarter of 2022, the companies said in their statement. Its location is under review and will be announced later. Stellantis, formed in January from the merger of Italian-American automaker Fiat Chrysler and France's PSA, has said it wants to secure more than 130 GWh of global battery capacity by 2025 and more than 260 GWh by 2030. The batteries produced under the deal will supply Stellantis' U.S., Canadian and Mexican assembly plants for installation in hybrid and fully electric vehicles, supporting its goal of e-vehicles making up more than 40% of its U.S. sales by 2030. The company, whose brands include Peugeot, Fiat, Opel and U.S. best-sellers Jeep and Ram, earlier this year announced it would invest more than 30 billion euros through 2025 on electrifying its vehicle lineup. Stellantis has said it would build three battery plants in Europe and two in North America, including at least one in the United States. Intesa Sanpaolo analyst Monica Bosio said the deal was positive, and a further step ahead in Stellantis' electrification process. It comes weeks after Stellantis and its partner TotalEnergies agreed to open up their battery cell joint venture ACC to Daimler, to expand their European sourcing of battery cells. Stellantis is also targeting more than 70% of sales in Europe to be of low-emission vehicles by 2030, and aims to make the total cost of owning an EV equal to that of a gasoline-powered model by 2026. Alfa Romeo will gain a Jeep Compass-based SUV

Fri, Nov 30 2018

It was reported earlier this week that FCA would invest into its Italian factories to ramp up production at currently underutilized locations. Those plans have now been clarified with official information from FCA, as reported by Automotive News. The entire investment is worth $5.7 billion. First of all, Alfa Romeo will gain a new compact SUV based on the Jeep Compass architecture. The still-unnamed model will be available as a plug-in hybrid, and it will be built in Pomigliano, Italy. No U.S. availability has yet been announced, but it would not be odd to see the Compass-based model sold below the Stelvio in the States. The last time Alfa Romeo had anything similar in its model portfolio was when it offered Crosswagon-badged four-wheel-drive versions of the 156 and 159 wagons. As for the Jeep Compass itself, it will begin to be built at the Melfi plant in Italy. The rumored small "baby" Jeep slotting under the Renegade has not yet been officially mentioned. Fiat will introduce a battery electric 500, built in Turin, and the Pomigliano plant that will make the compact Alfa Romeo SUV will also be used to build a mild hybrid version of the Panda city car. The 500X will gain a PHEV variant. The Stelvio platform will also spawn a corresponding SUV for Maserati, and FCA also mentioned Maserati will introduce a new, unnamed model it will make in Modena. Automotive News quotes Italian press as saying this will be the Alfieri coupe and convertible, also offered as battery electric versions. Related Video:

Marchionne uses racial epithet to describe what must power future Alfa Romeo models

Wed, 16 Jan 2013

Sergio Marchionne and his Fiat empire have a lot riding on the US return of the Alfa Romeo brand. The endeavor has been in progress for what feels like a lifetime - certainly for as long as Fiat has had the Chrysler brand under its Italian wing.
It's not surprising that Fiat CEO Marchionne needs a perfect first Alfa to mark a return to America. And here's where things get dicey. Nobody would argue with Marchionne's insistence that Alfa Romeo's be powered by Italian engines - as Marchionne himself is quoted to have said at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show, "There are some things that are well done in Italy."
If not what he said, then, it's how he said it that has eyebrows raised. "I cannot come up with a schlock product, I just won't. I won't put an American engine into that car. With all due respect to my American friends, it needs to be a wop engine." Wait, what's that?
