2020 Acura MDX PMC Edition coming to L.A. Auto Show

The Acura TLX PMC Edition debuted at the New York Auto Show earlier this year, the 2020 Acura MDX PMC Edition takes its turn in Los Angeles on November 20. The MDX PMC, hand-built at the Performance Manufacturing Center like the Acura NSX and TLX before it, will be limited to 330 units. The 300 examples destined for the U.S. and 30 for Canada represent 30 fewer units than the quota for the TLX PMC. That could translate into tighter demand for the MDX PMC, since the standard crossover does about 70 percent more business in the U.S. than the standard sedan. The doted-on MDX PMC follows the formula of combining Valencia Red Pearl paint with the normally-exclusive Advanced and A-Spec packages. Dark contrasts come from the body color grille surrounding gloss-black mesh, black chrome exhaust finishers, gloss-black decorating the roof, antenna, exterior mirrors, window molding, rear license plate garnish, and door handles, and gloss black 20-inch wheels. Inside is found an A-Spec steering wheel backed by metal-finished paddle shifters, black Milano leather seats with Alcantara inserts, red stitching throughout, and an individually numbered plaque identifying the build number. Extra luxury kit includes GPS-linked climate control, climate-controlled front- and second-row seats with second-row captain's chairs, and 10-speaker ELS Studio audio. The engine specs don't change, those being a 3.5-liter V6 with 290 horsepower and 267 pound-feet of torque shifting through a nine-speed automatic. Super-Handling All-Wheel Drive keeps the power in shape. When the automaker laid down a marker for the TLX PMC price, it said to expect something around $50,000, the final figure after destination coming in at $50,945. Acura says to expect the MDX PMC to figure in the "mid-$60,000 range," so don't be surprised at $66K minus some change. 

Acura NSX EV puts winner Tetsuya Yamano back on Pikes Peak

With Pikes Peak right around the corner, Acura is showing off more details about its NSX-inspired all-electric racer. The four-motor EV will be driven in the Electric Modified Class by Tetsuya Yamano, who has been testing the car at the Hill Climb for the past few weeks. Acura is also running two NSX hybrids up the hill in the challenge next weekend. So, what's different inside this NSX-like EV? Like the all-electric Honda CR-Z that Yamano drove up Pikes Peak last year – winning the Challenge Exhibition class with a time of 10:23.829 – the NSX-inspired EV uses two Twin Motor Units (TMU) from the company's Sport Hybrid SH-AWD powertrain. Each axle has a TMU and that means that the car, "has achieved independent torque distribution to all four corners – true four-wheel torque vectoring," according to Acura. That sounds nice, but the real test will be out in Colorado in just a few days. "We've been tuning the car for several weeks at Pikes and have advanced its performance significantly," said Tetsuya Yamano. 2014 Acura MDX goes for a camouflaged cruise

While the often misunderstood (and infrequently purchased) Acura ZDX may be going the way of the dinosaur, the company's far more conventional and successful MDX SUV is evolving. In fact, the 2014 MDX seems to be coming along rather nicely, if this latest set of spy images is any indication.
In the camouflaged prototype we see here, it is evident that Acura designers are going for a beefier look for the MDX front end. The current car's pointed and beaked nose are nowhere in evidence on this tester, though some version of Acura's prominent shield grille does seem to remain.
It's a bit difficult to tell if the shape of the glasshouse is much revised on this new car, as the camo is applied in such a fashion as to obscure the post C-pillar design. But it does seem as though, when we look hard at the full-profile shots of the MDX, that the wheel-arch bulges and side character lines of the current vehicle have been replaced with much simpler surfacing.
