Honda signs on as Pikes Peak sponsor, race participant

Honda plans to storm the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb on June 30, entering ten cars in nine classes at the race to the sky, and signing on as a corporate sponsor. Part of the company's return to grassroots racing - if that's what you can call factory-backed efforts - the banners of Honda R&D and Honda North America will fly on these entries: a first-gen Acura NSX, an Acura TL SH-AWD, Honda CR-Z, Honda Fit EV, one CRF450R and two CRF250R motorcycles, a CBR1000RR motorcycle and a TRX450 ATV.
One more entry, details of which are to be announced later, will be driven by IndyCar pilot Simon Pagenaud of Schmidt Hamilton HP Motorsports. LoveFab (pictured above during practice last year) will be there with its new, NSX-based Enviate, but as a privateer entry.
Honda's been to the mountain before, with high-powered gear in 2012 and record-setting EVs in 1994 and 1999, but it's never made noise like this. Have a read of the press release below for more info.

Acura to unveil 2019 RDX production version in New York

Acura says it will unveil the all-new 2019 RDX crossover at the New York International Auto Show along with a new A-Spec sport variant. Acura unveiled the RDX Prototype in January in Detroit, saying it was a close representation of the production version, save for the more concept-y side mirrors and larger wheels. It released a teaser image Monday of the A-Spec front end featuring a special badge along the side fender. It's the first application of the sport appearance, which the company says "adds sport appearance detailing, inside and out," on an Acura SUV and is supposed to be part of all core Acura models in the future. View 12 Photos Due to go on sale midyear, the 2019 RDX was designed and developed in the U.S. for the first time. Its styling is courtesy of the brand's design studio in Los Angeles, while engineering was handled in Raymond, Ohio. It's set to be built at Acura's assembly plant in East Liberty, Ohio, while the 2.0-liter four-cylinder VTEC Turbo engine will be made in nearby Anna, Ohio. The third-generation of the crossover takes its cues from the Precision Concept and Precision Cockpit concept, both from 2016. It gets a new Acura-only platform that sheds weight and stiffens the body, and it adds more interior space, rear legroom and cargo space, a panoramic sliding moonroof. Acura NSX ScienceofSpeed Dream Project brings another wing to SEMA

Acura rolled into SEMA last year with its non-hybrid NSX GT3 race car, that FIA spec-series competitor pulled to Vegas on a trailer behind a GT3-themed Acura MDX. Sticking with the GT3 theme this year but going road-legal, Acura worked with Arizona-based ScienceofSpeed on a GT3 package that NSX owners can put in driveways. The result is the lower, more powerful, more wing-y NSX "Dream Project." Liquid-cooled injecting for the twin-turbo boosts output, adding 37 horsepower for a total of 610, and another 31 pound-feet of torque to register 507. A lightweight steel exhaust sheds 16 pounds and bestows those magnified numbers with magnified bass. A custom suspension drops the coupe by a little more than an inch, a custom iLIFT suspension add-on automatically raises the front axle two inches if the NSX detects a hurdle. The ScienceofSpeed aero kit includes all you'd expect from the alphanumeric "GT3:" front strakes, wider rocker panels, larger rear diffuser, a rear wing, gold powdercoated carbon ceramic Brembo brakes, and wider Pirelli Trofeo R tires wrapped around Advan GT forged wheels. Drench the package in two-tone Andaro Nouvelle Blue Pearl and gloss black roof, and the NSX Dream Project's ready to be driven from climate-controlled garage, to parking-lot car show, back to climate-controlled garage. If the owner decides to test a limit or two, Recaro Pole Position seats and a gaugeART OLED display will keep him locked in and informed. Related Video:
