2002 Acura RSX Type-S, 6spd, roughly 65K miles, Desert Silver Metallic

Need to get rid of this. No one uses it anymore so it just gets in the way most of the time.

2002 Acura RSX Type-S in Desert Silver Metallic. 6-speed manual, 65K miles, rebuilt trans and new clutch a few thousand miles ago done at the dealer. Has some dings and scratches from daily use over the years, though nothing major. Just had the O2 sensor replaced, which is a common thing. Does need one headlight bulb -- didn't have time to replace that.

Non-smoker. Leather in decent condition minus the wear and some tears. Replaced the 6-disc in-dash with a normal head unit. It sounds better and has an AUX input for easy connection of iPod/iPhone/whatever.

Mechanically, it's very well maintained. Regular oil changes, relatively new tires in good condition, drives as I remember it. 20-30K of the miles were mainly highway miles in the last 2-3 years. Has a cold air intake that I did ages ago and that's it. Trans was rebuilt because the synchros went on the original. Clutch was done at the same time. Brakes I'm not sure about, but they work fine. I remember my cousin getting new pads not too long ago. Car should last a really long time. Just look at all the other RSXs available with waaaay higher miles.

Aside from the cosmetic stuff, it's a solid car that has never given me any problems. Was never in the shop for anything other than some brakes and the previously mentioned transmission rebuilt. I haven't driven it in years, but my cousin drove it regularly to work the last few years (where half the miles came from) and said it's the same as always. Gets like 30mpg IIRC.

I guess I'm technically not the first owner. I bought it in 2003 with 4K miles on it. I've had it ever since. Driven by me for half the miles from 2003-2008, and then for the other half of the miles by my cousin from probably 2010-2012. He bought a new car and so now this one is no longer needed by anyone.

Car is sold as is and there is no implied warranty. The mileage I listed is a rough estimate since I'm not at home right now to check exactly what it is. It might even be 64XXX. Car is located in SE Michigan. Your responsibility to pick up or organize shipping, though I will do my best to help coordinate that. I require a non-refundable $500 deposit upon winning the auction.

Thanks for looking!

The all-women Acura NSX team previews a way forward for racing

Wed, Jan 30 2019

DAYTONA, Fla. — There is a team at the 24 Hours of Daytona that's just like any other team, with experienced drivers who rightly earned their spot in the top endurance racing series in America. They are prepared to run a full season in a competitive car, and they even set the fastest time in their class at the pre-season Roar Before the 24 test. The only difference between this team and any other is that its drivers happen to be women. We went to Daytona to talk to them about their journey to the race. The No. 57 Heinricher Racing with Meyer Shank Racing Acura NSX GT3 Evo team features a roster of talented, experienced drivers: Katherine Legge, Simona de Silvestro, Bia Figueiredo and Christina Nielsen. While there have been four other all-women lineups at Daytona before, the No. 57 team is the first to be considered truly competitive. Team founder Jackie Heinricher, a biotech CEO who has raced in Ferrari Challenge, Global Rallycross Lites and Lamborghini Super Trofeo, was coached by Legge. Two years ago, she had the idea to run a car full of women – and not just a token effort, but rather a car full of drivers who could win. "The car does not know your gender, and I feel as if this sort of professional effort legitimizes that in a way that's particularly important and inspirational outside of racing," Heinricher told Autoblog. Heinricher had seen Legge struggle to get the right funding for rides before, so she didn't want to limit this team to whoever could pay. So, she first lined up the funding, thanks largely to support from primary sponsor Caterpillar. It took awhile, though, as many companies simply told her that they were out of racing sponsorships entirely. "I think perseverance might be the most underrated human quality," Heinricher said. "I just didn't give up." After funding was in place, she found a competitive partner in the Meyer Shank Racing crew, whose owner Michael Shank has run a pair of factory-backed Acura NSX GT3s in IMSA's GTD class since 2017. The GT3 shares an engine and turbo with the road-going NSX but ditches the hybrid system, making it about 670 pounds lighter. The No. 57 car is an EVO variant, which Legge helped develop, and it features improved aerodynamics to better suit it to the mix of pro and amateur drivers who take shifts racing in the GTD class. Legge had been on Shank's NSX team for the past two years as well, so Heinricher reached out to her for help assembling women who truly had the ability to win.

Acura aiming for Chinese production by 2016

Fri, 19 Jul 2013

Not wanting to be left out of the emerging luxury car bonanza in China, Automotive News is reporting that Acura could begin producing vehicles in the Asian country by 2016. Like Audi, Mercedes-Benz and BMW, Acura will reportedly build vehicles in China using a local partner - Guangzhou Automobile Group Co. in Acura's case - while Cadillac and Infiniti will build their own vehicles locally.
Guangzhou already produces Honda models in China, but the article says that the first Acura produced in that country could be a new compact model based on the Acura SUV-X Concept (shown above), a showcar revealed in April at the Shanghai Motor Show. China's luxury car market is expected to grow to 2.7 million units a year by the end of this decade, which would put it on pace to make it the largest premium car market in the world.

Answering The $30,000 Entry-Level Luxury Question
Twenty years ago, a comparison between an entry-level Buick and Acura would have matched a Skylark against an Integra.
Twenty years ago, a comparison between an entry-level Buick and its Acura equivalent would have matched a Skylark against an Integra. The unfair battle would have resulted in the compact American's defeat in nearly every measurable category, as the Japanese competitor was arguably at the height of its powers.
