One of the finest NSX's anywhere, adult owned and meticulously pampered!

I am the 3rd owner of this stunning 1998 Berlina Black on Black, adult owned, never tracked, meticulously maintained NSX-T.  I have only owned it for about one year.  I am selling simply because age related issues make it difficult for me to enjoy the car (I'm an old semi-retired optometrist and it's difficult for me to get in and out of the car), but I don't think it should be sitting under cover in my temperature controlled garage. It needs to be driven!!! The car was purchased last year in Plano, Texas where it spent its entire life.  It was serviced there at the same Acura dealer its entire life by one tech (Carl).  A lot of maintenance receipts, parts receipts, and other documentation are available to show just how well this car has been taken car of.  It is a rare automatic, and it is extremely strong and very enjoyable to drive. I realize many of you may prefer a six speed manual but, I think this automatic holds its own and is a blast to drive, and I never had any desire to track it anyway.   It has lots of power, and if you prefer you can use the "power shifter" on the steering column or the on the floor.  New factory OE door grips and handles and knee boltsers were installed last year at a cost of $1500.  It looks and feels brand new to me inside. The car is beautiful cosmetically and mechanically.  There ARE NO ISSUES.  It runs great, sounds great, shifts smooth and with runs with authority. If you want a great handling car along with a lot of attention this is the car for you

All of the expensive stuff has already been done, and the receipts are available.  Belts, water pump, timing belt, AC service, CV boot, Valve adjustment and cam plugs, transmission service and more.  The previous owner of eight years pampered this NSX, and I have continued to do so while I've owned it. It was recently professionally detailed and it looks amazing.  Oil changes using Mobil one have been done every 3000 miles.  The previous owner had installed new Bridgestones on the rear, the fronts didn't need them.  If you want them, a second set of 4 Bridgestones with the original factory wheels are available.

All of the the typical NSX issues were taken care of.  The factory new climate control and main fuse were attended to.  I have had no mechanical issues with it in the time that I have owned it.  The plugs were changed one year ago. You can buy the car and immediately enjoy it, because it has no issues. The car is a show stopper, and gets unbelievable attention wherever I drive it.  If you don't like being asked questions about your when you drive it, then don't buy this one.   I have all of the original stock parts for the car including the original wheels and set of tires, struts, side skirts, intake, muffler and more. Some after market parts are also available including a nose bra, mirror bra, interior aluminum trim parts, and a satin car cover. The modifications that have been made on the car were tastefully done and are only cosmetic.  They are completely reversible if you are a NSX purist.

The cosmetic mods include the following:

Wings West Side Skirts and Spats,
JIC Coil Overs adjustable from the top, with fully adjustable height and ride. Rides better than stock
I-Forged 2 piece wheels, black center, polished lip, 17's on front, 18's on rear
Comptech aluminum engine brace
Machined aluminum trim rings around gauges, and extra trim pieces uninstalled
Ark quad tip exhaust and Downforce Air Intake (adds about 10-15 hp)
2 Sets of floor mats, New NSX "R" style red trim
Seats reupolstered with new perforation black leather from Leatherseats, com (original seat covers available)
I-pod and I-pod adapter with USB adapter from Grom. CD changer
Nose/bumper repainted by Acura dealer.  Looks great!

I purchased the car last year, after seeing it on eBay.  I flew to Plano to inspect it, and afterward, I had it delivered to  my home in an enclosed trailer by  a professional classic car transportation company.  I live about 30 miles directly west of Pittsburgh, PA.  Since I have owned the car I have only driven it a little over 400 miles.   An issue that perplexed me and annoyed me after I initially listed it on eBay is the difference in the rating score given by Autocheck this year compared to last year.  Last year on eBay it was rated a 97 and this year its lower, and I don't understand why.  There are no issues with the car that have occurred within the last year. It makes no sense to me because  the only notable change from last year to this year is an additional owner (me) and about 400 additional miles on the odometer.  I have probably pampered the car even more than the other two owners.  It looks even nicer than when I bought it.  This NSX is definitely still above range vs. similar 1998 sports cars.  It is upper premium, and its a heck of lot easier to maintain than some of the other exotics.

That's basically the story of my NSX.  Again, the car is in excellent condition mechanically and cosmetically, but it is fifteen years old and is being sold "As Is" with no warranties written or implied.   If you look hard enough you might find a couple of minor flaws, but I don't think you'll find a nicer one for sale that has been pampered and serviced like this one.

If you or a representative would like to inspect the vehicle, please contact me to make arrangements. If you're serious about the car and you need additional information you can reach me by phone at (304) 491-2020.  If I'm examining a patient or otherwise unable to take your call, leave your number and I will return your call as soon as possible.  The NSX is listed for sale locally and in other venues; therefore, I retain the right to remove the eBay listing if it is no longer available.  Thanks for looking and have a wonderful day.

Acura NSX will use Cosworth block, plus other neat tidbits

Sat, Aug 15 2015

The blue NSX you see here was built just two weeks ago. Prototype number six, it rolled off Acura's newest assembly line in Ohio and was rushed out to the Monterey peninsula for various car week activities. We had a chance to sit down with several members of the NSX team to discuss the car, the long road from concept to production, and some interesting details. Below are some choice bits from our conversations. Acura is pretty proud of the fact that NSX version 2.0 was designed and is being built in the US. The new assembly line, called the Performance Manufacturing Center, is in Honda's hometown of Marysville, Ohio. While the line is brand new, the building has seen many uses over its lifetime, most recently as a warehouse facility. PMC staff numbers about 100, with 60 technical and 40 non-technical associates. The car uses parts sourced globally, and one of those sources is Cosworth. The engine blocks and heads come from the English firm and get assembled into twin-turbo powerhouses at Honda's nearby Anna, Ohio, engine plant. The Cosworth name is rarely associated with a bad engine, so we were geeked to hear the NSX's 550-plus-horsepower hybrid powertrain has good genes. Acura hasn't decided how many cars will come to the US each year, but supplies will be limited. We're told there is a total figure for global sales – basically anywhere Honda and Acura vehicles are sold – but they're not ready to divulge that number. Dealer allocation is also yet to be sorted out, although we're told that any dealer that has the necessary tools and equipment to service the new NSX will be able to sell them. Acura currently has 272 US dealers. The switch from the transverse engine originally planned to a longitudinal twin-turbo engine threw everyone involved for a loop. The designers had to lengthen their nearly finalized design, and the engineers working on the production process had to revise or redo much of their work. Though we've been waiting a while for the car since the concept first surfaced in 2012, it's pretty amazing to think that the car was engineered one and a half times and a new factory was built in about three years. But yeah, it's delayed, with series production now set to commence in the spring of 2016. One result of the switch to a longitudinal engine is a transmission hump in the cargo area aft of the engine. The hold is still sized to fit a bag of golf clubs, though it will be a tight fit.

Ford, Toyota clean up in Best Car For The Money Awards

Fri, 22 Feb 2013

The U.S. News Best Cars for the Money Awards picks winners by looking at the average transaction price, five-year total cost of ownership, the regard a car has from the automotive press, reliability figures from J.D. Power and Associates and safety data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. The result, according to the magazine, is "the best combination of critical acclaim and long-term value."
Ford nabbed six of the 21 categories that received awards this year, the Focus, Fusion, Fusion Hybrid, Taurus, Escape and Edge getting trophies. Toyota and its Lexus and Scion sub-brands took another five, the Tacoma and Tundra owning the two categories given to pickup trucks. The other ten awards were split between Honda with three, Buick with two, and one each for Subaru, BMW, Hyundai, Chevrolet and Mazda.

Acura NSX to race in GT3 or GTE

Mon, Aug 10 2015

Honda is reportedly planning to roll out a racing version of the new Acura NSX. It just hasn't decided yet on which class it wants to enter it into, to whose specifications it will build it, and which department will be tasked with the project. The original NSX competed principally in Japan's own Super GT series. So did the subsequent HSV-010 GT that was originally designed to be the NSX's replacement. But Acura's new supercar is as much an American vehicle as a Japanese one, and as such it looks more likely to compete on American soil. The options which Honda is considering boil down to GTE and GT3. What's the difference, you ask? Until just a few years ago, international sports car racing was split between GT1, GT2, GT3, and (to a lesser extent) GT4 classes. GT1 was phased out in 2009, GT2 was reformatted into GTE (with both Pro and Am categories), while both GT3 and GT4 carried on. Today GTE is run at the 24 Hours of Le Mans and its associated championships around the globe: the FIA World Endurance Championship, the European Le Mans Series, the Asian Le Mans Series, and the United SportsCar Championship. Meanwhile GT3 is run in series like the Blancpain Endurance Series and a growing number of regional championships. (GT4 is run in lower-level series for amateur racers.) Acura currently runs the TLX-GT in the Pirelli World Challenge here in America. But as the series moves to GT3 specifications as well, the company is facing the decision of either adapting the existing racer to the new regulations (and coming away with a potentially compromised package), or replace it entirely. The NSX could prove just the ticket, however the GTE class may ultimately give it more exposure. Whichever rulebook Acura opts to play by, it likely won't be running under hybrid power – an element which would add complication but not necessarily much benefit under current regulations. The automaker will also have to decide who will develop the new NSX racer, with both California-based Honda Performance Development (HPD) and Italian outfit JAS Motorsport (which fields Honda's WTCC team) eyed as potential candidates.
