Good Samaritans lift car off of hit-and-run victim

Strangers came to an elderly man's rescue in the Bronx over the weekend after he was dragged under a car by a hit-and-run driver. The 68-year-old man was hit by a red 1997 Acura Integra while crossing a street in a crosswalk on Saturday. Witnesses told CBS 2 the driver didn't stop after striking the man, but dragged him for a quarter mile before parking the car and fleeing on foot. People in the neighborhood who saw the crash ran to help the man as he lay injured underneath the car. It took seven bystanders to free the injured man. Some witnesses chased after the driver, but he managed to escape. Police did not identify the victim. They told the station that he is in critical, yet stable condition at Jacobi Medical Center. The driver who hit him has not been identified. This crash comes less than a week after another driver in the Bronx was caught on surveillance cameras backing into a 51-year-old woman and then driving away. Acura already planning NSX Type R?

Acura just took the wraps off the production version of its long-awaited new NSX, but rumors are already circulating of an even hotter version to follow. Meeting up at the Detroit Auto Show this week, Auto Express asked the NSX's chief engineer Ted Klaus about the prospect of a Type R version in the future, to which he reportedly answered: "I think everyone who loves cars wants to see a version that we say is pure red. The NSX has always been silver first, moving towards red later. Someone asked me, 'when will you be satisfied?' Probably never. What you do today, you can improve on tomorrow." That doesn't mean that tomorrow will actually come tomorrow, but it does speak to a spirit of improvement on the NSX team that could stand to keep the American-made Japanese supercar on the knife's edge and out in front of the competition, which Klaus identified as including the Ferrari 458, Audi R8 V10 and Porsche 911 Turbo. The previous model bred the NSX-R two years after its release (in the Japanese domestic market anyway), benefiting from a 265-pound weight reduction, a stiffer suspension, and though never officially confirmed, a long-suspected bump in output. The future of Acura is coming to Detroit

What you're looking at here is a teaser of the Acura Precision Concept – a showcar that will introduce the new design language for the brand. Acura is determined to inject some a larger performance aura into its brand, and for now, it plans to do that with stronger design language. "The Acura Precision Concept will serve as the inspiration for the styling and proportion of the next-generation of Acura vehicles, especially for our sedans," says design director Dave Marek. We like what we see, too. The showcar has a long hood, short rear deck, and very strong character lines down the side. Those are classic rear-wheel-drive proportions, but as we know, that's kind of a long-shot for a new Acura. We'll see the full concept at the Detroit Auto Show in January.
