Up for sale is a 2005 Acura Mdx Touring model with the 3.5L Acura V6 engine with 5spd automatic transmission in great condition. The Touring model is the optioned out model and this MDX is LOADED. Acura Navigation, Onstar, Rain sensing wipers, Auto headlights, Power seats w/ memory, Cd player/changer, XM satellite radio, Back up Camera, Rear Climate control, 3rd Row seating, Rear Subwoofer, Power Moonroof, Power Windows, Heated Seats, 4wd and Auto Climate Control.
The Exterior Walkaround: Overall the exterior is an 8 out of 10 for a vehicle that's nearly 10 yrs old. A few minor dents and dings are present and the vehicle has light surface scratches on several doors. The rear bumper has scuffs and some dents from a light rear bump with a sharp object. From 10 feet away these imperfections are difficult to see. All painted surfaces match, panel gaps are aligned and all doors open and close with ease. Options/Mechanical info: Overall a 9.5 out of 10. This MDX has no oil leaks, the transmission shifts great and the fluid is red, not burnt. All of the fluids, Transmission, brake, coolant and the Rear Differential fluid has been serviced in the past 15k miles. The tires are nearly new, as are the brakes. The Timing belt was just changed as well. Mechanically, a used car doesnt get any better that this. A short service history is available on the carfax report to confirm some of these repairs. The Air Conditioning blows cold and 4wd works as it should as well. The Test drive: This vehicle starts quickly, has great power and stops great without any abnormal noises or concerns. There are no dash lights on during driving and the transmission shifts just like it should. The steering wheel is free of any odd vibration and the suspension soaks up bumps as it should. The tires aren't noisy at all and show a nice even wear pattern. There are no interior rattles or interior noises that need addressing. The Audio unit works great and XM is also working as it should. The heater and air conditioning works great as well. Cruise control works perfectly as do all power seats, mirrors and auto features. This vehicle is a turn key used car that needs no major or minor repairs to make it roadworthy or safe. Known Issues: There are 2 known issues that are minor. The driver side seat heater is either slow to heat up or doesn't work at all. The passenger side seat heater works great. The bluetooth handsfree link doesn't seem to work all that well. This is a feature that is part of the Navigation system. I haven't use it extensively but believe its malfunctioning so I stopped using it. The carfax report shows passenger side front damage at some time during this vehicles' life. All the other Acura VIN stickers are present on all other body panels beside the passenger front fender. Items included: This vehicle comes with the radio/navigation security PIN card (a must have in case of needed repairs), all factory OEM Acura floor mats and OEM Acura Roof rack and Crossbars. I purchased this vehicle to replace an older Toyota Sequoia but have decided to sell this Acura instead. 530,000 Hondas, Acuras under expanded NHTSA investigation for steering problem
Mon, Dec 4 2023Earlier this year, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration opened an investigation into the 2022 and 2023 Honda Civic. The agency had received 145 complaints from owners stating that the car suddenly exhibited “sticky steering” and increased steering effort. WeÂ’re now learning that the investigation is expanding to include hundreds of thousands more cars. The original probe included around 238,000 Civics, but the NHTSAÂ’s latest report, issued Friday, noted that the investigation is expanding to include more than 530,000 Hondas and Acura vehicles. The 2022 and 2023 Honda Civic, 2023 Honda CR-V, and 2023 Acura Integra are affected. A drastic increase in complaints drove the expansion, as the NHTSA said it had received 1,300 reports and was aware of at least 14 crashes related to the problem. An alarming 11 of those crashes involved a roadway departure due to loss of steering control. Two of them came after the driver allegedly overcorrected, and there are three known injuries from the crashes. NHTSAÂ’s report found that the problem happened primarily in the winter months and after the car had been driven in a straight line for an extended period to warm up the vehicle and gear. Though alarming, itÂ’s worth noting that this investigation has not yet reached the recall stage. Honda acknowledged the problem, noting that it was a manufacturing issue for the steering gear unit. The manufacturing process created conditions that could cause greater internal stress, which can wear and deform the gears inside the steering component. The NHTSA also found that the factory did not guarantee consistent lubrication throughout the gear, which could be the cause of the temporary increase in steering effort. The automaker directed its dealers to replace the electronic power steering gearbox to correct a manufacturing defect, but NHTSA will continue its process, moving to an engineering analysis. If that study finds a defect, it could request a recall. Government/Legal Acura Honda Safety
Inside Honda's ghost town for testing autonomous cars
Thu, Jun 2 2016On the edge of the San Francisco suburb of Concord, California sits a ghost town. Dilapidated buildings and cracked roads are framed by overgrowth and slightly askew street signs. The decommissioned five acre portion of the Concord Naval Weapons Station that once housed military personnel and their families is now home to squirrels, jack rabbits, wild turkeys and Honda's mysterious testing lab for autonomous vehicles. This former town within a Naval base – now dubbed "GoMentum Station" – is the perfect testing ground for Honda's self-driving cars. An almost turn-key solution to the problem of finding somewhere to experiment with autonomous vehicle inside an urban area. Thanks to the GoMentum Station, the automaker has access to 20 miles of various road types, intersections and infrastructure exactly like those found in the real world. Just, you know, without all the people getting in the way. While the faded lane markers and cracked asphalt might initially make it difficult for the car to figure out what's going on around it, that's exactly what you want when training a self-driving system. Many roads in the real world are also in dire need of upkeep. Just because autonomous vehicles are hitting the streets doesn't mean the funding needed to fix all the potholes and faded lane markers will magically appear. The real world doesn't work that way and the robot cars that will eventually make our commutes less of a headache will need to be aware of that. Plus, it's tougher to train a car to drive downtown than to barrel down the highway at 80 miles per hour. A company is going to want to get as much practice as possible. While semi-autonomous driving on the everyone-going-the-same-way-at-a-constant-speed freeway is already a reality, navigating in an urban environment is far more complex. If you've driven on the streets of Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York, Chicago or Seattle you know that driving downtown takes far more concentration than cruising down the interstate. With all that in mind, Honda's tricked out Acura RLX did a good job during an (admittedly very controlled) hands-free demo. It didn't hit either of the pedestrians walking across its path. It stopped at stop signs and even maneuvered around a mannequin situated in the middle of the road. The reality is, watching a car drive around the block and safely avoid stuff is boring. Not to metion, Google has been doing this for a while in the real world.
Acura RLX will die after 2020 model year
Fri, May 15 2020Only Acura knows why its flagship RLX sedan is still on sale; every year that we had occasion to remember the RLX — which wasn't every year — seemed like a good year to let the car die peacefully. Automotive News reports the deed is finally done, or rather, will be at the end of 2020, when Acura discontinues the model that started with the RL in 1996. Honda told U.S. dealers yesterday that in other markets like Japan, the four-door will continue to sell as the Honda Legend. Honda's comment to AN included, "With SUVs leading the luxury market, the highly successful RDX and MDX now serve as volume leaders of the Acura brand," and, "We will further strengthen our sports sedans, consistent with the performance-focused direction we have been taking Acura over the past four years." Speaking of the devil, the RL and RLX — and Acura as a brand — never got out from under the weight of the Legend sedan, that ancestor being the second of Acura's three albatrosses after the original NSX and the Integra. The RL never equaled the Legend's worst year of U.S. sales. The RLX, a combination of arousing performance under anodyne styling costing premium German money, might have performed the same feat viz the RL, but the RL sold less than 5,000 units here for the last five years of its life. The RLX has only exceeded 5,000 sales once, in 2013. Last year, 1,019 units found buyers. Acura's focus now is the NSX halo and the continuing overhaul of the volume lineup. The new RDX is going great guns, the new MDX crossover is due this year. The slightly larger and Type S concept-inspired TLX sedan is expected to be another gift to 2020, followed by the return of a bona fide Type S next year, after which the ILX compact sedan gets its turn. Last year was the first time in five years the TLX dipped below 30,000 sales in the U.S., impressively steady going for a segment with shocking attrition. Although the demise of the RLX gives up on the aspiration for a big luxury flagship, the coming TLX should help us forget what the RLX represented. If we hadn't already.
