1997 Acura Integra Type R Built Motor And Great Track Suspension Clean Recaros on 2040-cars
Redwood City, California, United States
I purchased the car from an owner in WA in NOV of 2012 and have owned it in CA. Car currently has about 103K miles on it. I've taken it to about 6 trackdays. Most of the description below is from the previous owner with me adding things where they have changed or been updated. This is a very capable track car and can be street driven with a full interior, clean trunk. Car will get you 25mpg regular driving.
1997 Integra Type-R #0110 Clean WA state title The good: • Clean Title • Straight body • No major damage • Clean Interior (no smoking/pets) • Well maintained • Comes with lots of extras, including rebuilt VIN matching B18C5 block The bad: • Couple small scuffs/nicks/scratches on exterior • Front lip has a big crack in it, together now with a brace and ductape • Front bumper, hood & fenders replaced by previous owner after front-end collision (OEM parts) Story: This is a well maintained 1997 Integra Type-R with a number of modifications, but also included are a majority of the OE parts required to return the car to near-stock. #0110 was purchased from the original owner in 2003 100% stock minus the JDM 16” wheels and modified Koni shocks. #0110 was my daily driver until 2005 at which point she went under the knife for a 2.0L track-car build. #0110 attended ITR Expo-5 in Omaha Nebraska in 2005, and has been a garage queen and occasional weekend car since. Since I took ownership in 2003, #0110 has attended about a dozen HPDE’s, and just about as many passes at the drag strip. I am selling #0110 because I’m just not getting the enjoyment out of her that I used to. I have a new toy to occupy my time (and money). The engine build started in 2005. The 2.0L block now has about 25,000 miles, but despite its age the engine is still strong. I touched up the tune in early June 2012 and made 233whp and 159wtq on a DynoJet, which are the highest numbers yet. Before the dyno compression was 230/250/250/240, so the engine is healthy but starting to show its age. The oil is changed every few months (~500 miles) with Mobil1 5w30 Synthetic with OEM filter (15400-PLM-A01 Filtech). Valve adjustments are performed every-other oil change. The car still has the factory equipped Air Conditioning (charged) but needs a belt to operate. * Car actually will need the idler bracket and belt for AC to work. #0110 was re-sprayed inside/outside in 2002 with DuPont Championship White paint by previous owner after a front-end collision. All work was completed at a well-known body shop with all components removed before paint, including glass. Replacement parts were all OEM from a donor car, including bumper, hood and fenders. Included with the vehicle purchase are pictures of the donor car and full receipts of the work performed. Other than the missing VIN tags on the bumper/fenders/hood, you would never know this car was in an accident. Exterior Condition: Make no mistake, this car has been tracked. I’ve hit a few cones with the front bumper, and consequently there have been a slowly increasing number of scuffs and faint paint cracks forming on the front bumper. This damage is not noticeable from +10ft. There are a couple minor dings/chips, I know where they are and you probably won’t see them unless you look hard. Other than that, there are no dents or damage to the car. Interior Condition: Carpets are a little worn, but still in good condition for the age of the car. Seats are in great shape, passenger seat has a small 2” tear (pictured below), other than that no scuffs/stains/rips. #0110 has the original badge/armrest. Non-smoker no Pets. *I've sold the stock seats, currently has recaro JDM Seats in very good condition, 9/10. Bolt-Ons: • Custom 3.5” Aluminum Intake w/3.5” > 6” Velocity Stack + K&N Filter • Omni 70mm TB port matched to the stock ITR intake manifold • Skunk2 MegaPower Header • T1R Resonated Testpipe • T1R 70R 70mm (2.75”) catback exhaust. *Currently has an APEXI 70mm WS2 muffler to be slightly quieter, still have the T1R muffler. Shortblock *assembled in 2005 by Earl Laskey (RIP)*: • 85mm B18C1 block with Benson sleeves, work performed by Dan Benson @ Benson Machine • CP 12.0:1 forged pistons • Eagle H-Beam connecting rods with ARP2000 bolts • ACL rod & main bearings • 87.2mm GSR Crankshaft micropolished and balanced by Dan Benson @ Benson Machine • Baffled Oil Pan • ARP Head Studs • Stock motor mounts w/urethane inserts Cylinder Head: • PR3 ITR head with 85mm chambers • Deshrouded valve reliefs • Custom valve grind • 0.008” off surface • Stock ITR ports • Skunk2 Pro-series Stage 3 camshafts • Skunk2 Pro-series Cam Gears • SuperTech Valves (std. size) • SuperTech Valvesprings • SuperTech Titanium Retainers • Cometic 85mm headgasket • Greddy High-Strength Timing Belt Crankcase EVAC / Catch Can: • Pulls vacuum (max -7 inhg) on the crankcase for improved ring seal and reduced blow-by through a slash-cut exhaust bung • Custom 1800cc sealed catch-can made from 0.090” 6061 Aluminum • Two -10 AN w/Pro-Lite 350 lines to the back of the block (-10 AN fittings) • One -10 AN to Barbed Fitting for line to exhaust slash-cut / EVAC • One barbed fitting to valvecover • One -6 AN w/Pro-Lite 350 line drainback to block Drivetrain: • ’97 ITR S80 Transmission w/OEM ITR LSD *matching VIN* • ATS 4.929 Final Drive • Exedy Stage-2 3puck lightweight sprung clutch • Fidanza 7.5lb Flywheel • New seals/bearings installed in January 2008 • *I recently at 100K Installed an aluminum radiator alpha skunk2 • *I recently at 100K also rebuilt the transmission as there was a grind. Electronics/Fuel: • OBD2a-OBD1 jumper harness • P72 ECU with eCtune (tuned by me, license will transfer to new owner) • RDX 410cc injectors w/Xenocron adapters (plug-and-play connectors) • Replaced Distributor in 2005 with engine build • NGK Blue Plug Wires (installed 2005) • New Distributor cap/rotor (2011) • New NGK BKR7E Plugs every 5,000 miles Appearance/Interior: • ‘Luv2Boost’ dual-pod inner bezel w/Innovate MTX-L Wideband and X-Line electronic Oil Pressure Gauge • JDM ITR red shift boot • Spoon Sports Black Duracon shift knob • Spoon Sports brake/clutch reservoir covers • Spoon Sports radiator cap OEM parts: (come with car, not installed) • *OEM 1997 B18C5 ITR shortblock w/matching VIN* with new bearings, seals and water/oil pumps • OEM 1997 ITR exhaust manifold • OEM 1997 ITR Intake Arm & Resonator Box • OEM 1997 ITR exhaust (catback) • OEM 1997 ITR springs • OEM 1997 P73 ITR ECU • OEM 1997 ITR Throttle Body Misc. Extras: • Original Window Sticker • Original ITR Special Edition Key in great condition (I never used it….) • 1997 Acura Body Repair Manual • 1997 Acura Integra Type-R Service Manual Supplement This car could be returned to mostly stock very easily. The cylinder head currently on the car has enlarged bores to match the 85mm block, therefore it cannot be installed on the rebuilt OEM 81mm shortblock. If the new owner wishes to install the OEM 81mm shortblock, a PR3 VTEC cylinder head will be needed. Link to Video: http://youtu.be/GGs2sGkmOvk |

Acura is bringing back one of the first-gen NSX's coolest colors
Thu, Aug 8 2019Between 1997 and 2003, about 20 percent of first-generation Acura NSXs wore the color Spa Yellow, also known as Indy Yellow in some markets. As the legend of the NSX grew, so did the shiny color's reputation, and today, it's one of collectors' favorites. That's why it was odd that the second-generation NSX has not offered yellow paint ... until now. Acura announced the 2020 NSX will offer Indy Yellow Pearl, a similar-but-new take on the classic. Acura currently offers eight colors on the NSX: Nouvelle Blue Pearl, Valencia Red Pearl, Casino White Pearl, Source Silver Metallic, Thermal Orange Pearl, 130R White, Curva Red, and Berlina Black. Of those, Berlina Black is considered the only heritage color, and now it's getting a partner in Indy Yellow Pearl. Although Berlina Black can be ordered as a standard color, Indy Yellow Pearl will cost an extra $1,000, which seems completely worth it. Spa Yellow, which was the fifth-most-popular first-generation NSX color, was one of two yellows offered back then. For the 2004 and 2005 model years, the last two years of first-gen NSX production, Spa Yellow was replaced with Rio Yellow. The announcement comes ahead of California's famous Monterey Car Week, where the car will make its global in-person debut. It will be shown next to an NSX GT3 Evo racecar on the main strip in downtown Carmel-by-the-Sea, California. The 2020 Acura NSX starts at $159,495, including destination.
Acura Infotainment Review | Just give it some time
Tue, Apr 20 2021Acura’s True Touchpad infotainment system is a hot topic at Autoblog HQ. Some of us utterly detest its functionality. Others, myself included, will plead its case as a worthy alternative to normal infotainment systems. “ItÂ’s not that bad,” IÂ’ll say over and over. I had to eat my words to a certain extent when our long term 2021 Acura TLXÂ’s infotainment system broke recently due to bad wire connectors, but now that itÂ’s up and running again, itÂ’s time to give it a proper shake. The screen in this TLX is a high-resolution, 10.2-inch monitor that sits far from the driver on the carÂ’s dash top. ItÂ’s oriented horizontally in a widescreen format. The controversial bit I mentioned at the beginning is all to do with how you navigate the user interface using AcuraÂ’s unique touchpad. It uses something Acura calls absolute positioning technology, meaning that where your finger is on the touchpad corresponds to the same spot on the screen, allowing you to select whatever is in that location. Press down on the top right corner of the touchpad, and the square located in the top right corner of the screen is selected — no need to “swipe” over to it. This takes a considerable amount of time to adapt to. I didnÂ’t master it or get used to it overnight. In fact, itÂ’s really rather frustrating out of the gate. Virtually all touchpads in cars before this one are more intuitive at first. Just swipe around the pad, and your “cursor” swipes around with you. After a couple road trips, plenty of takeout runs and everything in between, IÂ’ve become a believer in AcuraÂ’s technology, though, with one major caveat IÂ’ll address later on. 2021 Acura TLX infotainment View 7 Photos Once you have enough time and practice to become fluent with AcuraÂ’s way of doing things (something our long-term Acura TLX has allowed us the rare opportunity to do), the absolute positioning strategy starts to make more sense. You can select an app like FM radio or Apple CarPlay in an instant — faster than any regular touchpad or scroll wheel will allow. ItÂ’s no wild speed demon, but you can navigate the main menu structure faster here than you can in most cars. AcuraÂ’s user interface is tailored to fit its operation with big squares that are easily findable in your touchpad to press. It gets a little tougher once you get into an app like Navigation or Sirius XM, as it requires more precise positioning of your finger to get to the right spot.
2016 Acura MDX gets 9-speed transmission, added refinement
Tue, Feb 3 2015It's a car we barely think about until Acura announces it's done something to it, but the MDX is rather popular with those questing for a crossover. For 2016 the third-generation, luxury three-row people-carrier gets a slightly higher MSRP, but better standard equipment and options to go with it. The big change is that the nine-speed automatic transmission with tighter ratios and faster gear shifts, as well as its push-button gear selector, has finally migrated from the top-dog RL sedan. So too the upgraded twin-clutch Super Handling All-Wheel Drive, paired here with the unchanged 290-horsepower, 3.5-liter six-cylinder. We thought adding three more cogs was supposed to make for better fuel economy, but in some cases the EPA ratings on the 2016 MDX have gone down by one mile per gallon. The base 2015 MDX is rated at 20 city, 28 highway, 23 combined; the 2016 is rated 19 city, 27 highway, 22 combined. Add SH-AWD on the 2015 and you're looking at 18 city, 27 highway, 21 combined; on the 2016 that's 18 city, 26 highway, 21 combined. If you add idle-stop to those models you restore the city and combined ratings, but still lose that extra mile on the highway. On the options list is a group of safety and driver assistance features grouped under the AcuraWatch rubric. You can add the whole kit for $1,500 to the base model, but some of its features like Lane Keep Assist and Forward Collision Warning, which you can also option on the 2015 model, are added with the Technology Package. The full suite, which includes model-firsts like Road Departure Mitigation and Rear Cross Traffic Monitor, is standard once you step up to the Advance Package. Other tech treats get baked into all trims, like the easy entry/exit driver's seat slides back 1.4 inches when you're getting in and out, the TPMS fill assist that sounds a beep when you've inflated the tires to the correct pressure, Siri Eyes Free voice recognition and a frameless rearview mirror. The price to get in on all this is $42,865, a a $1,100 bump over the 2015 model, but that's not a blanket increase across the lineup: the MDX with the Technology Package, for instance, has only gone up $250. The upper limit comes with the MDX SH-AWD with idle stop and the Advance, Entertainment & AcuraWatch Plus Packages for $57,080, a $100 increase over the top-of-the-line 2015 trim. The press release below has plenty of details.
