I am selling my 1975 Civic wagon -- somewhat reluctantly, since I've only had it about 8 months. But I have another 40-year-old Japanese wagon and I can't keep both.
This car drives pretty well and is fairly clean inside and out. It has some imperfections in the body, to be sure: a ding on the roof above the windshield and some damage to the front bumper.
If you know these cars, you know that they're not built for high performance. The engine, if I recall correctly, has 52 HP. It will drive at highway speeds, but as a daily driver, it's better for in-town use.
Since I got it, I've had the following work done:
- Front-end alignment
- Points and carburetor adjusted
- Front seats recovered and foam replaced
- Shoulder belts installed in back seat
It also has a new battery. The engine was rebuilt approximately five years ago. I have the repair records for that and a lot of other work that predates my ownership.
Overall, I'd say it's in good condition, considering its age. The upholstery, carpets, and dash are all good. Here are the known mechanical flaws:
- The driver's window regulator doesn't work properly. You can still raise and lower the window, but it takes extra effort.
- It needs one of the strut sleeves replaced. My mechanic told me that he found these listed on-line for approximately $90.
- The odometer has not worked since I have owned it (so I don't know the true mileage).
When I bought it, the previous owner included a 5-speed transmission, but I've never looked into installing it.

Sporty cars from the '80s get retro reviews from MotorWeek

That's the feeling we're left with after watching the retro-review video above, in which MotorWeek – television's original automotive magazine, as if you didn't already know – takes a look at the 1984 Honda Prelude. A sporty coupe from Japan that lacks the outright performance and thrust of comparable American and European competitors, but makes any perceived slight up with unarguably supreme driving dynamics? That sounds sort of familiar, doesn't it? As always, we love taking a look back at the early days of MotorWeek (the more things change, they more they stay the same, remember?). And it doesn't end there. Far from it, in fact. Honda takes us through 50 years of automobiles in 60 seconds
Fri, 12 Jul 2013Honda's wonderfully simple, fun ads are not in short supply right now. We showed you Hands, the followup to 2003's The Cog, last week. If you haven't had a chance to look at those two great videos, we strongly encourage you to head over that way and give them a watch.
The latest minute-long commercial is a bit more dear, though. And while it may be in Japanese, it's still a cool look back at Honda and its car-building history.
This is also a great video if you're a fan of odd, vintage Japanese vehicles. Honda's T360 and a few old Civics are featured heavily, although we can't help but notice that a few very big names are missing. Where's the NSX or the S2000? How about the original Insight, a car so revolutionary it still has a cult following today? Honda has made some great cars, we just wish it'd show off more of them. Check out the video below.
Next Honda Ridgeline previewed in sketch
Thu, Feb 12 2015Honda's big debut at the 2015 Chicago Auto Show may be the all-new Pilot crossover, but the Japanese automaker has released another juicy morsel for us here in the Windy City. Previewed in a sketch, Honda is giving us our first glimpse at the next-generation Ridgeline pickup (note that the drawing pictures the truck on an actual ridgeline – good one, guys). The Ridgeline always sort of steered away from conventional pickup truck wisdom, using a unibody construction with passenger-car roots. We don't know much more about the new truck, the company only saying that the next Ridgeline "will take the original's award-winning performance, comfort and utility to new levels with completely new styling that communicates unmistakably that it's a pickup, yet with a uniquely Honda flair." It's unclear exactly when the new Ridgeline will debut, though Honda expects it to go on sale sometime next year.
