1995 S10 Custom
Lorelei

Up for auction is Lorelei a one off custom from Fod's Garage. This beautiful S10 was completed, and made it's debut in Virginia, June of 2013. Where it won best engineered, best interior, and was shot for two magazines. The idea behind the build was to infuse the mini truck and hot rod styles. The truck was purchased used in 96 by a friend who has done paint work for the shop in the past. He began modifications and showed the truck in various forms over the years. I then purchased the truck and took it to it's current state. With only 49xxx miles she has lived a charmed life.
The description is lengthy but I want the buyer as informed as possible and see the effort and quality parts put into this build. Take time to look over the pictures here and more on the Fod's Garage website. We provide turn key customs as well and commissioned builds. If you have any questions please contact me before placing a bid (fod@fodsgarage.com or 812-216-0635). Vehicle is for sale locally and auction may end at any time prior to reserve being met.

Exterior
Starting with one of the most dramatic modifications being the tailgate area. The tailgate has been leaned forward to emulate a 55 Chevy Nomad. Pods were then constructed out of sheet metal to house 55 taillights and form the "fin". No fiberglass or universal fit parts, all hand crafted specifically for this build. Doors have been suicided and open to nearly 90 degrees. The door handles were shaved and drivers side is operated by remote. Filler panels cover the stock mirror locations and now have 55 mirrors in their place. A steel cowl induction hood adds to the hot rod style. Under side of hood is finished in satin black for a factory appearance. Headlights, grille, and front bumper are from a 98 Envoy. The grille is all chrome with a 55 hood emblem replacing the bowtie. Fresh DuPont paint wraps the truck in a custom white pearl and Mini Cooper blue with a black spray in liner. Original 56 Bel Air trim was cut down and reshape to fit the contours of the body then re-polished. You might see other trucks out there with painted on trim but not the real thing! Fitting original trim is simply too difficult making this truck stand out from the rest. The truck also has a traditional body drop, or channeled depending on who you talk to. The floor of the bed was raised an addition two inches to retain a flat floor with no bridge required.
Suspension
Font suspension has lowered spindles and Firestone air bags. The rear is a 4 link setup also using Firestones. Air tank and two compressors are located under the bed. Solenoids with 3/8 lines provide front and rear control. Rolling attire is made up of 17" torque thrust wheels on all four corners and fresh Zexius tires. 225/45 on the front and 245/45 on the rear.
Drivetrain
Power comes from a throttle body 4.3 v6 with JBA headers. The truck originally had a 5 speed manual that has been replaced with a 700r4.
Interior
The inside is packed with custom treatments throughout. The dash is from a 55 Chevy and has been cut down to fit. The cd player and air ride controls are hidden behind a panel in the dash so they don't distract from the clean lines. The instrument cluster and speaker pods have been relocated and glove box has also been removed. Gauges are custom pearl white Belera II from Classic Instruments. A pearl white faced air pressure gauge is installed in the stock clock location. A 65 mustang heat and a/c unit is housed in a recess in the dash for a factory look. Unit has not been hooked up. Having heat and air in a body dropped mini truck is a BIG deal, as this is usually one of the first things to go to accommodate the front tires. Steering input is done through a custom steering wheel made by Con2r mounted to a tilt column. Prior to interior installation the cab was treated with sound and heat deadening material. Carpet is a short loop in blue from ACC  matching carpet from the 50's and 60's. Sill plates are a brushed stainless for a factory feel. Low back bucket seats have you riding in comfort. Staying true to the mini truck scene audio equipment was not forgotten. Behind the seats you will find 3 Rockford Fosgate p3d10 subs powered by a p1000 amp. Also in the amp rack are two p200's. One for the highs mounted in the pillars and the other for mids in the doors. Still leaving room for a driver over 6 foot tall. Door panels were made using arm rests, trim, and window cranks from a 55. Interior treatment is finished off with a suspended headliner, 55 visors, and rear view mirror.

All shipping costs are the responsibility of winning bidder. Deposit and payment arrangements are required within 48 hours of auction completion. Vehicle will not be released until payment is made in cash or clears my bank. Truck has a clear Indiana title.

Legal type stuff
As is with all custom vehicles there may be items that do not conform to your local laws. Custom/hot rod vehicles are not factory production units and therefore many not perform as such. These could, but do not necessarily include: interior or air ride leaks, altered ride and handling characteristics, decreased visibility, modified or removed safety items, deeming them off road use only. Therefore all altered vehicles are sold for off road show purposes only. Fod's Garage is not responsible for any damage or injuries caused while operating this vehicle. This truck is in good working order but is sold as is with no warranty or guarantees.

2016 Chevy Volt arrives with 50-mile EV range, 41 mpg [w/ video]

Mon, Jan 12 2015

Let's start with the numbers. The 2016 Chevy Volt will have an all-electric range of 50 miles from a new, 18.4-kWh lithium battery. It will get 41 miles per gallon (combined) once the battery runs dry and have 102 MPGe. Oh, and it has five seats, sort of. To compare, today's four-seat 2015 Volt has a 38-mile range from a 17.1-kWh battery in a powertrain that offers 37 mpg and 98 MPGe. So, across the board, there are notable improvements. Now that that's out of the way, let's talk story. General Motors will unveil the new Volt at the Detroit Auto Show later today, but it's been talking about how this new version – the first major plug-in hybrid vehicle to get a serious redo in the modern era – was crafted with reams and reams of data from first-gen Volt customers. At a preview event for journalists last week, GM executive chief engineer Pam Fletcher told Autoblog that these owners "gave us the recipe" to make the second-gen model. At the top of the request list was more range (check), more "fun-to-drive" behavior (check?) and a smoother and quieter experience (we'll assume a check here, given that the new 1.5-liter four-cylinder – the first North American application of this new engine family – should offer more power with less noise than the previous 1.4-liter, four-cylinder powerplant). Other customer-driven changes in the new Volt include a different place to store the charging cable (in the side of the trunk instead of under the load floor) and a new brake system with improved blended regenerative braking feel as well as driver-selectable regen levels. The requested 50-mile range comes from a new, lighter battery that has increased capacity from fewer cells (192 vs. 288) and a simplified control architecture. Along with the new battery, the electric drive unit is a two-motor deal that is up to 12 percent more efficient and 100 pounds lighter, while also being "tremendously smaller," notes Fletcher. It offers 294 pound-feet of torque and a maximum 149 horsepower of "motoring power" delivered to the wheels. GM says it has worked hard to reduced the amount of rare earth materials in these motors, and one of them doesn't use any at all. The new powertrain offers improved acceleration times, as well. The 2016 Volt can go from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 8.4 seconds, a seven-percent improvement, while the 0-30 mph time has been improved by 19 percent, down to 2.6 seconds. The new Volt is more conventional looking, but certainly not completely ordinary.

More Corvette Stingray Factoids: Vanishing panel gaps and 26-mpg LT1

Thu, 28 Feb 2013

During January's Detroit Auto Show, we managed a longer than expected wandering tag-team interview with C7 Corvette chief engineering exec Tadge Juechter (pictured above), and LT1 engine boss Jordan Lee (pictured below). They are, quite honestly, two of the very nicest bigshot lads to ever walk the engineering corridors of an American manufacturer. Both are enthralled by what they're doing for a day job. So are we.
We've followed the pre-sale anticipation for the Chevrolet C7 Corvette Stingray like an Oreck vacuum yanking every speck of dirt from a well-trampled carpet. Everything is reportable and contains a grain of further knowledge about this dramatically important and cheered-for car, as it continues to be pressured into representing all that is superior about the American dream. The Corvette wears one heavy cloak.
So, most of what was talked about has been expertly reported already right here on Autoblog. But, looking through our notes again, both Jeuchter and Lee added facts to the buzzing mix.

Motor Trend wheels the 2015 Corvette Z06

Tue, Nov 25 2014

The new Chevrolet Corvette Z06 is capable of some absolutely wild metrics. Want proof? Carlos Lago from Motor Trend is here to break it all down. 60 miles per hour? 3.2 seconds. 60 to 0? 91 feet. Lateral acceleration? A staggering 1.16g, a figure that is the highest MT has ever recorded for a vehicle that isn't a race car. It's an utterly astonishing piece of work, this Z06, and just when you think it can't possibly get any more impressive, Randy Pobst hustles an auto-equipped Z06 around Road Atlanta in just 1:30. Aside from the eight-speed auto, Pobst's Z06 had the most aggressive aerodynamic package, the so-called Stage III. Take a look at the 650-horsepower Z06 in Motor Trend's latest video.
