See the seller's listing for full details and description of any imperfections.Seller Notes:"It was in Average shape until about 2 months ago. It had a bunch of issues at once and after fixing a few I'm giving up on it. It needs a new Alternator and Battery. It also needs to have the convertible top adjusted and have the expensive sensor that acknowledges the top is closed replaced(car beeps at you now). There is a hole on the inside lining of the top. It needs two front tire in the near future, they were out of alignment for too long. The last time I charged it, it didn't want to drive when put in gear, so there may be a mechaninical issue. The seats are leather but are worn and in poor shape. The stiching has come out in most of the passanger side seat, a little of the drivers side seat, and a spot in the back seat. There are several scuffs, tears, and scratches directly below the back window, which is shown in one picture. The front and back bumpers are scuffed and scratched in several places, and the back bumper has a cracked spot about the size of a golf ball."

I'm sorry to sell it but a bunch of issues popped up at once, so my loss is your gain.  While I see a lot of women driving this car, it always seemed more masculine than most convertibles with its wide stance.  It ran well until about 2 months ago, with good acceleration when you put the pedal down.  It handled pretty well on turns and stopped well.  It is a fun car to drive and the styling still looks good today, especially with the upgraded factory rims.  The issues I ran into and why I'm selling are listed in the condition description, but I'll list them in three groups in terms of priority.

The battery*, alternator*, convertible top sensor**, and whatever mechanical issue* it has need to be looked at before this car is drivable.
The tires need to be replaced in the near future (2-3 months?) as they are worn wrong but currently in alignment and the convertible top needs to be adjusted to be functioning so you get the convertible experience.
The front and rear bumper and the seats are scratched, scrapped, and scuffed, also there is a hole in the convertible top interior liner***, if you want to improve the cosmetics, those are the problem areas.

*I was told the battery and alternator needed to be replaced by Don Beyer Volvo, they didn't ID any mechanical issue but I"'m guess there is one.
**I put the convertible top sensor in the drivable list because the car will have a bell ringing constantly until that sensor is replaced.
*** I have never seen any leaking whatsoever from the top

I think it is actually the 2.4L, but I'm not sure so I checked 2.3L.  It has the upgraded Dolby Surround stereo.  Power Windows and roof.

I am the third owner and I serviced it regularly at Don Beyer in Falls Church.  I purchased it from my mother and I know she did the same.  The original owner was a middle aged woman my mother purchased it from.

This is local pickup only.  The car needs work, so it will have to be towed.  Buyer will be responsible for the towing.

New Lotus SUV could be based on Volvo architecture

Tue, Mar 20 2018

Last year, Chinese carmaker Geely upped its stake in Lotus to a majority, recently investing more money into the British brand. Now, talking with Automotive News, CEO Jean-Marc Gales says Geely has approved three new models: two sports cars and the third an SUV. The sports cars will be announced later this year, and they will reach production in 2020. The last time a properly new Lotus debuted was in 2009 with the Evora, so a decade later new products are certainly due. But what about that SUV? Autocar says that since Geely also owns Volvo, that makes it possible for Lotus to base the SUV onto the Volvo SPA platform, which is also used in the XC60 and XC90. The choice of platform would mean the SUV would have to be a four-cylinder model, but that's nothing new to Lotus. It could even use Volvo's "Twin Engine" hybrid setup, which would mean a power output of over 400 horsepower as stock, and that with Lotus' eagerness for lightness could be a potent combination. Autocar quotes Gales as saying, "It will go round bends like nothing else in its segment." The target weight for the approximately Porsche Macan-sized SUV is under 2,000 kilos (4,400 pounds), and the Macan weighs 4244 pounds in 400-hp Turbo guise. The Lotus SUV is projected to hit the market in "about four years," and it's very likely to be built in China instead of Britain, as the Chinese market is very enticing — especially for this class of vehicle. The vehicles will still be designed at Lotus' Hethel HQ. Related Video:

Volvo won't entirely give up on sedans and station wagons

Mon, Jan 10 2022

Volvo, like an overwhelming majority of its peers and rivals, sells more SUVs and crossovers than sedans and station wagons. It confirmed plans to pivot away from low-riding models in 2021, but it stressed that it's not ready to throw in the towel in either segment quite yet. "Yes, the [V and S lines] will be replaced with something even more attractive to customers," affirmed company boss Hakan Samuelsson in an interview with British magazine Autocar. His comments come as a relief for Volvo wagon fans around the world, given that in 2021 he had said that the company needs "to move [on] from wagons and sedans." There's a catch, though: Future V and S models will look quite different than today's. Samuelsson (who will step down from his position in March 2022) acknowledged that Volvo needs lower-riding cars but noted that their design will evolve and become "maybe a little less square." It's not just about style, either. "Cars will be less boxy in the future, when we need to have lower air resistance. You could call it coupe-ish. We talk a lot about range in electric cars, but I think we will start looking at energy efficiency, and of course air resistance will be very central to that," he said. It helps that sleeker designs help keep buyers interested in sedans. Volvo's S90 and V90 were introduced and 2015 and 2016, respectively, so they're expected to be replaced in the not-too-distant future. One point that's still up in the air is what they'll be called. The Swedish company is preparing to ditch its alphanumerical naming system in order to give its cars an actual name, so both nameplates will die with the current-generation models. We'll have a better idea of what the future has in store when the XC90's replacement arrives later in 2022 with a new name, a new architecture, and a large serving of new technology. Volvo announces a move away from wagons and sedans as SUV fever spikes

Wed, Mar 3 2021

Volvo will move away from station wagons and sedans as it pivots towards an electric-only lineup. While it won't abandon either body style, it hinted it will pare down its presence in both segments as it launches more crossovers. "We need less variants of sedans and wagons. We have a lot of wagons today, with the V60, the V90, the Cross Country, and the non-Cross Country, plus a lot of sedans big and small, long, and extra-long. We need to move from wagons and sedans. We will still have them in the future, but probably not as many," warned company boss Hakan Samuelsson in an interview with British magazine Autocar. He pointed out Volvo's sales mix is about 75% SUVs. Volvo's portfolio in 2021 includes two wagons, the V60 and the V90. Each one is available as a regular low-riding model, or as a Cross Country-branded high rider with all-wheel-drive and rugged styling cues. Selling wagons in 2021 is difficult, even for a brand like Volvo that's been closely associated with the body style for decades. American motorists fell out of love with the long-roof years ago, and Chinese drivers never liked them to begin with. Europeans still buy lifted wagons, but low-riding models are a tough sell, even in Volvo's home country of Sweden. Reading between the lines suggests non-Cross Country-badged models will be axed from the range in the coming years. As for sedans, Volvo has two: the S60 and the S90. It's not too far-fetched to speculate that at least one won't be replaced at the end of its life cycle. While nothing is official yet, and this is just a guess, our money is on the S90. High-riding vehicles are what the market wants in the 2020s, and Volvo (like everyone else) is following demand. It added a fourth model to its palette of crossovers and SUVs when it introduced the 2022 C40 Recharge, an electric soft-roader with XC40 underpinnings and a fastback-like roof line. Unverified rumors claim a flagship model tentatively called XC100 is on its way, and Samuelsson confirmed an entry-level crossover called either XC20 or C20 is currently under development. The model's architecture will come from China-based parent company Geely. Samuelsson explained the shift to an all-electric range will have a profound effect on Volvo's design language. First, a lot of its upcoming cars will be taller, because it's easier to pack a bulky battery pack into a crossover than into a sedan. Second, the firm's future design language will be more streamlined.
