2008 Volkswagen Jetta Se Sedan 4-door 2.5l on 2040-cars
Thornwood, New York, United States
Great 2008 Jetta inside & out with a flaw.
This is the opportunity to buy a great 2008 Jetta, overall in excellent condition, for a great price if you can live with a small flaw. This car is in great mechanical an technical condition, never had any issues. Purchased in 2011 by the current owner as a certified pre-owned with 47,000 miles (original bill of sale available). Since then, added 25,000 miles over 2 years (almost all highway) and had the car serviced three times (last on 11/20/2013. Never had any mechanical or technical trouble. Car has small body damage on the rear passenger door (low-speed incident), selling for a great price to someone who doesn't mind the cosmetics or can fix it themselves. Note: Vehicle history may show this as a 3 owner car since the current owner had a legal name change and moved between states which might register as a owner change. Can prove that current owner had the car since 2011. Key highlights
Additional selling points
Just serviced (11/20/2013)
Damage disclaimer The rear passenger door was damaged in a low-speed incident (hit the guard-rail of a gas pump). The door functions and closes/seals properly but the body is damaged and the paint is scratched visibly. The damage is purely cosmetic but might need some attention at some point to prevent rusting at the door seals. The owner has deemed this repair to be not worthwhile given the overall value and age of the car. Selling the car for a lower price with the damage gives the new owner the option to make repairs or leave it as-is. |

Touring the Volkswagen Museum in Wolfsburg
Mon, 23 Sep 2013Forgive the ribbon up top - this isn't so much of a Read This as a Look At This. Ran When Parked took a tour of the sprawling Volkswagen Museum in Wolfsburg, and while there's a spot of text about the different and unique vehicles on display in the rotating exhibits, it's largely the collection of pictures of odd, one-off VW-badged cars and vans that excites. If you're a fan of the weird and wild, this is a post you'll want to look at.
As RWP points out, this is the larger, but less busy, museum targeted purely at Volkswagen products. The smaller AutoStadt museum, meanwhile, covers a much broader swath, with products from other Volkswagen Group members. Click on over to view the extensive gallery of high-quality images from Ran When Parked.
Witness this insane 736-hp VW Golf immolate its front tires
Mon, 11 Mar 2013There's torque steer and then there's what we'll from now on dub "The Boba," as in Boba Kettler. The German tuner has a way with the Volkswagen Golf, and the MkI example you see above has been touched with 736 horsepower - that's right, 96 more ponies than a new SRT Viper, all trying to get to ground through those two front wheels.
The 2.0-liter, 16-valve engine has an 8,800 rpm redline and is aided by a Garrett GTX3582R turbocharger shoving 50 psi through the internals. Other upgrades include a new ECU (natch) and a six-speed 'box among other treats. The rubber is Toyo R888s - street-legal competition tires. The result is enough smoke for three Chinese New Years when the lights go green. Indeed, the standing start isn't its forte, but it can apparently get from 62 miles per hour to 124 mph in five seconds.
Watch it go in the video below. And know that this isn't even Boba's best work; he's got a 900-hp MkII Golf that'll do 0-62 mph in 2.3 seconds.
VW recalling 2.64M vehicles worldwide over engine, light issues
Thu, 14 Nov 2013Volkswagen is staging a massive, worldwide recall that's already grown from 1.68 million to 2.64 million vehicles and covers three different issues across a number of vehicles. We already reported on 61,000 Tiguans getting recalled over lighting issues - that was just in the US. Globally, however, VW will be recalling 800,000 Tiguans, according to Automotive News, with the focus on CUVs built between 2008 and 2011. The issue with the Tiguan relates to a simple fuse swap, so this is rather unremarkable, aside from the sheer number of vehicles being fixed. The real, troubling issues relate to gearboxes and pickups.
239,000 Amarok pickups (pictured right) are being recalled over fuel leaks, while 1.6 million vehicles are being recalled to swap the synthetic oil in dual-clutch transmissions with mineral oil. Now, the transmission issue is one for the global Volkswagen Group to address, not just the VW brand - vehicles from Audi, Škoda and Seat use the same seven-speed DSG and are covered under the recall, as well.
Why the switch from synthetic to mineral oil? Apparently, using the synthetic oil in a DSG and then subjecting it to stop-and-go conditions or heavy loads in a hot and humid climate can lead to electronic malfunctions, according to a Volkswagen press release. The switch, from the sounds of it, is largely a preventative measure.
