Up for sale is an incredibly clean and original red on gray leather manual transmission 1989 Toyota Supra Turbo with a Targa roof and the optional Sport Suspension Package.  See below for a complete description of the car.  I have a small private collection of sports cars from the 80's/90's and I have maxed out my storage location thus need to sell a car every time I buy one.  In this case, I purchased a Buick GNX (on eBay) last week which has always been a dream car for me, but it means another car must go.  The only reason I am choosing to sell the Supra is that it has the highest mileage of the cars in my collection and I have driven it the most since I have owned it.  There is absolutely nothing wrong with the car...in fact, it is one of the cleanest in the collection irrespective of the miles.  Please review the information below and contact me at 480-227-9850 if you have any questions.

Car History:

I purchased the car from the 2nd owner in August of 2013 out of Louisiana.  It was previously in Illinois with the original owner for most of its life.  Prior to buying it, I spoke to the original owner to understand the complete history since new and was happy to learn it was always in the care of an enthusiast.  The original owner informed me of an incorrect mileage entry in 2001 which showed up on the CarFax report I ran.  All the information and documentation provided confirmed this was simply an error.  The car has zero rust, dents, or body work, and the paint is original and is truly impressive.

Included with the purchase are the original Owner's Manual, Accessories Guide, Supra Sales Brochure, Window Sticker, and what appears to be Factory Build Sheets (in Japanese).  The OEM Targa removal tool, jack (never used), and three keys are included as well.

Engine:

The 7M GTE 3.0L V6 Turbo engine is a true classic with good power and legendary reliability.  The engine is completely stock and is rated at 232HP and 254TQ.  Mated with a slick shifting 5 speed transmission, the car is a joy to drive.  I have driven this car on several 300 mile trips and am amazed at how smooth the engine is.  Even at 25 years old, it has plenty of power and cruises comfortable above 80mph for hours.  The engine compartment is fully detailed and looks like new.

Maintenance:

Since I have owned the car, I have had all four brakes and rotors replaced, new fuel filter installed, and all fluids changed.  As with the previous owners, only Synthetic motor oil, Royal Purple Transmission and Differential Fluid has been used.  The brake lines were replaced in 2012 as was the turbo seals and manifold gasket which had a minor leak, all with OEM parts.  Everything else is original and the engine is currently in excellent running condition.

Exterior:

The factory original "Super Red" paint is really amazing still with only a couple stone chips on the hood.  The previous owner installed a 3M clear bra to prevent more chips.  The Targa roof panel is in as new condition as are all the trim pieces.  The glass is original and free of marks (except VIN etching).  The wheels match the rest of the car and are in excellent shape.  Tires are Toyos and have less than 2,000 miles on them.  All lights and signals work perfectly.

Interior:

The interior is also amazing shape and looks/feels like new.  The Gray leather is a fairly rare option and looks great with the red exterior.  The leather is in great condition and shows little wear.  In fact, only the driver's seat exhibits wear and it is minor...limited to the bolster and a scratch on the thigh support (see pic).  The dash, bezels and interior trim is perfect and all gauges and lights work as new.  The car has its original factory radio cassette with slave CD unit.  The system works great but the display on the head unit is dim and difficult to read.

Misc.:

The car has its original A/C system which works perfectly.  Heat and defrost also work without problems.  The Supra is equipped with optional equipment including Anti-Lock Brakes and the Sport Package which includes the electronic modulated suspension system (TEMS).  This system features a "normal and "sport" option keypad on the center console and works as new.  The leather seats were also an option as was the carpeted floor mats which are still in great shape.

Auction Details:

A $500 non-refundable deposit is required within 48 hours via PayPal.  Final payment via bank wire or cash is due within 7 days of the auction ending.  If the above is not complied with or other arrangements are not agreed to prior, the transaction will be canceled, negative feedback left, and the car will be re-listed.  All shipping costs are the responsibility of the buyer but I will assist in the pick up as needed.  The car is located in Chandler, Arizona 85249.

Thanks for your interest in my Supra and feel free to contact me with any questions.

PSA: Toyota wants to save your life, needs an hour of your time

Thu, Nov 9 2017

Toyota wrote Autoblog to ask if we could spread the word about the Takata airbag inflator recall. Defective inflators remain installed in tens of millions of cars made by 19 carmakers, with manufacture dates that go back to the year 2000. Each inflator compounds the risk of serious injury or death in an airbag-activating crash. With a new ad campaign called "in about an hour," Toyota wants to make sure that unaware owners, or overly busy owners, know they can get their Toyota, Lexus, and Scion vehicles repaired free of charge in about the time it takes to do a load of laundry. The campaign focuses on cities in three so-called Zone A states where hot, humid climates worsen the threat of the ruptured inflators: Los Angeles, Dallas, and Miami. However, every owner everywhere who cares about his life, or his child's life, should at least check to see if his car is affected. All it takes is a quick VIN entry at the dedicated recall site at Toyota.com/Recall. The results will let you know if your car is affected and, if so, locate a local dealer for the free fix. The National Highway Transportation Safety Administration said the Takata affair has become "the largest and most complex safety recall in U.S. history." The numbers so far suggest the recall covers more than 42 million vehicles and more than 60 million airbags. Autoweek keeps an updated list of Takata information, including every make and model on the recall list. Consumer Reports published a list of frequently asked questions covering issues directly related and tangential to the recall. The 19 automakers maintain pages dedicated to the issue; Fiat Chrysler lists every relevant model and how it prioritizes repairs by Zone, Honda says it offers a free rental car while owner cars are repaired, Daimler vans says its fix only takes about an hour. And of course NHTSA serves all owners with its own VIN lookup site. We encourage you to check your vehicle — the life you save could be your own. Related Video:

Toyota recalls 209,000 FJ Cruisers over seatbelt issue

Sat, 16 Mar 2013

Toyota has announced that it will be issuing a substantial recall of the FJ Cruiser for a problem that could cause the front seatbelt retractors to separate from the vehicle body. This recall will apply to all FJ Cruisers - from 2007 through 2013 - totaling around 209,000 units.
The problem stems from the FJ Cruiser's pillarless door opening design that has the front-occupant seatbelts attached to the rear doors. Toyota says that when the rear doors are "repeatedly and forcefully closed," the retractor could completely separate from the door frame.
While there is no information about this recall from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration yet, Toyota says that there have been no accidents or injuries associated with this issue. No specific fix or recall date are given, but the official press release is posted below.

We drive the cars of Furious 7... in Forza Horizon 2 [w/video]

Thu, Apr 9 2015

On March 27, Turn 10 Studios, the folks behind the Forza Motorsport series, and Universal Pictures, the studio responsible for the Fast and Furious franchise, gave us a match made in heaven, announcing a "standalone expansion" featuring the two franchises. Called Forza Horizon 2 Presents Fast and Furious, it features the cars from the latest film installment, unique missions and the voice-acting of Chris "Ludacris" Bridges, who plays tech guru Tej Parker on camera. A Fast and Furious video game? Seems like a no brainer. It gets better. Rather than limiting the Fast and Furious Edition cars to the expansion game, Turn 10 made them available through one of their (some may say notorious) downloadable content packages. Eight of the expansion's 11 cars were made available for just $4.99 (the only cars that weren't included were the Fast and Furious Edition Nissan GT-R, while the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport and McLaren P1 are already available in-game). What's cool ais that the cars featured in both games are visually identical to the vehicles driven by the stars of Furious 7. Each in-game car has an on-screen parallel that plays a role in advancing the film's story. Considering that we're unlikely to score seat time in Dominic Toretto's real Dodge Charger, then, we figured we'd take to the game and test the car in the digital realm. We've got nine little cluster reviews, covering the cars both in the game and how they appear in the movies. And don't worry, there are no major spoilers here. Click on for the cars of Forza Horizon 2 Presents Fast and Furious. 1970 Dodge Charger R/T Fast and Furious Edition Supercharged 7.2L V8 / 900 HP / 663 LB-FT The one vehicle that is mandatory in a Fast and Furious video game, Dom's hot-rodded 1970 Dodge Charger, is as much a character in the films as its driver. Furious 7 marks the fourth appearance of this Mopar beast in the series. Not surprisingly it's a handful to drive, wildly quick and with a four-speed transmission packed full of very tall gears. But beyond that, it's arguably the coolest of the FF Edition cars. This black beauty is exactly as it appears in the latest installment of the film, with the video game version featuring intricate little details, like the moving parts on the BDS supercharger. It's an iconic car, and it's treated as such in the game.
