Air blows cold, cruise control works, roof rack, runs and drives great. Five speed with a strong clutch, new brakes, new exhaust, and very clean interior.

Here's the deal on this car.
I just bought it for $1,200, then did a front end alignment, then took it in for a safety check.
It turns out, the seller I bought from "forgot" to mention a few small issues regarding this car; I am choosing to sell it at a loss that I can accept, or else learn how to part out a car!
The issues:
puff of blue smoke on cold starts (it lasts about one second).
leaking antifreeze from the radiator or near the radiator, I am not sure exactly.
And the biggest issue: the frame is badly rusted. Some welding has been done under the car to combat this. However, upon the safety check my mechanic told me that he feels the car is unsafe for use as my do-everything vehicle. He said he would feel ok with me driving it locally, but did not want to see my taking it across the country (as he knows I have a tendency to do). The frame is especially bad in the rear and poses a serious safety issue if the car was ever rear-ended.
The car can and has been taken on the expressway (I drove it about 500 miles on expressways in the couple days after purchasing), but for safety reasons this is not recommended.
Therefore I am selling it as a PARTS CAR that can be driven home. If you are uncomfortable driving it at all, I can deliver to you for the cost of gas plus $7 an hour driving time, within about 5 hours or so of Hillsdale, MI. Remember when calculating the costs that two people will have to drive out and a five hour drive would be twenty hours of driving time (2 people making the 5 hour drive twice). Despite the warning on the frame it does run and drive great and I will be driving it until it is sold or too parted out to keep driving.

It has other cosmetic issues (rust, dings, and scratches on the body) as might be expected for a 20 year old car. I do think it looks better in the pics than in real life, so buy accordingly. There are rust holes under the doors that are not really visible in the photos, and the scratch on the driver's side rear door is worse than it looks in the pic, though still cosmetic only.

If you just want a cheap, good car, this is probably not for you.

If you have one of these and you want a perfectly good, running parts car with everything there and working, maybe it's for you. The cruise works, the air blows cold, the factory radio is good, ALL electronics work except the cig. lighter.
The engine runs VERY STRONG.
The clutch is good.
Teach your kids to drive stick in the meantime!
the E brake does not work. Aside from what is mentioned, everything is top notch. It's a shame it can't/shouldn't stay on the road.

Thanks for looking. If it's not bought I will be parting it out. Send me a message to express interest in specific parts in advance, and I can contact you once they are listed.

Average transaction prices climb to a record $36,270 in January

Sat, Feb 3 2018

The automotive sector made a hash of the numbers last month, a mess of pluses and minuses clogging the transaction-price charts according to Kelley Blue Book. The overall industry rose one percent, even though buyers bought fewer cars and light vehicles in January 2018 vs 2017 using the selling-day adjusted rate. Due to January transaction prices rising to $36,270, a record for January, the value of new vehicles sold climbed more than $1 billion compared to January 2017. KBB's transaction prices don't include customer incentives, which changes the complexion slightly; average incentive spending rose to just over ten percent. The average transaction price in December 2017 was $36,756, so January dropped a bit - nothing unexpected, with the month annually blamed for "January doldrums." More revealing is the fact that the average transaction price in January 2017 was $34,910. This year's plumped-up figure came courtesy of the continued shift to crossovers, SUVs, and light trucks, which shouldn't surprise anyone who's read an automotive blog in the past 20 years. That category comprised nearly 70 percent of new vehicle sales for the month. Some manufacturers profited more than others, though. Fiat Chrysler managed 12.8 percent fewer sales in January compared year-on-year, but the company's vehicles sold for $1,300 more. The Ford brand suffered a 6.3-percent dip in sales, but brand transaction prices increased $2,000, while a Lincoln sold for $8,700 more on average. General Motors sold more cars and sold them for more money; overall GM transaction prices rose four percent, or $1,270, while a GMC traded hands for seven-percent more than in January 2017 and a Cadillac got $2,300 more on average. Of KBB's listed automakers, the Volkswagen Group got the most of out its customers, transaction prices rising at the German automaker by 5.6 percent to $42,243 in January 2018 compared to a year earlier. American Honda followed with a 4.3-percent increase to $28,991, GM in third at 4.1 percent to $40,313. Find your next car at Autoblog using our new and used car listings or the Car Finder tool. Broken out by segment, minivans rocked the table, transaction prices leaping by 7.9 percent to $35,380 compared to January a year earlier. Luxury cars boasted the next-highest rise, at 3.6 percent to $58,533.

J.D. Power: Vehicle dependability at all-time high, Lexus and Porsche lead

Wed, 13 Feb 2013

Each year, J.D. Power and Associates surveys original owners of three-year-old vehicles to find out what kinds of problems they have had experienced over the last 12 months, and then it uses this data to create its annual Vehicle Dependability Study. This means that the models in the 2013 study are 2010 model year vehicles, and J.D. Power rates each make as well as the top individual models based on how many problems were experienced per 100 vehicles (PP100).
Debunking the idea that carryover models are more dependable than new or updated models, the 2013 study found that the average carryover model experienced 133 PP100, while all-new or redesigned vehicles for the 2010 model year had 116 PP100; vehicles that received minor changes fared the best with just 111 PP100. The overall average for all makes was 126 PP100, which is the lowest figure since the findings were first issued in 1989.
